DISGUSTING AND OBNOXIOUS: TEAM FRANKEN SPOKESMAN SAYS CAMPAIGN ENTERING “HAND-TO-HAND, DAY-TO-DAY COMBAT” PHASE
By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 18, 2008
What a disgusting and obnoxious comment from Team Franken’s spokesman “Scooter” Barr:
“‘We’re entering the phase of the campaign where it’s hand-to-hand, day-to-day combat,’ said Franken spokesman Andy Barr.” Source: Star Tribune, July 18, 2008
Click here for the complete story.
Barr isn’t quoted talking about the phase of the campaign where Franken unveils a positive vision for Minnesota. Instead, Barr proudly boasts about being in the “hand-to-hand, day-to-day combat” phase of the campaign. Barr should be embarrassed.

i know franken has said he will ignore lord farris, but let’s face it he is going to get a good going over from the extreme left before norm even starts focusing on him.
maybe franken has been listening to obama too much and will just try to ignore having to actually face his opponent for debates, townhall meetings, etc. based on his performances on radio before failing, i think norm will smack him good if franken agrees to debate him.
for those of us that remember boschwitz/wellstone race, rudy took wellstone too lightly and got creamed. i don’t think norm will make that mistake.

~Day-to-Day Combat
~Day-by-Day Combat
~Sounds somewhat similar to when Bill O’Reilly talked about when HE was in Combat in Central America.
[Bill was a camera person but, was never in the US Military.]

lamest post yet Michael
July 19th, 2008 at 9:13 AM
Michael, I’m not surprised you chickenhawks are afraid to fight.
This is hand-to-hand; pointing out the hypocrisy and dishonesty of the GreedOverPrinciples party is a constant battle.
But we’ll prevail, because truth is on our side.
You guys got “truthiness”, and that’s why your party is destined for Permanent Minority Status. Well, at least until you get rid of the hypocrites running your party, such as republiCon Ron.
November 5th will render Gov. Pawlenty meaningless, as the DFL will have veto-proof majorities in the senate and the house, and January 20th, 2009 will be The End Of An Error.
You will never see the GOP controlling all levers of power again, in your lifetime. And that’s for the old-fashioned reason: the GOP has broken everything it’s touched, and the majority of the electorate no longer trusts anything a GOPer says.

You won’t fight in Afghanistan
You won’t fight in Iraq
You won-’t fight Terrorists wherever they are found (you will prosecute them, ha!)
Yet you will fight Norm Coleman and the American Taxpayers in order to steal more of their money so that you, in your wisdom, can redistribute it to those “more deserving” than my own children.
July 19th, 2008 at 9:53 AM
You’re funny Tommy. Dumb as a bag of shit. But funny.
July 19th, 2008 at 10:33 AM
But we’ll prevail, because truth is on our side.
Spewed orange juice on my laptop laughing at that one. Like Chestnut says, funny guy.
July 19th, 2008 at 11:23 AM
Ya know what I think is funny? Is the “Party of Family Values” (i.e., the GreedOverPrinciples party) hiring Jeff Gannon to “cover” the White House.
When Boy Blunder talked about having a “mandate”, he might have been referring to Gannon.
Boy Blunder is now officially a Lame Duck – and after the November elections, the GOP wil be in Permanent Minority Status.

Flounder,
Get a life.
July 19th, 2008 at 11:37 AM
Rash Disptick, get a party. “Right” now, yours is a joke.
Oh – they’re losers, too. But don’t worry; you guys do a much better job of bitching, than governing.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:31 PM
Ya know what I think is funny?
I stopped reading at the end of that sentence since I didn’t care.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:54 PM
If they’re in hand-to-hand combat, then they won’t mind me stopping by the campaign office to punch someone in the mouth.
July 19th, 2008 at 2:16 PM
As always, you missed part of the quote: “”We’ll be engaging Coleman on these issues every day…”
That’s whats campaigning is about (as you well know, you specialize in combat campaign tactics).
July 19th, 2008 at 2:20 PM
By the way, Ron Carey also says thats what campaigning is about. Last election cycle at the republican convention he said:
“GOP Chairman Ron Carey sought to energize the 1,292 delegates at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Saturday by saying their grassroots efforts this summer and fall could determine who controls not only the Legislature but also Congress.
‘Minnesota’s probably going to be the Ohio of 2006,’ Carey said, referring to the state that put Bush over the top in 2004. ‘This is the blocking and tackling in the trenches that is critical to making sure, in a close election, that we’re the ones with 51 percent.’”
“Republicans gear up for big ’06 election as convention ends” Associated Press. 6/3/06.
July 19th, 2008 at 3:09 PM
Are you kidding me?
That’s “DISGUSTING AND OBNOXIOUS?” Saying the campaign is in hand-to-hand combat, that they are going to fight for the election? Why is that disgusting or obnoxious?
Is the only reason because the rhetorical device reminds you too much of the real blood spilled as a result of Republican foreign policy?
July 19th, 2008 at 3:58 PM
Hey Flounder,
When even my inlaws who are rabid Democrat farmers are telling me there is no way they would vote for Franken, you know he’s in trouble.
I think their vote for Coleman will be one of the first Republicans they have ever voted for. It will be funny in November after Franken loses to see what new name you will be posting under.
You should really start using “Flounder”, you couldn’t find a more appropriate name for yourself.
July 19th, 2008 at 4:10 PM
Hey, Rash Disptick, when some RabidRightWingNuts here on the Prairie tell me they could never vote for a RINO like Norm, I know ol’ Smokescreen is in trouble.
But if they vote for Franken, Al won’t be the first Democrat they’ve voted for; they voted for ol’ Smokescreen in 2002.
So here’s the best part – no matter who wins the election between ol’ Smokescreen and Franken; a Democrat gets sworn in next January.
July 19th, 2008 at 5:23 PM
Don’t talk about Ron Carey.
Ron Carey has class.
Carey’s message was that since Minnesota hosts the Republican convention in 2008 that Minnesota’s 10 electoral votes would be more in play than previous presidential elections. He used the mainstream metaphor of battle to describe the battle of ideas (the democratic process.) The difference between Carey’s talk and that of Franken Team’s spokesman, Andy Barr’s, who just announced to the world Team Franken’s intention of firing a blistering array of negative, cheap guerrilla warfare type assaults, is that Franken’s campaign isn’t about a positive gathering of party support during the 2006 Republican state convention, as Carey’s message was.
Reading comprehension is important folks.
Jennifer Duffy, a senior analyst for the nonpartisan Cook Political Report explained what Team Franken’s campaign meant by ‘hand to hand, day to day combat.’ She said,
‘that the Franken crew is a familiar one to Washington habitués and that the addition of Schultz signals a new determination to engage in the “rapid response” that the Clintons made a fixture of campaigns.’
People, this is a conspicuous and desperate attempt by Team Franken to garner lost support. The only way I guess Team Franken thinks they can do this is by hiring a team of Washington D.C. spin-masters to make up and send tactical misleading and false messages to Minnesota voters.
The Republican convention (just like the Democrat’s) is for the party itself. It is for everyone under our GOP’s big tent to unite and focus on our Party’s common values and beliefs. It is about unifying the party.
The Team Franken’s campaign is clearly set up now to play guerilla warfare politics. This is exactly the opposite of what 90% Minnesotan’s want. The Democrats can’t unify around Franken so they are trying to ruffle feathers to create distress in order to create demand for Franken’s botched and hopeless campaign.

mo: Think about Signing-up the College Republicans for free trips to Iraq, Afghanistan, and New York to tour the place where Norm Coleman failed his military draft physical.
Did he even bother to try taking it a second time?
July 19th, 2008 at 6:28 PM
Say, speakin’ o’ the RNC’s Convention, wouldn’t it be funny if the story about Jeff “Landlord” Larson cheating on his property taxes at the Washington D.C. mansion that ol’ Smokescreen crashes at, hits the MainStreamMedia “right” about the time the RNC hits town?
I mean, how apropos would that be, if “Landlord” Larson, the head of the RNC Host Committee, was takin’ a government handout for his personal deal, while getting a government handout for the GOP’s party deal?
July 19th, 2008 at 8:44 PM
This post is really stupid Michael, not your best. Furthermore, I believe people like you are the ones who initiated turning the whole race on the more dirty side with a bit more of a hand-to-hand combat feel.
Bah, Republicans are hopeless. I cant wait to win handidly this November, it’s gonna be fun.
July 19th, 2008 at 9:16 PM
“I cant wait to win handidly this November, it’s gonna be fun.”
Note it’s no longer “I cant wait for Franken to win handidly this November, it’s gonna be fun.”
Who will face us in September, Andrew? Fitzgerald, Faris, Franken, or Barkley?
Have a “fun” two months!!
HAHA!
July 19th, 2008 at 9:19 PM
Oh, wait I guess it may be only Faris in the Democrat primary.
July 19th, 2008 at 9:31 PM
Okay I guess there are 7 Democrat primary candidates:
“DICK” FRANSON
ROB FITZGERALD
PRISCILLA LORD FARIS
ALVE ERICKSON
BOB LARSON
OLE’ SAVIOR
Al Franken

Fitzgerald’s website isn’t live until Jul 21.
Is this Rob the same Rob who ran as an independent party candidate in 2006?

Democratic-Farmer-Laborer (DFL) not just Democratic.
July 20th, 2008 at 12:04 AM
J.P. if you’re going to use my posts for supposed support, please make sure to read it. As I said, the Ron Carey quote was from last election (2006). The RNC convention has nothing to do with it since it hadn’t been announced yet.
July 20th, 2008 at 4:43 PM
Jamie, I dont mean just this Senate race. Even if Franken loses, Republicans will get trounced everywhere else and Obama will win by a landslide. Peace out Republicans, you’ve done enough damage.
And anyone who thinks Franken isnt going to win his primary handidly is deluted.
July 20th, 2008 at 7:44 PM
Andrew:
What if I told you I just spoke online to a well-known committed Democrat on e-democracy.org who said quote “I’m not enthusiastic about Mr.Franken”
?
http://forums.e-democracy.org/r/post/1P0OZyq7N1Bb3KKfbuhw5v
I think Priscilla Lord Faris may just have what it takes.
She shares many of the same views as Franken and represents those views well for herself and her party.
I think the initial ardor for Obama among voters is now tempered with a responsible review of his policy positions, leadership, experience and foreign policy ability. From this process people will proudly vote for McCain.

I have to apologize to “WhoKnows Says” for my mistake. I jumped the gun and am glad that you called me on it. Thankyou. I am sorry. You are right people need to fully read the subject matter of the discussion before commenting. I am sorry for any damage I might have done to the legitimacy of this blog. I also respect everyone’s right to their opinions and in no way would ever want to compromise anyone’s message with inacurate information due to sloppy reading of the subject matter. I was an air-head.
I still believe that what a party chairman says during a convention is different than a well orchestrated campaign hand to hand style political campaign. Carey was giving a pep speech. What Team Franken announced was the start of a new negative hostile aggressive campaign against Norm Coleman in order to try to bring him down.
