MDE FROM THE ARCHIVES: SCHUMER’S DC DIGS

By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 30, 2008

Unlike Senator Coleman, who is renting a small bedroom for $600 per month, DSCC Chairman Senator Chuck Schumer is renting an entire house, with a full-kitchen for only $150 more per month.  This story from the New York Times has pictures and the living room and kitchen look pretty nice for only $750 a month.

Gee – does Schumer forget to pay his rent on time? Does Schumer’s landlord forget to cash his checks? Does Schumer’s landlord forget Schumer forgot to pay his rent? Does Schumer pay his rent in FURNITURE? Did Schumer hire his landlord’s wife to Schumer’s Senatorial office?

Michael, ol’ Smokescreen has BIG TIME problems with this, and your desperate spinning only makes that more obvious.

Schumer’s such a schmuck. A corrupt schmuck, at that.

LOL… whenever Tommy says Coleman has “big time problems” you can relax. That’s just confirmation that there’s nothing to the story, except what the voices in his head are feverishly debating.

Michael, knowing that his avid followers will read only the headline and not bother clicking the link to the story itself, is happy to leave out the fact that Schumer lives with 3 others in the house, one of them being the owner, the other 2 each paying $750 in rent as well. Schumer sleeps with another person in the living room of the 2-bedroom house, with one bedroom being used by the owner and the other by another tenant.

First off, the New York Times were the ones who did this story. And second, where is the desperate spinning by Michael in this posting copied up above? You can’t even answer that because there wasn’t any spinning. Tommy, first you imply Norm Coleman’s a democrat which takes out the charge he is a “rubber stamp” for President Bush and now this? I ask again where’s the spin. If any one can enlighten me on where the spin is in this post I would be much obliged.

  6. ofcourse Says:

    @J.P.
The spin is the lie about him renting the entire house. Because he doesn’t rent the entire house. Does that clear things up?

  7. Barbarak Says:
    July 1st, 2008 at 8:52 AM

Schumer isn’t renting the house by himself. He and two other members of Congress are sharing the rent for the house, and living with, Representative George Miller (the owner of the house). Shumer hasn’t paid Miller over a million dollars to help him run his campaigns. Schumer hasn’t hired Miller’s wife (under her Maiden name), Schumer hasn’t put in any earmarks specifically financially benefitting Miller’s business, and there are no reports of Schumer “forgetting” to pay his rent to Miller. So I guess in your eyes these situations are somewhat similar? Really?? I just don’t see it.

That whole story is really weird and borderline homo-erotic. What are four grown men living together for? They’re not cousins like Belky and Larry or anything. Plus, what are they doing with all that cocoa butter?

Okay, I just finished the article and find disturbing Mr. Durbin’s killing of the New York Sewer rats with his bare hands. This shows a scary lack of judgment and problem solving ability. Also who does Schumer sleep with at night? The article says rare is it that women stop over to there bachelor’s pad, so is it a man he sleeps with are a women. It sounds as the article was leaving out the name and sex of the sleepee. Why?

Also, if anyone takes this article on its face value then I feel for ya, since this is obviously a puff, puff piece using the concept of using the inverted ego symbolisim. These politcians wanted a puff peice showing how they live like everyday folks. One phone call to the Times was all they needed. This article belongs in some house keeping magazine.

Would anyone here like to comment about people that don’t live in a property, rent their property out, AND claim a “Homestead” property tax exemption to lower their tax bill?

How ’bout it, Chestnut – care to opine?

Marcus, I did some research and have come up with a plausible theory on why there is so much cocoa butter horded away upstairs in their house. I think these men use cocoa butter for mosturizing and healing from stretch marks. Stretch marks caused when they have too many dinners too many days in a row with Ted Kennedy.

Well, well, well. Looks like ol’ Smokescreen might have to do some ‘splainin’ before the Senate Ethics Committee:

Group calls for investigation into Sen. Coleman’s ethics
    By Rachel E. Stassen-Berger

Article Last Updated: 07/01/2008 11:13:06 AM CDT

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington is asking the U.S. Senate to investigate Republican Senator Norm Coleman because of his rental agreement with a campaign consultant and political operative.

The D.C.based organization wants to know if Coleman “violated the Senate gifts rule by accepting lodging from Republican operative Jeff Larson.” (PiPress)

  15. Leroy Jenkins Says:

    So, bottom line:

Chuck Schumer rents a house with two other members, paying rent to a fourth member, who owns the house. He is paying MORE than Norm Coleman for his 1/4 of the house.

Norm Coleman is renting a place described in a real estate sell sheet as: “Downstairs, a huge English basement with a media center, office space, gorgeous custom marble and oak bar plus an airy guest bedroom and bath.” for $600 from a lobbyist who also happens to have ties to the oppressive Myanmar government.

Does anyone else see why it is that democrats may think there is something afoul with this arrangement?

  16. Chestnut Says:
    July 1st, 2008 at 11:46 AM

    Hey look,
Tommy is posting as Leroy again!

… I’ll just repeat: If Tommy is convinced, that’s all the evidence I need to know that there’s no “there there.”

    LOL.

Okay, we have a problem here. Looks like everyone didn’t stick to the same story. First the article states that Durbin stays in the second bedroom upstairs and the owner, the big bedroom.

Then the article states that Schumer has a bed in the living room downstairs living-room which he shares with Delahunt. Finally at the end, the article states that Durbin and Schumer are roommates.

Does any one smell a rat?

I think their whole roommate house sharing story was exaggerated and some parts fabricated to sound interesting or funny. They couldn’t even get their rooms straight. Only the house rats know the truth.

The excerpts show that they messed up their story, below.

Mr. Schumer joined them in 1982, and Mr. Durbin moved in a decade later on condition that he get one of the two bedrooms upstairs.

Mr. Delahunt, a six-term congressman, is the least prominent of the four but perhaps the funniest. More to the point, he is the only one willing to sleep in the living room with a close-up view of Mr. Schumer slumbering a few feet away in his boxers.

“I once had to pick up a mouse by the tail that Durbin refused to pick up,” complained Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, referring to his roommate Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois.

Barbarak, in comment #7 you made a big deal about Jeff Larson’s wife being hired under her maiden name. I’ve got her business card from her job running Coleman’s constituent services, and it says “Dorene K. Larson”.
