LORD FARIS SENDS LETTER TO FRANKEN ASKING HIM TO RECONSIDER DECISION TO NOT DEBATE

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 24, 2008

DFL Senate candidate Priscilla Lord Faris has sent a letter to Al Franken requesting that he reconsider his decision to not debate.

Please read the complete letter after the page jump.

    Dear Al,

I am disappointed that your spokesperson has announced that you will not debate me.  It is a Minnesota tradition that candidates for major offices debate prior to contested primaries.  I know that you are focusing on Mr. Coleman but I am surprised that you would not take advantage of the coverage you would receive in a contested debate with me.

I urge you to reconsider.  I know that you have recently added many out of state experts to your crew and I know that they could not possibly know how much Minnesotans appreciate debates to help them assess the candidates. Let Minnesotans meet you directly.

I represent a substantial part of the DFL who want to hear us discuss the issues.  I have been active in this party for 50 years.  I am firmly in touch with Minnesotans’ concerns and struggles.

The party endorsement is only a step in the process.  The rank and file voters have yet to weigh in.  A debate is for the benefit of all the voters.

I renew my invitation for you to debate me.

    Sincerely,

    Priscilla Lord Faris

This is borderline crazy. Franken debated against DFLers SEVENTEEN TIMES. There was an endorsement process. I wonder if she was even there. She sounds nuts.

The only people that care about this non-candidate are MDE/Coleman/MNGOP. For good reason.

What about Coleman debating Jack Shepard again?

“I know that you have recently added many out of state experts to your crew and I know that they could not possibly know how much Minnesotans appreciate debates to help them assess the candidates.”

In fact, the candidate himself is from “out of state”.

Al Franken: By non-Minnesotans, for non-Minnesotans.

Jack Shepard is a Democrat. Read his site, it’s clear.

Lord Faris is a republican. It is the only explanation for all the access she is giving Michael.

Chestnut, Jack Shepard is as much a Democrat as Norm Coleman. But, the fact is that Jack Shepard is Norm Coleman’s opponent in the September primary.

Coleman is treating Shepard the exact same way that Franken is treating Lord Faris.

      Does Coleman hate men?

I think not wanting to debate Jack Shepard shows that deep down, Norm is actually a self-loathing sexist.

Why didn’t Priscilla want to debate Franken in the endorsement process? Was she too busy writing checks in support of Al?

@hiram: uh, she was putting her brother in the ground, asshole.

You’re expecting him and other liberal clowns to have a conscience. You’re asking too much.

      Really?

Lord is such a well known commodity in this state that everyone should have known that her brother died this year?

Seems to me, you are the one who is being a bit assholic.

My guess is that Lord Farris has the support of at least 30 percent of Democrats.

    12. Chestnut Says:
      July 24th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

The ass clown activists who endorsed Franken at the DFL convention don’t really reflect the views of anyone.

    13. Leroy Jenkins Says:

My guess is that Chestnut is 80 percent insane, 16 percent drunk and 4 percent stupid.

If you think she pulls a 30, you must be some mixture of the holy trinity of republicanism from above.

      I don’t have to guess, I know Leroy’s 100% retarded.

Franken isn’t going to debate her because he can’t afford to be seen as the weak, flawed candidate that he is. He needs to show a position of strength, that he is the only Democrat candidate in the race. If he were to debate Faris, he would essentially be confirming everything Republicans say about him.

When you have such a bad candidate, you have to squash every bit of doubt and every alternative. That’s what the DFL and Franken are doing to Lord Faris. They already cast their lot with Franken and even though they may want their money back, they’re stuck with him. That means Faris has to be dispensed with.

I think Al would DESTROY Faris in a debate. Did anyone see her on Almanac last week?

She had no idea about any of the issues, she was just running to be the alternative candidate. People don’t gravitate toward the candidate who runs on a platform of not being someone else. It just doesn’t happen.

Faris is no more, nor any less a contender than Ole Savior, Alve Erickson and Dick Franson. If she really felt strongly about this seat, she would have been there for the first 17 debates.

“@hiram: uh, she was putting her brother in the ground”

I attended one DFL senate debate in Golden Valley which included Al Franken and all the other DFL contenders in July of last year. The chronic illness of her brother didn’t seem to stop her from supporting Franken during the endorsement process when many, many people out there were looking for a good alternative. She made a very deliberate decision not to participate in the process when she would have been welcomed at the debates. It’s too late for her to change her decision now.

surprisingly, it’s not. primary is sept. 9th.

    19. hiram Says:
      July 24th, 2008 at 4:55 pm

She had every right to participate in the debates that were part of the year long endorsement process where she would have been welcomed. For reasons she has not fully explained, she made the decision to waive that right and support Franken. There is nothing unfair about holding her to those decisions now.

“People don’t gravitate toward the candidate who runs on a platform of not being someone else.”

I don’t think the Democrats running on a platform of “we’re not George W. Bush” will do very well either.
