COLEMAN FOR U.S. SENATE RELEASE NEW TV AD

By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 14, 2008

During the I was playing with my new iPhone, Senator Norm Coleman’s campaign announced that a new TV ad would start this past weekend.  I was sent this release last Friday.

###

SAINT PAUL – Highlighting Norm Coleman’s ability to deliver for Minnesotans, the Coleman for Senate campaign today released their fourth TV ad of the election cycle. Titled “One Thing,” the ad features a man in a bowling alley discussing Norm’s many accomplishments as Senator, like making college more affordable, increasing our energy independence and exposing billions of dollars of wasteful government spending. As he lists many of Norm’s accomplishments, his bowling buddies remind their friend that Norm brought hockey back to Minnesota.

“This new ad focuses on Norm’s ability to get things done as Minnesota’s Mayor in Washington,” said Cullen Sheehan, campaign manager. “While many Minnesotans appreciate Norm’s leadership in bringing hockey back, as Senator, they also appreciate his leadership on increasing college Pell Grants, finding energy independence through increased exploration, wind and renewable fuel use, and exposing billions of dollars of wasteful government spending.”

The ad, which can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_hvPbW0jsw, will begin airing on TV stations statewide over the weekend.

“One Thing” Script:

Man: “If there’s one thing about Norm Coleman, he gets things done.”

Man off screen: “Hey, he brought hockey back.”

Man: “He increased college Pell Grants.”

Crowd off screen: “He brought hockey back.”

Man: “He’s helping us get energy independent with exploration, wind and renewables.”

Crowd off screen: “He brought hockey back.”

Man: “And his investigations saved us billions.”

Crowd off screen: “And he brought hockey back.”

Coleman: “I’m Norm Coleman and I approve this message.”

Man: “And he brought hockey back.”

At least he’s trying to talk about issues.. but, why no citations to any of his accomplishments? Usually an ad will at least make an effort to cite the record.

What it’s not, however, is funny. I don’t get the strategy to try and out-funny Franken.

PD, Coleman’s not trying to “out-funny” Franken. I mean, he hasn’t uttered a single word about drugging and raping somebody.

Can the Coleman campaign make a good ad? Their efforts so far have been very poor.

Who writes this copy? It’s awful.

I thought it was good for a political ad. Someone should make a parody ad like the “blue screen with face ad that tells what Franken has done for Minnesota. In the background someone can keep saying “He brought us liberal talk radio” or “He brought us Air America”.

    I liked it!

    It’s weak.

Energy independence?? He voted against ANWAR. Wind and renewables? Must mean ethanol. Wind is an unreliable supplemental energy at best and ethanol is the biggest joke ever played on the American people. Hell, the world!

Brought hockey back? Big deal! Public money spent on professional sports. Yeehaw.

Focus on how he SAVED us money, shrunk government and kicked the UN in the ass. If he can communicate that then he has a powerful add.

I think it was a good ad.

The reason some won’t see it that way is becasue they already know they are not going to vote for him.

It doesn’t matter what the ad says or how it’s made, they just won’t like it.

While I might think Franken’s ads a boring and lame, I bet you guys love’em.

This was a piss poor ad, and that is coming from a liberal who liked the Laurie Coleman ad. It was actually painful for me to watch.

Hype Jesus you are a hypocrite, you’ll love ever Coleman ad and hate every Franken ad. How can you try to differentiate yourself from the people you are criticizing in your post.

You are indeed a toolbox, and a poorly engineered one at that. I think you brought stupid back.

To quote Syndrome from The Incredibles, “Lame, lame, lame, lame, lame!!”

Where are his citations to his “astounding” claims

Forget the pathetic schtick and talk about: how he cut taxes, fought against needless gov’t regulation and nanny-statism, and what he has done to effectively deal with illegal immigration.

The sad truth is that he has not done much about any of these aforementioned issues in any kind of a conservative way.

I could care less about hockey. What does that do for me! Subsidizing a bunch of men to play a game. You have to pander with peoples “entertainment” to get their votes. Sad!

Just imagine if the Democrats had a somewhat decent candidate to run against him. Boy did they blow this opportunity!

After wasting 30 seconds of my life on this, I will just have to squeeze my nose that much harder when casting my vote for him.

    Good Grief!!

    Yoni,

When exactly did I say I “loved” the ad?

I can appreciate an ad even if I don’t agree with it.

The ad was funny, not Superbad funny, but good for a political ad.

Every Franken ad I’ve seen has been boring and lame. It is just Franken talking.

And keep personal attacks to yourself. If you can’t make your agruement without them, than you already lost.

I made my argument assmonkey, you will think every Coleman ad is good and every Franken ad is bad. Maybe you should keep your blog posts to yourself….
