THE BIG QUESTION/STAR TRIBUNE: “MS. BROD GOES TO WASHINGTON”

By Michael Brodkorb | June 25, 2008

“State Rep. Laura Brod, R-New Prague, who in recent weeks has publicly spearheaded Republican attacks on Al Franken, is in Washington today to call upon Senate Democrats to join her in scolding Franken for his less-than-savory musings on virtual sex and rape.

At this hour, Brod is delivering a letter to Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC). She’s reminding Democrats that they recently criticized the McCain campaign for a fundraiser planned by Texas oilman Clayton Williams, who joked during his 1990 gubernatorial campaign against Ann Richards that rape is like the weather: to paraphrase, as long as it’s inevitable, why not enjoy it. McCain later canceled the fundraiser.

Asks Brod: Isn’t it just as appropriate to hold Franken accountable for trying out a rape joke during a brainstorming session with Saturday Night Live writers in 1995?” Source: Star Tribune, June 25, 2008

Do as Dumb-o-crats say, not as they do.

So, who really thinks that Chuck Schumer is going to give a second of thought to what a third-term republican legislator from Minnesota thinks about the satirical works of the DSCC’s candidate for senate?

And who paid for her trip? If the party paid, I bet a lot of donors would like to know that their money is being wasted on trips like this rather than on getting enough republicans to fill a phone booth elected this fall.

  3. What about 25A? Says:

    Hey Laura,

What about us here in 25A? What are you doing for us? We haven’t seen you in a long time. Perhaps you should campaign here for your race this November instead of campaigning for a statewide race that is still 2 years away.

    Sincerely,
    Your Constituent

    What about 25A,
Maybe you just have not been paying attention. I know the Brod campaign has been out at a number of parades (because I walked in one) and Brod herself has attended a number of town hall meetings and local individual meetings with Constituents like she usually does. Spending 3 hours in DC means she can’t campaign locally?? …. give me a break. Nice try.

Who paid for Laura Brod’s trip to DC?

If it was personal money, that’s fine. But if she used republican party funds, I imagine there will be a lot of upset donors who think this is a waste. And if she used campaign funds from 25A, I can’t wait to see how she reports this political contribution to Norm Coleman to the campaign finance people.

Perhaps Ms Washington should go to New Prague, Minnesota.

Perhaps Ms Washington should conduct a survey of the New Prague, Minnesota residents.

Is Ms Brod in competition with Federal Express? the United States Postal Service?

WILL MS BROD WRITE AND DELIVER A COUPLE OF LETTERS TO IRAQ NEXT?

  7. Jane Says:

    el presidente,
The fact that Laura Brod is one of a few Republicans who is not so cowering as to actually take the fight to the dems is too bad.
She’s not the only one however.

Why is it that she drives you liberals so crazy?

Northwaest flies in and out of DC about 12 times a day and it takes a couple of hours each way and costs a few hundred bucks. The national news media covered and is now showing how Franken’s problems are hurting Obama. If you can help Coleman and McCain like that for a few hundred bucks, I will write you a check. But then again you wouldn’t do that because you are Brod-obsessed Franken supporter.

I have to go to work, but when you get up up for the Price Is Right el Presidente, know that the story, despite your efforts, continues to be the choice you made in Rochester in backing Mr. Franken. Enjoy dancing with the one that brung ya.

” If you can help Coleman and McCain like that for a few hundred bucks,…”

YOU HAVE TO REPORT IT. Period. End of story.

Unless, of course, you’re a republiCon in the GreedOverPrinciples party, then ya just do it, because laws are what “other” people follow.

So, where did the dough come from, for this campaign stunt?

  9. Chestnut Says:
    June 26th, 2008 at 10:53 AM

“Why is it that she drives you liberals so crazy?”

If there’s anything liberals hate, it’s women and members of their victim classes that don’t toe the line.

  10. el presidente Says:
    June 26th, 2008 at 11:04 AM

    Jane,

Does a Republican bride and/or groom who walk down the aisle wonder if the groom will spend his future 27th Wedding Anniversary at the State DFL Convention? ["Enjoy dancing with the one who brung ya"?]

If you want to criticize liberals to to the Liberal Party. DFL stands for Democratic Farmer Labor Party.

Does Minnesota State Representative Laura Brod have political aspirations to go to Washington, D.
    C. and the letter is a way to spearhead that effort?

    aeroplane, not aeroplain

  12. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 26th, 2008 at 11:15 AM

    Who paid for the trip?

  13. DJZ Says:
    June 26th, 2008 at 1:05 PM

Who cares who paid? Instead of bitching about Republican campaign tactics (I tip my hat to them on this stunt- surprisingly clever), how about we just mimic it.

How about a group mothers and daughters go to DC to protest and demand a formal apology from GOP Senator Dave Vitter who frequented a well known hooker? His actions sustained a practice which turns our mothers and daughters into objects of abuse.

That’s just one for starters. C’mon Democrats. These Republicans have dropped the ball on everything while governing and have been unable to live up to the moral standards THEY set making hypocrites out of many of their supporters.

We are going to wipe the floor up with them- again, in the Fall. Until then, we need to let them continue to shoot themselves in the foot and turn on each other while we do what we do best- turn out voters.

That’s to you, ChumpNuts. Doing as Republicans do, would have most of us in jail.

I care who paid for the trip.
    Who paid for the trip?
