IS TEAM FRANKEN KEEPING FRANKEN’S LATEST TAX PROBLEMS UNDER WRAPS UNTIL FILING DEADLINE CLOSES?
By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 7, 2008
When Team Franken admitted they failed to pay taxes in a total of 18 states and not the original 17 states they admitted to failing to pay taxes in, one could almost hear Minnesota DFLers holding their breath for the next shoe to drop.
According to multiple sources, key Democrats are wondering if Team Franken is attempting to hold the additional shoes from dropping until after the July 15th filing deadline closes to avoid giving potential opponents another reason to enter the race.
It’s clear that Franken’s folks are trying to deflect attention from their tax problems. Perhaps as many as 11 additional states exist where Franken did not report income and/or pay taxes. Their weak defense that “some” of the reported activities Franken was involved in were not paid, didn’t answer the claim that many of the others events cited in the NRSC press release were potentailly paid activities.
Remember Team Franken’s checkered history on these scandals.
When the workers compensation scandal broke, Team Franken denied the charges and attempted to avoid talking about it. Finally, they admitted that not only did they fail to pay workers compensation premiums for three years, but they also failed to respond to a court ordered fine of $25,000.
When it became known that Franken’s corparation in California was in forfeit, Team Franken denied they even did business in the state. Then, after stalling, they finally admitted that not only were they in forfeit, but they also had failed to pay taxes in California for five years.
After Republicans stated that Franken potentially owed back-taxes in additional states for speeches and appearances, Team Franken disclosed that Franken owed back-taxes in 17 states (now 18) for five years.
Given Team Franken’s pattern of denial and distraction, it’s pretty obvious we ought to be hearing soon from them about whether they owe even more taxes in other states. If Franken doesn owe additional taxes, the only real question is whether they plan to make that announcement before or after filings close on July 15th.

So, when even the republicans have to dance around the truth by accusing him of “potentially” getting paid in other states, you know you are on pretty thin ice with your case. Michael is usually more careful to back his statements with some form of provable fact. The fact that he can’t do so in this case is testament to the desperation that is taking root in the Coleman camp.
Face it, Republicans. No one with any credibility is going to challenge Franken in the primary, and then, no one of any substance is going to challenge him in the general.
Bottom line, Amy Klobuchar is about to become the senior Senator from Minnesota.

Looks like the Angry Al team pays their bloggers in drugs. Clearly Leroy’s been over-indulging.

Hey Leroy, Al is in trouble just face the facts. Spin it any way you want but his appearance in a Iron Range small town 4th of July parade can tell much, however small it may seem and he was not very well received. The Demoroncratic strong hold of the Iron Range gave him a cool reception, many ignored or refused to take the campaign sticker to wear.I grew up there and was raised a Democrat and have witnessed all the blind worship of any Democrat local, county or state candidates who walk in that parade and Al wasn’t even close to getting the idol worship generally given out. Some guy even shouted at him “did you pay your taxes yet?” Even if 10% of Iron Range democrats don’t vote for him, he is in trouble. Not everyone on the Range is a miner! I am an Iron Ranger and Al is a carpetbagger by my standards. Good luck Leroy even you can’t keep the Franken ship from sinking no matter what you write here or elsewhere.

Just another example of Al Franken putting himself ahead of the DFL and Minnesota.

“No one with any credibility is going to challenge Franken in the primary, and then, no one of any substance is going to challenge him in the general.”
I believe this is true.
Why would anyone with credibility and substance want to be forever remembered as the one that took the baton from Al Franken?
Franken is going to ride this Democrat endorsement into the mud all by himself…every Democrat with a dream will have dived for cover by then.

Michael -
If Franken drops out, it would be the worst thing possible for our party. (Republicans)
Please wait until after the filing deadline.

Swiftee: “…and then no one with any substance is going to challenge him in the general.”
“I believe this to be true.”

Hey, Leroy…why don’t you go run into the rookery and wake up all those dragons.
Yes, I know about Leeroy Jenkins. I played World of Warcraft at one time, before I got involved in executing Democrats with my shovel.

Sakaki-
Why don’t you go back to the Mark Ritchie post and find me where in state law it requires the SOS to have a website listing all candidate filings.
Yes, I know about bold faced lies. I read your side’s posts all day long before dispatching them with the antiseptic that is the truth.

Sakaki,
ummmm, please don’t reference World of Warcraft if you want to have any legitimacy at all in a political blog (even if it is one as classless as MDE)

Hey Yoni, please give that advice to Leroy Jenkins while you are at it.

Sakaki. The name has such a nice ring to it doesn’t it? Kind of self-descriptive.
