i wish carey would go a little easier on franken until after the primary. if these comments are anything like the feminist issues, franken is going to lose the primary and then norm will have a real race on his hands.

Anyone else notice the pattern here? Seems Franken’s “satire” revolves exclusively around committing violent acts against weaker forces. … that would, I guess, be consistent with his generally angry and hate-driven persona.

Al Franken, the candidate of hate from the party of hatred.

chestnut has it right. when franken uses satire it is considered a qualification to serve in the senate. when rush limbaugh uses satire, it is hate speech.

but what else is new–libs are virtually always hypocrits when it serves their purposes.

I don’t have time to count, but this summer has been entirely press releases and media advisory. If there’s no news, don’t post it.

Also, there are real ideological differences between the candidates. There are real differences in policy, differences that matter for the future of the nation and the state.

If you’re going to discuss jokes, why not look at the jokes of your candidate?

Oh my god. McCain told a bestiality rape joke, I imagine all of you high and mighties will now be calling for his immediate withdrawal from the race?

Or would that be too consistent for you?

    Al’s running against John McCain?

  7. ansel Says:

let’s start with mccain alleged joke versus franken documented (in his own writing/video/recordings) jokes. which would, or should, carry more significance with the voters–i think those that a voter can actually hear/see for themselves.

considering the amount of sludge being thrown around by both parties, “alleged” anything doesn’t get you much any more–i.e. the whitey tape by michelle obama. under pablo’s thinking, we should all consider that the alleged whitey tape is real. i don’t until i see it.

Leroy, come back when you have some proof to back that up. We will gladly wait – hopefully a long long time. Later dude.

Pablo, CarletonDem, whatever… I find it humorous that you dumb bastards have to manufacture lies like that to feel better about your hateful, angry, and stupid Senate candidate.

You want to talk about issues, then proceed to libel John McCain.

    Nice try dick wad.

You are right, however. There are real differences between these candidates. Norm Coleman is right, Al Franken is wrong… on every issue.

Norm Coleman has contributed to the quality of life in this state and helped Minnesotans. Al Franken has only a track record of self-service.

Norm Coleman has a history of working across the partisan divide to reach consensus and get work done on behalf of the people. Al Franken has a history of helling, pushing and swearing at those he disagrees with.

    The differences are clear.

  10. Leroy Jenkins Says:

With all the banks and businesses (Mervyns and Bennigans announced today) going belly up, I can’t wait to see how republicans attempt to deflect their incompetence by rehashing yet another Al Franken joke.

Maybe Minnesotans won’t notice that this president and his war have nearly bankrupted the country if they are distracted long enough by jokes.

The recent finding that it would take $140 Billion to fix all of our deficient bridges, when set beside the fact that we are spending 200 million a day on the war, shows that if we would have left when George Bush announced Mission Accomplished and set that money aside, we wouldn’t all have to worry about 1,200 pound slabs of concrete falling on our cars during the morning commute.

  11. ansel Says:
    July 29th, 2008 at 3:29 PM

if only will take $140 billion to fix the bridges why don’t the dems in congress elimnate the earmarks and commit those monies to road construction? it would take about two years worth of earmarks to fix all the bridges?

  12. Chestnut Says:
    July 29th, 2008 at 3:36 PM

Yeah, Mervyn’s and Bennigan’s… true stalwarts of the U.S. economy. LOL!!!!

Did you add the rest of that to your fairy tale collection Leroy?

    Brilliant!

  13. Pete Says:
    July 29th, 2008 at 3:39 PM

Leroy, so sexual abuse of children is a fair target for Al’s so called humor huh? Democrats supporting a person who finds sexual abuse of a child funny. Wish I could say I am surpised but I am not…

  14. Pablo Says:
    July 29th, 2008 at 4:06 PM

To everyone who’s complaining about proof, look at the post that I linked above, where you will find a PDF of an article from the Tucson Citizen from 1986, which documents two individuals who heard McCain make that joke. More to the point, in that post, I document a series of jokes that show some serious issues. I didn’t just post that link to plug my blog, but so that you could see a bigger point with evidence….but I guess that was too much to ask.

Al’s not running against John McCain, but I think that Leroy is right in asking for consistency.

    Chestnut,

I’ve read your posts several times throughout this blog (which once upon a time had thoughtful original posts worth reading), and I know that its not worth my while to respond. But there are some fun things to note. For example, you call me a bastard and a dick wad and at the same time you call me the angry one. Based on posts alone (which is all I have to go on at this point), I’d say I sound much less angry than you.

Additionally, you claim that I ask that MDE to look at the issues and then go on to “libel McCain.” In fact, libeling implies that I maliciously lied about McCain. There are several well documented jokes that I refer to in the post that I linked to, and no specific joke that mentioned in the post above. I was not talking about McCain’s joke about 1986 in specific, and when I do (in the linked post) I provide enough evidence to show that I believe it to be true.

Do you think that there are any jokes told about women in the mostly male sectors of the USA MILITARY?

Do you think that COMEDIAN BOB HOPE told any jokes about women when he entertained the mostly male troops overseas?

  16. Chestnut Says:
    July 29th, 2008 at 7:10 PM

Pablo, I’m not sure if repeating other’s slander is a defense of your libel.

  17. Chestnut Says:
    July 29th, 2008 at 7:12 PM

I’m also pretty sure that “hear say” from a couple of unreliable sources doesn’t fit the definition of “well documented.”

    Puh-leaze…

On the other hand, I have it from some very reliable sources that Barak Obama yelled “kill whitey” while pissing on an American flag and committing an unnatural act with Bill Ayers.

    It’s well documented.
