MN GOP SCORES DIRECT HIT ON FRANKEN FRONT GROUPâ€
By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 1, 2008
“Coleman campaign spokesman Luke Friedrich replied that Coleman is paying fair market value ‘for a cramped basement bedroom.’
He also questioned Sloan’s independence, noting she often appeared as a guest on Franken’s Air America radio show.
‘The only surprise is that it took Al Franken’s surrogate this long to file a politically motivated attack against Senator Coleman,’ Friedrich said, calling her ‘a reliable attack dog for the Democrat Party.’
And the Minnesota Republican Party pointed out that one of CREW’s board members, John Luongo, had contributed $2,000 to Franken, while another board member, Daniel Berger, donated $44,500 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. The GOP also noted that Sloan had worked as counsel for the House Judiciary Committee’s crime subcommittee when it was chaired by then-Rep. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who now chairs the DSCC.
‘In the interest of full disclosure, CREW must acknowledge its close relationship to Al Franken, and explain how they can claim to be an independent group with its long history with Democrats and specifically Al Franken and Charles Schumer,’ said Minnesota GOP Chairman Ron Carey.” Source: Associated Press, July 1, 2008

Nice work. Republicans got into the second news cycle after getting caught flat footed on Norm Coleman’s unethical living arrangements.
With all the press releases Ron Carey issues each hour, you would think he would have been quicker at responding to this. But I guess finding the non-related stuff on a Senator from New York took some time.
And when did Norm switch spokespeople? Did he have to fire former spokeswoman Erin Rath after forcing her to lie about the Laurie Coleman ad?
July 1st, 2008 at 7:22 pm
I agree. It’s impressive that the Coleman camp was able to respond so quickly and so powerfully.
CREW is a bullshit organization. They have a couple token Democrats — the crooks that even the DNC won’t protect — but their a hard-left, socialist front group whose soul mission is to harass those who disagree with their anti-American agenda.

Speaking of “flatfooted”, Leroy, you stupid s.o.b., I think the world is still waiting for the dip shits at the Franken camp to give a legitimate response to his NY Workers Comp, tax cheating, and his polices designed to fuck over every American not living in Hollywood or the Hamptons.
You’re a dumb, worthless wad, Leroy.

Chestnut, your contributions to this site are so inspired and full of hope for the future of the republican party, I treasure each and every one of your compliments.

It’s an apt description for the filth at CREW, actually.

““Coleman campaign spokesman Luke Friedrich replied that Coleman is paying fair market value ‘for a cramped basement bedroom.’
So, when is Team Coleman going to release the Appraisal and/or Competitive Market Analysis to substantiate this claim?
Or, more likely, when are they going to admit they’re just makin’ that “fair market value” crap, up?
The fact is, republiCon Ron has been angry at C.R.E.W. ever since C.R.E.W. filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission over republiCon Ron’s shoddy paperwork.
For those that want to see the official C.R.E.W. complaint, that to this day remains a Matter Under Review, link here.
It’s really rather pathetic, watching republiCon Ron pretend that anyone is taking him seriously.
republiCon Ron has the worst record of any state political party for filing paperwork, and he’s gonna claim “they’re pickin’ on me.”
Pathetic.

coleman should keep this story going because most minnesotans think $600 a month for rent of a room is not fmv, but way above fmv.
throw in that he has downsized his living arrangements to help his son in college and i think this plays pretty well to all those but the far lefties.
July 1st, 2008 at 8:59 pm
yeah ansel and throw in he is renting it from a lobbyist, that is gold for Coleman.

Yoni, did you see the AP wire story, after republiCon Ron’s Press Farce, er, ’scuse me, “release”?
Here’s a snippet:
“In the interest of full disclosure, CREW must acknowledge its close relationship to Al Franken, and explain how they can claim to be an independent group with its long history with Democrats and specifically Al Franken and Charles Schumer,” said Minnesota GOP Chairman Ron Carey.
CREW spokeswoman Naomi Seligman responded that prior to this complaint, the group had filed complaints against three other senators this year, all Democrats.
“The Republican committees use our work when we target Democrats all the time,” she said. “It’s only when we target Republicans that they turn around and try to discredit us.”

Kinda like how republiCon Ron tried to discredit Col. Joe Repya.
It’s an act that’s getting stale, but boolickers still like it.
July 1st, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Ron Carey has zero credibility, I am sure on the national scene people see Ron Carey’s daily press conferences about jack shit and see what a joke the MN GOP is with him at the helm.

It’s gonna be a long summer for the GOPers. Norm’s unethical crashpad; his landlord lookin’ like a tax cheat – and hey, how’s that gonna go over? A Tax-Cheat as a BigShot for the RNC Convention next month?
Then ya got republiCon Ron’s FEC problems still simmerin’, plus The Ghost of Jack Abramoff reachin’ out to Norm!
Gonna be a long summer, for GOPers….

Sound the alarm–Norm’s pants are on fire!
July 2nd, 2008 at 2:53 am
Norm has downsized to help his son in college?
His SON must NOT have taken advantage of any US MILITARY Education Plan.
July 2nd, 2008 at 7:27 am
Yeah, why isn’t Norm’s son helping spread democracy in Iraq? We have a serious troop shortage and nobody in the Coleman household has served? With the new GI Bill that Republicons fought, he’ll get his schooling paid for when he returns.
July 2nd, 2008 at 7:41 am
Its not the kids of liberals who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, those kids are blogging with KOS and Politico. That is what they learned to do in Berkley and NYU. Big contribution to democracy, real sacrifice on their parts. I bet they are all broken up since 600 Starbucks are closing. How can they dream up more lies when their caffeine stash is in danger of drying up?
July 2nd, 2008 at 7:46 am
You mean this kind of kid?

Tommy
you’re still a non factor.

Our US Soldiers and Maries are fighting for the rights of everyone to speak or protest in any lawful way they deem effective. Did Norm break any laws or is long hair offensive to you?

That’s would be Marines

CREW isn’t a Franken frontgroup. The only reason she was on Franken’s radio show was because Franken was interested in exposing the ethical problems of those in Congress. Since this was happening during the Abramoff scandal, and Abramoff only personally gave money to Republicans, much of the discussion was of the Republicans. Many of those discussed on the show have left congress, some now reside in prison. If you check the CREW website, you will find several recent complaints about Democrats. It is a fact that each year CREW lists the most corrupt members of Congress, and although Republicans have dominated the lists, there have been Democrats on the lists each year.
July 2nd, 2008 at 1:24 pm
John can you name those Democrats?

I checked out CREW’s web site. It was interesting, and they do seem to report on their site Democrats with ethical problems that have already been revealed.
However, they seem to investigate and even pursue legal measures when Republicans are involved. They fixate on Republicans, and it is pretty obvious. They have a “tandem” site that makes their predispositions and intentions clear:
http://www.beyonddelay.org/
The name of the site even suggests an anti-Republican slant. Unless, you know, you really, really don’t want to see it.
