TEAM FRANKEN HIRES NOTORIOUS HATCHET MAN; SHORR’S PREVIOUS ADS FEATURING OSAMA BIN LADEN HAVE ANGERED DEMOCRATS

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 21, 2008

Trailing in the polls by double-digits, Team Franken’s new campaign ads have taken a nasty tone in the last few days.  Sadly, as we enter the final months of the election, Minnesotans should expect the advertising and campaign rhetoric from Team Franken and their allies to get even nastier.

    Why?

Because Team Franken’s has hired Saul Shorr as a media consultant. Shorr’s ads, some using the image of Osama bin Laden, have even angered fellow Democrats.

I’ve posted information before about Shorr on Minnesota Democrats Exposed.  Below is a summary of the information.

Shorr Was Behind Ads Attacking Vermont Governor Howard Dean Using Images of Osama bin Laden. “Dean has been slammed in ads financed by Americans for Jobs, Healthcare, and Progressive Values, formed in November [2004]. The latest of three ads made, I’ve learned, by Saul Shorr, a Philidelphia-based Democratic media consultant, takes a swipe at the former Vermont governor by showing the face of Osama bin Laden while the voiceover hits Dean for having no military or foreign policy experience.” (Lynn Sweet, “Dean Critics Lash Out Behind Spots,” Chicago Sun-Times, December 18, 2003

Ads Angered Democrats. “An advocacy ad attacking presidential candidate Howard Dean, running in New Hampshire and Iowa, is the product of political consultant Saul Shorr, Philadelphia’s own. The ad shows the face of Osama bin Laden while the voiceover this Dean for having no military or foreign policy experience. The Osama-Dean bit so angered Democrats that Dick Gephardt, whose supporters are almost certainly responsible had to disassociate himself from the ad.” (Chris Brennan and Dave Davies, “Our Guy Bashes Dean,” Philadelphia Daily News, December 29, 2003)

Shorr: “We Know How To Use A Scalpel As Well As The Hatchet.” “Shorr has produced his share of negative advertising as well. ‘We know how to use a scalpel as well as a hatchet,’ he says. … ‘When you use the hatchet it should be the last alternative. The hatchet has so much danger of coming back at you,’ a chastened Shorr admits.” (Steve Lilienthal, “How Saul Shorr Built A Media Consulting Firm From Scratch,” Roll Call, March 25, 1991)

I do love everytime MDE acts shocked anytime Franken’s campaign might go negative when every other post on this site attacks Franken.

What, are attacks on Franken’s tax issues, previous writings, and past jokes positive campaigning by MnGOP?

      Sadly Michael?

all your blog is, is one big attack ad, its a website dedicated to “exposing” aka attacking democrats. Then you come out and whine about Franken hiring someone who once made an attack ad. C’mon Michael.

Not at all. Porn-O-Rama has no record of public service so the GOP is simply putting the record that he does out to the public.

      It’s called the truth.

Yoni, I can see how exposing Democrat behavior might be seen as an “attack”, but looked at reasonably one must conclude that any way you put it, the actions of the party of scrubs is going to come out looking pretty nasty…’cause it is.

Didn’t Norm Coleman’s ad guy, Scott Howell, once compare Silver and Bronze Star wearing Vietnam War veteran Max Cleland to Bin Laden?

      Seems to me he did.

Strikes me, you better head to the hardware store, because your glass house needs a window repaired.

Whoa.. WHAT? So, if attacking the record of your opponent isn’t negative than how can you characterize any of Franken’s attacks on Coleman’s records negative?

Again, this is just an absurd “whahhhhh…. they’re doing what we were doing whahhhhh…”

If the only record someone has is filled with disturbing, angry, pornographic, violent incidents I just don’t see how discussing that record could be anything but negative.

The fact is that Al “porn-O-Rama” Franken has a solid reputation as a leftist scumbag. That’s not anyone’s fault but Al’s; the public has the right to know what kind of turd sandwich the Democrat party has put out on the platter for them.

Meanwhile, Norm Coleman has a record as a successful mayor of a large city and a solid, if too moderate for my taste, record as a freshman Senator.

Those are the facts, you’re just going to have to learn to get comfortable with them.

Well, solidly covering for the forced prostitution and forced abortions, sure! But, hey - your guy Jack Abramoff is Norm’s kind of guy!

That’s the fact, Swiftee - your guy Norm covered for Jack Abramoff.

Michael, sweetie, this is politics. It’s down and dirty hardball right until the last vote is counted. Negative ads come with the territory, and that bin Laden ad got everyone’s attention… didn’t it? I have seen some of Shorr’s other ads and that man’s a genius. He might not always play by the rules, but I think that’s refreshing in his line of work. I say, if you can’t take the heat you better, not only leave the kitchen, but the whole house.

I wonder el p, what is worse.

Failing a draft board physical or passing one and then making up a bunch of lies about what you did in the Army.

You, Cheeto Boy and John “Christmas in Cambodia” Kerry discuss amongst yourselves and get back to us, mmm K?

      Swiftee,

Calling John Kerry a liar not only is a dis service to him but to all of those wounded in battle and have been recipients of the Purple Heart.

Please don’t discredit those soldiers who have bravely fought and were wounded while serving our country.

Yoni, Scrotee is a liar, but does a great service in demonstrating the hatred in today’s GreedOverPrinciples party.

He’s the base, and he’s typical. He’s also an example of why today’s GOP is headed for Permanent Minority Status.

    15. Swiftee Says:
      July 22nd, 2008 at 7:14 am

Yoni, John Kerry told voters that he spent a Christmas in Cambodia…that was proved to be a false statement.

Lying about military service seems to come with Democrat party membership. “el p” suddenly became an RPG goalie and Cheeto Boy awarded himself disabled combat vet status; we think he came up with the idea when he cut his finger while fighting to tear open a bag of Cheeto’s.

You see Yoni, some soldiers did all their brave fighting in their dreams.

    16. Tommy Johnson Says:
      July 22nd, 2008 at 7:44 am

      You’re a liar, Scrotee.

And because lairs like you are the base, the GOP is headed for Permanent Minority Status.

    17. Swiftee Says:
      July 22nd, 2008 at 9:32 am

Say, Cheeto Boy? You really have no clue what a joke you are amongst the members of VFW post 425, do you?

When I say I’ve been down there and have gotten the story straight from the members, I’m not kidding…they told me you were a disgrace.

Have another bag O’ Cheetos, boy.
