PROFESSOR ON NEW POLL: FRANKEN “HASN’T REALLY CLOSED THE DEAL WITH A LOT OF SELF-DESCRIBED DEMOCRATS”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 26, 2008

“Hamline University political science professor Joe Peschek said Franken can’t afford to see his party base eroded that much and also trail substantially among independents.

‘Even though Franken won the DFL endorsement on the first ballot at the DFL convention, he hasn’t really closed the deal with a lot of self-described Democrats,’ Peschek said.” Source: Associated Press, June 26, 2008

i know peschek and even though he is quite liberal, he is, in my opinion, a very astute and honest political analyst. obviously the new revelation of more tax issues along with the prior tax/workers comp/anti-feminism issues should be taking a toll on franken’s popularity.

coleman must be pinching himself–and probably working behind the scenes to make sure franken wins the primary–that this is probably about the only dfl-er he could beat.

I completely agree. I’m a little surprised the NRSC released more damaging information on Franken, they must not have thought it through. Coleman cannot afford to have a Ciresi enter the race and force Franken out. If Franken wins the primary, Coleman mind as well have his victory party.

I have many Republican friends and many Dem friends. The Republicans hate Franken but aren’t very happy about Coleman. Most of the Dems I know can’t stand Franken and believe they will lose in November.

One thing is for sure, Franken hasn’t closed the deal with anyone I know.

    “..new revelation…”

What new “revelation” is that? So far, there’s only the rrpubliCons throwin’ crap against a wall, which is called an “allegation.”

And last time I checked, a coupla days ago, republiCons were indignant about allegations, especially as how they pertained to She Whom Scrubbed Her WebSite Of All References To Her Senatorial Hubby.

Oh, wait – Laurie scrubbing her website isn’t an “allegation”; it’s a fact.

It’s the GreenScreen allegation Michael was so indignant about.

Will Michael apologize if the new allegations fizzles – like the April 30th allegations did, as he demanded of “lefty bloggers”?

But he has apparently closed the deal with a couple of screeching, unhinged, liberal zipperheads…

Well, yes, the people to endorsed him.

I love how the republicans are trashing their own credibility in a desperate effort to get anyone BUT Franken as their November opponent.

Parties don’t fight this hard and dirty this early unless they are petrified.

Seems to me, this proves how wet Norm’s pants have become at the prospect of facing Al in November.

  7. Patrick Black Says:
    June 26th, 2008 at 6:27 PM

Leroy, don’t flatter yourself. The Republicans have been very smart in their attacks of Franken. They know he’s an easy target. I hope they go too far and push DFLers to Ciresi.

Perhaps some REPUBLICANS will have a “WRITE IN” campaign for MIKE CIRESI.

All GOP’ers have to do is partner-up with a DFL friend and both agree to WRITE THE NAME OF “MIKE CIRESI.”

IN THAT WAY THEY WILL KEEP THE BALANCE THE SAME.

FRIENDS TRUST EACH OTHER TO “DO THE RIGHT THING.”

[An ACTUAL book out on the market.]

  9. Southern Minny Moderate Says:

Realistically, Republicans aren’t nervous about Franken, but they are going to send a lot of energy his way because, in a cycle when everything is going against them, the Al Franken candidacy has to feel like a birthday/Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza/Ramadan/Festivus present all wrapped in one.

Franken has the name recognition, money, and track record to be credible, but has volumes and volumes of his own stupid words (satire or not) to be used against him. All of this will propel Norm even further when Republicans lose everything else this November.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it here again, after November’s election, Minnesota Democrats will have created 2 Minnesota Republicans who will have legitimate reason to believe they should be top-tier national level players.

  10. TommyJohnson Says:
    June 28th, 2008 at 8:27 PM

If Norm and Tim are “top-tier nationlal level players”, then the GOP’s cupboard is mighty bare.
