DRAFT CIRESI BLOG SHUTS DOWN; BLOGGERS PREDICT “AT LEAST” 10-POINT VICTORY FOR COLEMAN OVER FRANKEN

By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 16, 2008

Since Mike Ciresi did not file to run against Al Franken in the DFL primary, the bloggers behind Draft Ciresi! have closed the blog down. In their post labled “Final Thoughts from Draft Ciresi!“, they predict that Senator Coleman will defeat Franken by “at least” ten points.

The assessment of Michael and others that Al has not yet secured his DFL base is not wrong. In choosing Franken, I think the Democrats chose the only candidate in their field with a reasonable chance of losing to Norm Coleman. That said, Al got through primary filing day yesterday without the emergence of any serious opposition, a big step for him. Al has a lot of work to do, but he is an extraordinarily hard campaigner in the Paul Wellstone mode and he now has three and half months to shore up his base and refocus his communication skills and energy on Norm Coleman, a candidate with severe liabilities of his own.

Al has a long way to go, but this morning, I think the trend is in his favor.

Of course the Draft Ciresi bloggers predict a Coleman victory.

The site was undoubtedly created by republicans who fear the prospect of facing Al Franken. They know Al will do the work necessary to win, which was something Mike never seemed to grasp.

So, nice effort, republicans. So sorry Al Franken will be headed to the general election unopposed.

I don’t think so, Leroy. If you read the whole thing, which would be the first time you gave anything a fair shake, it would be clear they’re Democrats. But Brodkorb only selects the parts that he likes so that he can misrepresent everything to support his cause.

    Patrick-

Perhaps you can tell me then, if the site was run by democrats, why it is that as anonymous democratic bloggers, they chose only to talk to Michael?

Seems to me if I were a democrat launching the site, I would have reached out to Publius or one of the other democratic blogs to announce my existence. But the bloggers in charge of that site spoke exclusively to Michael, and were summarily ignored by any democratic blogger who managed to look at the site for more than two minutes.

I guess that is why I think it was an attempt by republicans to create the illusion of dissent within the party. An effort that failed mightily, I may add.

I have never heard that, Leroy. How do you know they spoke to MDE exclusively. I recall “go to hell” was the only thing they said to Republicans.

Maybe Michael can clear this up. But I don’t think they ever extended any favors to Brodkorb. I also recall you predicting that draft ciresi would continue after Ciresi didn’t get back in– thus far, it looks like they will not be attacking Franken any more.

Why don’t you just cool your jets, Leroy. There is dissent in the DFL, I am an example of exactly that. A proud Dem who doesn’t think Franken is up to the task, sorry. You may now attack me with your partisan rage.

Yeah, right, as if we’re going to believe the predictions of some losers in their momma’s basement somewhere who actually thought Ciresi was going to get back in? But when you’re in league with those losers, like MDE, of course you’re going to trumpet their bold predictions.

  7. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    July 16th, 2008 at 11:09 AM

I do not recall ever saying the site would remain active after yesterday. I have always held that it was created by friends and associates of Michael in an effort to sell the message of DFL distention.

And as for the statements, Michael seemed to be the only one who ever communicated with the bloggers. And their response telling him to go to hell and never write again seemed far too convenient of a way for him to avoid having to pretend to tug on the big curtain to see who it concealed. For a site all about exposing democrats, he was far too willing to allow that site to exist without trying to out the authors for me to say something didn’t smell fishy.

I agree there is dissent within the party. But I also know that this is the year Norm Coleman needs to lose, and the only way that doesn’t happen, is if we decide to allow him to stay in office.

I haven’t been fond of all of Franken’s writings, but I will go back to the point. Who is more dangerous to the people of Minnesota? The guy who writes Porn-O-Rama for an adult magazine read by hundreds of consenting adults, or the candidate who allows his minions to distribute it to the masses?

“Who is more dangerous to the people of Minnesota? The guy who writes Porn-O-Rama for an adult magazine read by hundreds of consenting adults, or the candidate who allows his minions to distribute it to the masses?”

Ah yes, the “It’s your fault for pointing out what a jerk I am” defense.

  9. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    July 16th, 2008 at 12:50 PM

No, it is your fault for taking something that was created and intended for a mature audience, and releasing it to the masses, all the while pretending to be horrified by its contents.

Perhaps the MN GOP should run a DRAFT NORM COLEMAN [into the US ARMY] BLOG.

  11. The Audacity of HYPE Says:
    July 16th, 2008 at 1:55 PM

Sources say that el p masturbates to Animal Planet.

The cool thing is I don’t have to prove it. El P had to prove he doesn’t.

  12. US Army Vet Says:
    July 16th, 2008 at 1:58 PM

So el presidente is in favor of the “Draft” for the US Army?
I don’t think you’ll get much support, unless you are willing to sign up first. How about it chicken shit, are you ready to defend your country or are you just typing to puff up your ego?

  13. Patrick Black Says:
    July 16th, 2008 at 2:54 PM

How about we draft Leroy into the army, actually he said “I agree there is dissent within the party.” and “I haven’t been fond of all of Franken’s writings.” THere is a sliver of hope that he may be open to other ideas.

  14. Leroy Jenkins Says:

I will join the military the second Jenna Bush and Mary Cheney do.

  15. ansel Says:
    July 16th, 2008 at 3:28 PM

easy to agree to join the military when you cite mary cheney as a condition since she is gay and does not qualify. maybe you could use john mccain’s children as a condition instead?

  16. Patrick Black Says:
    July 16th, 2008 at 5:38 PM

John McCain’s son in serving in Iraq. It id understandable that McCain has not publicized that fact. Do not criticize McCain’s intentions, he is very invested, whether you agree or disagree with his policy.
