MN PUBLIUS BLOGGER CALLOUSLY LABELS MOTHER OF CHILD WITH CANCER FEATURED IN COLEMAN CAMPAIGN AD AS “WEEPY”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 30, 2008

Team Franken’s embedded blogger at MN Publius, Aaron Landry, has decided to attack a positive issue ad from U.S. Senator Norm Coleman’s campaign about his work to get additional funding for childhood cancer research.

The ad described as “pretty powerful stuff” by WCCO, features Mrs. Kris Rech and her son Wyatt, who was diagnosed with Wilms’ Tumor, which is a rare form of childhood kidney cancer.

Landry’s attacks on the ad are not just directed at Senator Coleman, but also at Mrs. Rech, who Landry callously describes as just a “weepy mother.”

Stay classy Aaron, I’m sure Team Franken is proud of your work today.

UPDATE: While claiming the he fixed a “grammatical error” in the first line of his post, Landry actually just changed the word “weepy” to “weeping.”

I’m pretty honored to have my own thread on MDE! I’m sure anyone paying attention knows what’s really going on. I don’t even need to defend myself. Have fun in this thread, yo.

…and the old lady in Angry Al(len’s) commercial is senile. (One would have to be senile to be a woman supporting Franken.)

  3. Michael B. Brodkorb Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 2:05 PM

Aaron: What I think is going on is that you and the rest of Team Franken hate Senator Coleman so much that you will mock the mother of a child with cancer by calling her “weepy.” When called out about your post, you quickly change the word “weepy” to “weeping” and then claim you fixed a “grammatical error” in your post. Team Franken must be proud of you today.

  4. Andrew Says:

Maybe the ad should also mention not just the funds for childhood cancer research that he has gotten your children and my generation but also the trillions of dollars in national debt we get to help pay off. Great job Coleman! Keep those tax cuts coming so my younger generation can help pay for them later.

  5. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 2:24 PM

Yeah. What percentage of my tax cut is little Wyatt going to be forced to pay?

I’m sure over his lifetime, he will be paying much more than Norm Coleman saved him with “his” cancer funding work.

  6. el presidente Says:

    “weeping”
    “wept”
    “weepy”
    “willow weep for me”

Did Norm Coleman’s mother WEEP when Norm didn’t pass his USA Military Draft Physical?

If she did were they tears of joy, tears of sorrow, etc.?

  7. Leaving the Left Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 2:39 PM

Al Franken tells child abuse jokes and steals money from the boys and girls club of New York to keep Air America afloat, so why would his campaign not trivialize a child dying of cancer. Al Fraken and his hit boys on this sight make me sick. I wonder if his 4th grade teacher on his ad apporves of his treatment of children. Those of us who work with children find this kind of stuff a disgrace.

  8. Mark Peterson Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 2:40 PM

Wow, using weep or some form of the word as an adjective for someone, accurately I may ad, is not a negative thing.

Unless you’re Michael Brodkorb and you’ve sold your emotions down the creek to embrace the dark side.

  9. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 2:46 PM

My favorite part about Norm’s latest vicious ad is how vicious Norms lies are.

Both Esme Murphy and Rachel Stassen-Berger report than the ad is built on an absolute non-debatable lie.

Why does Norm feel the need to lie to Minnesotans?

  10. Average Joe Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 3:08 PM

Did Norm Coleman’s mother WEEP when Norm didn’t pass his USA Military Draft Physical?

The desperation of the nut bar left shows no better than idiotic stuff like this. Who fricken cares? Angry Al(len)’s gang continually whines about how “Norm doesn’t want to talk about issues” and then they have their clowns posting crap like this.

  11. Chestnut Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 3:08 PM

Nice hate you got going there Leroy.

  12. PlymouthDem Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 3:12 PM

I don’t get what the big deal is. there is a mother weeping in the ad, that makes her weepy. it would have been more callous to ignore her emotional state.

  13. The Audacity of HYPE Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 3:25 PM

    PD,

The definitions of the 2 words are the same, according to the dictionary.

He’s trying to portray the woman as disingenuous by describing her as a “weepy mother”.

And if that wasn’t the intent, why did he change it?

  14. PlymouthDem Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 3:27 PM

“He’s trying to portray the woman as disingenuous”

And there’s where the gap is.. where is he doing that?

He’s saying she (and Coleman) got it wrong. He’s not saying she faking that she’s sad because her kid had cancer.

  15. St. Paul Slim Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 3:34 PM

Without mentioning the post you’re talking about, MDE, this Aaron guy is a complete chode. He’s really brought down the level of discourse on mnpublius. I rarely, if ever, agree with Matt, Zack, et al but they at least didn’t come across as complete hacks.

Where’d they find this guy? Did they just show up at protest and take the first guy with a car full of angry bumper stickers or what?

  16. The Audacity of HYPE Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 3:41 PM

If you watch the video, you couldn’t even call her a “weeping” mother.

She did get teary eyed, but she never wept.

That just confirms what Aaron was trying to do by calling her a “weepy” mother.

  17. Average Joe Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 3:50 PM

The definition of “weepy” includes the idea that this person is inclined to weep. This means they’re inclined to weep more than the average person.

The intend of the word is obvious – it’s meant as “dis” to say this lady is just a whiner.

    You knew this, of course.

  18. Yoni Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 4:05 PM

    Michael,

how many members of Team Franken have a blog, which has at least 10 posts a day, decimating Franken’s character? NONE! and then you have the nerve to say that Team Franken hates Coleman. You are the one w/ the hatred, or the fat check book, its either one or the other. You sure don’t seem like the type of person that would be doing this strictly for the “love of the game.”

  19. Yoni Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 4:06 PM

    Average douche says:

The definition of “weepy” includes the idea that this person is inclined to weep. This means they’re inclined to weep more than the average person.

If I had a child with cancer I would probably be weeping more than the average person also.

Your stupidity just claimed the validity of both Aaron’s original headline with the typo and his corrected headline. Thanks

  20. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 4:25 PM

Why won’t anyone on the right defend the fact that the ad is based entirely on a lie?

You have issues with Al’s honesty, but you don’t hold your own guy to the same standard. How transparently dishonest can your side be?

  21. The Audacity of HYPE Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 4:32 PM

You can debate the content of the ad all you want.

The post is about how Aaron thinks it’s OK to go after the mother of a cancer victim to try to deflect from the ad.

  22. Sean2 Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 4:46 PM

The ad isn’t a lie. The mother made a point that there wasn’t enough funding for childhood cancer. Coleman co-authored a bill that passed this month unanimously and was signed into law yesterday. The ad is completely factual. The sole issue is the nitpicking of the words “there was no funding for childhood cancer” as being completely literal.

  23. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 4:53 PM

You spend a whole election season taking satirical jokes as literal, and then you expect the same microscope not to examine your guy?

Bottom line, she said there was no funding where there WAS funding, and Norm Coleman was willing to lie about an actual kid with actual cancer to win votes.

Nothing is as shameful as abusing a kid with cancer to win votes.

  24. Yoni Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 5:27 PM

hmmm Al Franken made a poor joke about child abuse 10 years ago, Norm Coleman lies about a kid with cancer not getting funding to get votes.

    What is worse? You decide!

  25. ansel Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 5:38 PM

the “no funding for childhood cancer” is the same as someone, probably you and me saying, “i’ve done this a million times” which is just a figure of speech.

  26. Dr.Bob Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 6:17 PM

Perhaps the phrase “there was no funding for childhood cancer” applied to her son’s particular type of cancer or his particular case – in which case it is sloppy language, but not a lie.

Of course that doesn’t matter to the demos here.

I was thinking of printing a bunch of “Franken is FUBAR” bumper stickers and passing them out, but he might not survive the primary against Lord Faris.

  27. Average Joe Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 6:25 PM

    Average douche says:

Is that the best you got? Please.

My guess is that you’re one of the burley trucker chicks picked for the Angry Al(len) bowler commercial.

Your stupidity just claimed the validity of both Aaron’s original headline with the typo and his corrected headline. Thanks

The fact is, doodess, she wasn’t crying, she wasn’t “weeping”, and she clearly – under any definition of the word – “weepy”. You’re ignorance is showing.

  28. Jane Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 8:34 PM

yoni? Are you a mother? A sister? an aunt? a daughter? Trust me, making a joke about child abuse is really not something normal people relate to. Al Franken’s obsession with porno, rape and now child abuse.

You are comparing that to Coleman authoring a bill for childhood cancer.

What planet do you Franken supporters live on.

  29. jay Says:
    July 30th, 2008 at 9:28 PM

  32. Nana Says:

Ok, I’ve been converted. I’m giving all my money to child cancer research and none to political candidates.

Today’s candidate becomes tomorrow’s criminal. At least the children can grow up to be taxpayers to help reduce the federal deficit.

  33. Yoni Says:

How much has the federal deficit increased during the Bush administration anyways?
