i am surprised that you all have not seen the obvious: who get’s invited to a debate? whomever the sponsors ask.

in this case if the farm fest sponsors want to invite 3 or 10 candidates that is up to them. it is a private organization and they can damn well do what they want. i believe that would probably be covered under the right of association or disassociation.

if candidates do not want to participate that is up to them, based on how they see the risk/reward possibilities.

then, we as spectators can weigh in if farm fest is doing a bad/good job, the candidates and good/bad, etc. most likely everybody will learn from the experience.

None of those are “major party candidates” by any stretch of the imagination.

And what about the rest of the major party candidates? Since the bar is no longer going to be set at endorsed candidates, where do you draw the line?

What does “endorsement” have to do with anything? Why should anyone draw a line at “endorsed” candidates. A DFL endorsement isn’t worth shit, really. Franken is endorsed, but he hasn’t won a goddam thing. Or do you really think this should just be easy for that ass clown?

It seems most people think major party is an ambiguous term. The fact is that in Minnesota it is not ambiguous, it has a specific meaning, and no the Constitution party is not a major party. In order to qualify for major party status in Minnesota, any one of the partyâ€™s candidates must have received at least 5% of the vote in a state wide election. This means that the Republicans, Democrats, and the Independence party are all Major parties in Minnesota. I know the Green Party used to be a Major party in Minnesota, thanks to Ralph Nader, but I donâ€™t think they are any more.

It’s because Michael is full of it. Anyone can clearly see Franken is the nominee and by playing up a bunch of bullshit sexism crap because he won’t debate a woman who has no chance to beat him, it’s suddenly a huge problem. The Republican party disgusts me.

There are seven Independence Party candidates. Do they all get to come? There are also seven Democrats. Fairness dictates that all seven should be allowed to debate. And we all know there are not one, but TWO republicans on the ballot, as well as a yet to be endorsed Libertarian.

I would be curious to see how Michael draws the line to include Barkley, Uldrich and Farris, but exclude endorsed candidates like Williams and Niemacki.

if norm accepts the debate, franken would be forced to attend.

assuming franken attends, it would good for norm to make the other dems looks better than franken so that franken has to utilize more resources to fight his way through the primary.
