BRUTAL: ROTHENBERG CALLS STEVE SARVI’S EFFORTS “PATHETIC” AND “UNIMPRESSIVE”

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 21, 2008

“I’ve heard a bit of a buzz recently about Democrat Steve Sarvi’s challenge to Rep. John Kline in Minnesota’s 2nd district. After seeing that Sarvi raised $147,000 in the second quarter and ended June with $98,000 in the bank, I have to figure that buzz is the winding down of the battery in the Democrat’s electric razor rather than excitement about his prospects.

Incredibly, Sarvi’s campaign is bragging about the numbers. Here’s what the candidate’s Web site said: ‘The campaign’s 2nd Quarter numbers represent nearly a two-and-a-half fold increase on its previous quarter and a three-fold increase on its 4th Quarter 2007 results.’ Translation: The campaign’s unimpressive second-quarter numbers weren’t as bad as its pathetic first-quarter numbers and its even worse fourth-quarter of 2007 numbers.” Source: Stuart Rothenberg, Roll Call (subscription required), July 21, 2008

I agree. I don’t know why anyone would spend any time on this one. Kline may win unanimously.

When I hear from an out-of-stater who uses fundraising totals as a crutch to rank a race, I am prone to listen to what he has to say. Afterall, no amount of living here, or seeing the Gutknecht-like fear on the faces of Kline staffers can trump a rather cursory look at the fundraising totals.

So we have “living here” and a “sighting” of supposedly fearful “Kline staffers”. Those are some pretty … pathetic cards you have in your hand there, Leroy Jenkins. Perhaps the ability of a candidate to inspire other to contribute money means nothing to you, but not everyone lives in “Leroy’s World”.

If I recall correctly Norm Coleman out-raised, and therefore, out-inspired Jesse Ventura in 1998.

Same for Paul Wellstone -v- Rudy Boschwitcz circa 1990.

Pretty sure Gil Gutknecht out-inspired the voters in 2006.

I could go on, but I hope you get the point. Money doesn’t win elections, vision does. And John Kline is trying to hide behind Norm as the poster child for Bush rubber stamping. But the curtain will be pulled back in due time, and we will see if he has enough money to overcome a thoroughly disappointed electorate.

Keep underestimating him MDE, they did the same thing with Walz!

What were Walz’s fundraising totals? I didn’t really become a political junky where I knew everyone’s fundraising totals and poll numbers until after the election so does Sarvi really compare well with Walz?

I think we have a case of “buzz” being manufactured by Democrats out of thin air where no buzz really exists.

Walz had almost 3x as much money on hand at this point: http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/dcdev/forms/C00409409/235317/

Plus, it’s 5-6x more expensive to run an effective advertising campaign in the TC Metro Area than it is in all of the markets Walz had to advertise in, combined.

      Sarvi is a dead duck.

Esme Murphy’s, “Race for Minn. 2nd District Heating Up” July 20th, 2008, 11:56 a.m. CT was interesting in that I got a chance to listen to Sarvi

That’s neat, Leroy Jenkins, but that’s not logical leap I made. I simply compared your “place of residence” and “feelings” you projected onto opposition staff members compared to actual fund raising numbers. I apologize if that was too complicated.

You may think how you “feel” about this race is an important indicator of how the race is going, since you “live here” and all, but I have to disagree.

Well, if Kline has more money, then he’s probably ‘bought’ the voters of MN2 since I’m sure they’ll believe all those ads that are created by that creative marketing company of Kline’s that show he’s more patriotic than any candidate the DFL can put up against him. And we all know that a football carrying patriot is the best representative in Congress. Who cares if they bring back any money to the district for things like roads and bridges. People of MN2 send much more tax money to DC than what they get back, and that can make us feel really good that we have this Robin Hood John Kline to send money to build roads and bridges and prisons for the people of Iraq, and other occupied nations. Kline is also good at voting to spend federal money on defense hardware, and to benefit big business, petroleum and pharmaceutical companies, and to keep the tax cuts for us wealthy business leaders. So we can just turn out the lights until November and tune back in to this race on election day.
