TEAM FRANKEN ENTERS “HAND-TO-HAND, DAY-TO-DAY COMBAT” BY WAVING WHITE FLAG

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 24, 2008

Last week, Team Franken was boasting that they were entering the “hand-to-hand, day-to-day combat” phase of the campaign.  A week later, Team Franken is waving the white flag.

In a new campaign ad, Franken now claims he’s “…not proud of every joke he every told…” Over 17 months after Franken entered this race and on the same day a new poll is released showing him trailing Coleman by 15-points, Franken attemps another half-hearted apology.  The decision to run this ad shows how much trouble Team Franken thinks their candidate is in with Minnesotans.

Which of Franken’s jokes is he still proud that he told? Do the jokes about rape, murder and drunk driving make the “proud of” list?

Still waiting for Norm to apologize to the people of Minnesota for his blind allegiance to the president…

I think this ad will be very effective. It addresses the MDE/Coleman/MNGOP mudslinging and brings the topic back to the issues. You guys going to keep on trying to distract? Good luck, people see right through it.

Maybe those bowlers will come back and talk about their sons and daughters in Iraq or maybe those bowlers will come back and talk about the weak dollar and the price of gas. I’d like to see what they think about those things.

Maybe Aaron. But it’s something Franken should have released about six to nine months ago, versus trying to explain that he’s a “satirist”… It made him sound like the elitist dick wad he is. Moreover, once folks understand what a satirist is, the more they realize that’s not what Franken is.

      Franken’s a hate monger.

Chestnut - he said almost the same exact words from that video at the DFL Convention. It was printed and in video with almost every mainstream press outlet in Minnesota.

Michael B. Brodkorb (MBB) enters last few days of July 2008 by title writing White Lie & Wagging White [Lie] Finger!

Aaron: Al Franken has said that being a satirist is good training for becoming a U.S. Senator.

Franken’s record as satirist includes jokes about raping and drugging women, murder and drunk driving.

His time spent training to be a U.S. Senator is fair game.

    7. Aaron Says:
      July 24th, 2008 at 10:50 pm

Michael- Using that funny logic, any joke anyone tells reflects on what they’d literally do as a Senator and accurately reflects their belief system. Heh. Do you really think people are going to believe that?

    8. Michael B. Brodkorb Says:
      July 24th, 2008 at 11:07 pm

Aaron: According to Franken, his time spent as a satirist was good training to be a U.S. Senator. The time he spent training to become a U.S. Senator is fair game.

I believe Franken’s jokes, including the jokes about rape, murder and drunk driving, raise serious questions about Franken’s belief system and judgement.

I think Minnesotans have a great sense of humor. But what’s funny about rape? What’s funny about murder? What’s funny about drunk driving?

this will be a very effective commercial. the basic message is actions speak louder than words, Franken made some bad jokes over during his career. but how many people died from them? our soldiers are dying every day which is a direct result of Norm Coleman’s rubber stamp which he’s given Bush.

Minnesotans will see that too, actions speak louder than words.

    10. Aaron Says:
      July 24th, 2008 at 11:33 pm

Michael- When people continue to learn more about Franken and realize he’s actually a fantastic advocate for womens’ rights and issues, has a strong family, hasn’t killed anyone (nor plans to) and is animately against drunk driving, I think they’ll understand the difference between the MDE/Coleman/MNGOP framing and the honest truth about Al Franken.

    11. Chestnut Says:
      July 24th, 2008 at 11:34 pm

      Yoni,
I’m not sure what the current count is, but more soldiers died in peace time under Bill Clinton than in the first three years of the Iraq war.

      Give us all a break.

    12. Chestnut Says:
      July 24th, 2008 at 11:35 pm

And speaking of rubber stamps, I assume you’re a proponent of replacing all the Democrats in the House and Senate… those war spending bills couldn’t get passed with 95 percent majorities without their rubber stamps.

    13. Chestnut Says:
      July 24th, 2008 at 11:36 pm

It’s a good thing we have had those elected officials who were willing to support the soldiers and their mission.

It’s funny to listen to Democrats whine about winning the war against our enemies as though its a bad thing.

    14. el presidente Says:
      July 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm

~What’s funny about “Bring it on.”?

Doesn’t that also raise serious questions about Bush’s judgment?

~Brownie, you’re doing one heck of a job.

Doesn’t that also raise serious questions about Bush’s judgment?

are you kidding me? that is the stupidest thing I’ve read. combat related deaths dipshit. Jesus Chestnut, is reality that hard for you to grasp? You should try to get a job with Paulsen, you’d fit right in.

Also the Iraq war is going on year five, how stoned are you right now?

This ad violates the first rule of a negative ad, never have the candidate themself make the negative charge. True or not, this ad would be much better coming from someone besides Franken.

    17. doctor evil Says:
      July 25th, 2008 at 12:46 am

By the way, someone tell Al Franken a 2006 campaign against the war in Iraq won’t work in 2008. We are winning in Iraq. Even Obama says that. Find another issue Mr. Franken.

    18. Barack McCain Says:
      July 25th, 2008 at 2:33 am

Since when is there “training” to be a US Senator. I wonder if the founding fathers had this mind, that only career politicians should be allowed to be in office. Yeah, I’m sure thats exactly what they were thinking.

    19. Barack McCain Says:
      July 25th, 2008 at 2:42 am

Why do we keep talking about winning and losing in Iraq. Its not a sporting event!!! Come on guys.

So whats the score? Who has the ball? What quarter are we in? Whose the insurgent’s best player?

    20. Yoni Says:
      July 25th, 2008 at 2:58 am

The score is over 4124 US soldier’s dead. For what, giving Al Qaeda and the Taliban the opportunity to regroup in Afghanistan?

Deaths of Iraqis(very very very low-ball estimate) 43,000

Number of soldiers killed during combat during the Clinton administration - 76

    21. Chestnut Says:
      July 25th, 2008 at 3:34 am

      So Yoni,
The fact that there were more non-combat deaths under Bill Clinton than the total of combat and non combat deaths under GWB doesn’t strike you as interesting?

BTW — the Washington Post recently demolished the bullshit argument that anyone has regrouped in Afghanistan, or that Afghanistan is a central front. The paper said accurately:

[T]here are no known al-Qaeda bases in Afghanistan, and any additional U.S. forces sent there would not be able to operate in the Pakistani territories where Osama bin Laden is headquartered. While the United States has an interest in preventing the resurgence of the Afghan Taliban, the country’s strategic importance pales beside that of Iraq, which lies at the geopolitical center of the Middle East and contains some of the world’s largest oil reserves. If Mr. Obama’s antiwar stance has blinded him to those realities, that could prove far more debilitating to him as president than any particular timetable.

When will you idiot Democrat dipshits wake the hell up?

BM: “Why do we keep talking about winning and losing in Iraq. Its not a sporting event!!! Come on guys.”

Spoken like the true asshole who’s “Iraq is a quagmire” argument has been demonstrated to be complete shit.

    22. Swiftee Says:
      July 25th, 2008 at 8:19 am

Say Aaron? How does Franken feel about pilfering a children’s charity?

What does he think about refusing to take responsibility, about making excuses, about lying?

    23. Swiftee Says:
      July 25th, 2008 at 8:20 am

      Say, “el p”?

I don’t think anyone is going to vote for George Bush this year, you can relax, pal. Loosen that tin-foil hat a bit and let some air get to your pointy little head.

    24. Yoni Says:
      July 25th, 2008 at 11:38 am

The fact that there were more non-combat deaths under Bill Clinton than the total of combat and non combat deaths under GWB doesn’t strike you as interesting?

no it doesn’t, people get sick, people get killed, people kill themselves, how can that be the responsibility of the president if they are non-combat related fatalities? And I did some research on the Internets, your numbers are way off percentage wise.

And the continued rise of combat related deaths means nothing to you Chestnut?

And all that Washington Post article proves is Bush started the war for oil. Nothing like fooling the public and having your stooges at the Washington Post prove it for you.
