WHICH OF FRANKEN’S JOKES IS HE STILL PROUD THAT HE TOLD?

By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 25, 2008

Facing a new poll that shows him trailing U.S. Senator Norm Coleman by 15-points, a visibly shaken Al Franken is seen in a newly released campaign ad attempting a half-hearted apology for his 30-year career as a satirist.

In the ad, Franken now claims he’s “…not proud of every joke he every told…”

Which of Franken’s jokes is he still proud that he told? Do the jokes about rape, murder and drunk driving make the “proud of” list?

Clearly, Franken has made two lists of his jokes – a “proud of” list and a “not proud of” list.  It’s time for Team Franken to release the lists.

When people continue to learn more about Franken and realize he’s actually a fantastic advocate for womens’ rights and issues, has a strong family, hasn’t killed anyone (nor plans to) and is animately against drunk driving, I think they’ll understand the difference between the MDE/Coleman/MNGOP framing and the honest truth about Al Franken.

This is stupid. He’s told 1,000s of jokes. He’s not going to say he’s not proud of any of the jokes he said.

My guess is that Team Franken decided that the only people that cared to translate what he said as a comedian with what he’d do as a U.S. Senator are MDE/Coleman/MNGOP. I’m guessing they’ll let you continue making the lists while they concentrate on representing Minnesotans.

Wow, funniest thing Brodkorb has ever said.

Yes, he should release two lists of every joke he’s ever told. Not only is this dumb, it completely misses the point of the ad.

Jokes are jokes. Being a senator is different than telling jokes. Why is Coleman so afraid to talk about being a senator as opposed to talking about jokes?

This post is a joke Michael should not be proud of.

  7. Jane Says:

Interesting that now he is a comedian again. What happened to the lofty “Satirist”. I guess as long as you are a comedian jokes about drugging and raping women and the particularly vile “Yeah, I screwed a woman who was vomiting once.” are funny.

Given his often stated belief that being a comedian/satirist(depending on which foul joke) is good training for the senate, pretty hard to run away from it now. At least don’t expect Minnesotans to buy it.

  8. el presidente Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 9:51 AM

He probably is the MOST PROUD of jokes where he LISTED TO THE LEFT, and the least proud where he listed to the right.

    R U 2 B-Z 2 C D 2?

Again, this is just stupid logic. He didn’t say every joke he told prepared him being a senator. Let’s apply this same logic to the Republicans. Coleman should list EVERYTHING he did in the MN Atty’s office (not just cases), EVERYTHING. Yes, when MDE logic is applied to republicans it’s ridiculous. But, what’s worse is that you don’t realize how dumb it is to try and peg it on the DFL candidates.

If there’s no news, don’t post.

Its obvious Al’s campaign is imploding on him. They are frantically getting supports to (all 5 of them) to overwhelm blogs like MDE with their lies to try an divert attention from the fact that Al is losing and losing bad. These scandals will bring him down as most people (not counting the radical left) will reject him and his sick ways. People will not support someone who thinks rape is funny, that not taking care of employees is ok, and is incapable of managing his own business finances. The more bitching from the left we see the more we know they see the hand writing on the wall. Al is done for and Norm will be relected in November.

  13. Left is RIGHT Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 11:17 AM

I’m helping Al out with his lists:

List 1–Jokes that offend Brodkorb/Carey/MN GOP

List 2–Jokes that do not offend Brodkorb/Carey/MN GOP

We obviously know which list Al is the “not proud of” list.

I recognize that it would appear that List 2 is a pretty small list. Maybe Brodkorb/Carey/MN GOP can offer up their own list of what things are ok to joke about.

Enough of this nonsense. I need to get back to making my You Tube video to submit for the You Tube contest: http://youtube.com/youchoose08

  14. James Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 11:17 AM

Great ad Al! At least someone is talking about the real issues that matter to Minnesotans and their quality of life. Something Norm has refused to do, because he has a 90% voting record that follows the policies of Bush.
Since you are talking of “proud lists”, does Norm have a “proud list” and “not so proud list” of his inappropriate advances toward women in the local bar scene?

  15. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 11:22 AM

I agree with everyone who has posted on this thread.

    Michael’s suggestion is viciously stupid.

  16. MinnesotaNice Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 11:27 AM

Don’t you think maybe it just might be a sorta good idea (possibly) to have an open discussion about the issues. Everyone knows your job is to to spin the truth for the MN GOP, but this is getting a little old.

  17. Swiftee Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 11:35 AM

Al Franken has not made the case that he is qualified to discuss anything seriously.

Every time he has been confronted with an uncomfortable truth, vis. Gloria Wise; failed tax shelter incorportation & etc., he has chosen to lie and obfuscate.

Al has no record of public service or leadership. All we can do is measure him by what he has done with his own life, and it ain’t good.

  18. munchkinmom Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 11:48 AM

What he has done with his own life? HOw about being married to the same woman faithfully for over 30 years, raising 2 responsible kids and being such a stand up guy that his 4th grade teacher wanted to be in ads with him?

    Where is Norm’s teacher?

And for that matter, where is Norm’s family?

The lies being spread are awful, and they won’t resonate in the long term. How about those issues, swiftee? Think you can come out of the gutter long enough to discuss something with substance?

  19. The Audacity of HYPE Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 11:50 AM

    To all the lefties,

You keep screaming that you want to talk about issues. OK, tell us Frankens stances on the major issues as you see them.

Just a reminder, complaining about Coleman is not discussing issues.

If you can’t come up with a good reason to vote for him, other than “he’s not Norm”, than you are in real trouble.

  20. munchkinmom Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 12:07 PM

    http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2008/07/21/frankentaxplan/

Here is a recent piece that explains Franken’s latest proposals. He would pay for these incentives by closing the off shore tax shelters currently allowed by the Bush administration.

By the way, don’t you think hiding money off shore not only negates the “trickle down economics” theory because the rich guys are not taking care of us by putting their money back into the economy like we have been told for years, but is also unpatriotic and unamerican to hide income in a time of war?

I am not complaining about Norm, but I definitely do not want a continuation of the policies of the Bush administration. It is a time for change, and a politician with a 90% voting record in alignment with bad policy is not what we need right now.

Go to http://www.alfranken.com and read for yourself.

“HOw about being married to the same woman faithfully for over 30 years, raising 2 responsible kids and being such a stand up guy that his 4th grade teacher wanted to be in ads with him?”

If that’s all it takes to be qualified for US Senate, the Democrat party should have been able to come up with at least one candidate who filled the bill and hadn’t bilked a children’s charity, or written a story about his 12 year old son’s study of beastiality, or fantisized about drugging and raping women, or bungled his own finances, or repeatedly lied about all of the above.

What the heck happened down at Democrat HQ, munchmom?

  24. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 1:32 PM

If Swiftee is allowed to speak in such a way about a Senatorial candidate, I should certainly be allowed to talk about the lead story in both papers right now, which has to do with Pawlenty’s former spokesperson and his prostitution arrest without threat of banning. I am not making things up. I am simply pointing to current events, and how they paint a pretty accurate picture of Republicans say one thing and do another.

  25. munchkinmom Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 1:32 PM

I am so glad you have never made an honest accounting error.

Maybe republicans should practice what they preach. Then they wouldn’t get caught in those sex rings in St Paul, as it is being reported in the Star Tribune. And Hong is not the first republican to be caught in a sting, now is he?

Of course, since Michael censored my last post, you have to find the article for yourself. Don’t worry, I am sure it will be on the 5pm news.

  26. Pete Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 3:32 PM

Hey, hows John Edwards doing to day munchie? Cheating on his wife with cancer. Class act… I’m betting this increases his chances of being Obama’s VP.

  27. munchkinmom Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 4:07 PM

I guess I would say that if the story hits mainstream and is proven, then I will believe it. Otherwise, I will think it is as credible as those stories about the Bush divorce, or the Bush daughter’s shotgun wedding, or aliens at Target.

Daily Kos actually did a good post on the subject yesterday.

  28. Swiftee Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 4:12 PM

    Say, RobinMunchmom?

How is bilking a children’s charity of almost a $million dollars an “honest accounting error”?

How is telling the newspapers you haven’t done business in California for five years, and then having to explain solid evidence to the contrary an “honest accounting error”?

Yeah, I know, I know..it’s not like the guy drags his infant daughter into bars or anything.

BTW, RobinMunchmom. Are you on the Soros payroll right now, or is this a freebie?

    Pfft.

Swiftee– sorry but my name is not Robin and I have never worked for Soros. So you haven’t outed me!

As for the children’s charity, would you show a credible source for this claim? This is the first time I am hearing anything about this, and I would like to see the story and the source.

    Thank you.

  31. Swiftee Says:
    July 25th, 2008 at 9:50 PM

munchkin, go to google; type in Al Franken + Gloria Wise and take your pick of credible sources…NY Times, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post…this story was covered as deeply as the sand you’ve had your head in.

  32. munchkinmom Says:
    July 26th, 2008 at 7:51 AM

Sorry, swiftee, all I see are right wing blogspots that are obviously biased. No legitimate sources. No NY Times, no LA Times, no Chicago Tribune, and the only Washington Post talks about some new campaign people he has hired. If you have a mainstream credible source, post the link because I would like to read it.

Oh, and I typed Al Franken, Gloria Wise just like you said.

I see there was a scandal, and I also know that Al Franken worked unpaid for quite a long time, while he paid his staff out of his own pocket. Don’t know if he was involved or even knew about what Gloria Wise did at the time.

    Thank you.

  33. Swiftee Says:
    July 26th, 2008 at 2:45 PM

I understand munchmom. Being a lefty moron is hard enough by itself…here, hold my hand:

Here’s a newpaper story that will tell you all about how Al lied about not knowing he was being paid with the proceeds of the charity pilfering…it’s pretty easy to understand, but if you have any trouble, ask someone to read it to you.
