PRESS RELEASE: LORD FARIS SENDS LETTER TO DFLERS CLAIMING FRANKEN COULD HURT ENTIRE DFL TICKET
By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 30, 2008
I received this press release and letter earlier today from Priscilla Lord Faris’ campaign. Please read the letter Lord Faris sent to DFLers after the page break.
###
In a letter to several hundred DFL officers, delegates and elected officials, Priscilla Lord Faris predicted that Al Franken’s campaign could hurt the entire DFL ticket. Lord Faris is challenging Franken in the Sept. 9 DFL primary for the U. S. Senate,
“I do not run against Al personally but I believe the Coleman seat is ours for the taking if we have a candidate without the baggage Al is carrying. I was an early supporter of Al Franken. But I had no idea of the extent of the negative issues which are in Mr. Franken’s background. In some ways I feel duped. Many DFLers have told me they feel the same way.” Lord Faris stated.
Lord Faris cited recent polling data which has Franken behind by 15 points and pointed out that the Washington D.C. political reporting establishment has downgraded Franken’s chances of winning the seat. Lord Faris cited Politico.com which she said has dropped Franken from the top 10 most likely seats to change hands.
“And most troublesome is the poll’s finding that 20% of rank and file DFL voters say they will vote for Coleman.  The republican attack machine is doing its work against Mr. Franken with blistering ads. His return from a 36 year absence opens him up to charges of carpetbagging,” Lord Faris said.
My Fellow DFLers,
I am writing to discuss my candidacy for the U. S. Senate. Let me be clear. I was an early supporter of Al Franken. But I had no idea of the extent of the negative issues which are in Mr. Franken’s background. In some ways I feel duped. Many DFLers have told me they feel the same way.
All of the issues are in our favor. From the failures of the Bush-Cheney-Coleman policies in Iraq, a failing economy, housing crisis, jobs crisis, foreclosures, bankruptcies, lack of health care and more, we should win this senate seat and yet Mr. Franken is trailing badly. Never in our history have we had a candidate so well-funded with such high name identification. However, after two years of full-time campaigning the campaign is stuck and Mr. Franken is the issue.
The Washington, D.C. establishment now rates this seat a republican hold and the Washington Post ranked it 10th out of 10 least likely to change. Politico.com has dropped this seat from the top 10 as of yesterday. In the latest well-respected Quinnipiac poll, Norm Coleman now has a 15 point lead.  And most troublesome is the poll’s finding that 20% of rank and file DFL voters say they will vote for Coleman.
It was out of this concern that I offered myself as an alternative in the primary election. Our family, particularly my father, Judge Miles Lord and my late brother, Jim Lord, have served our party and our state with dedication and distinction in elective office. Personally, I have been active in our party for 50 years and have donated generously of my time and money, as have you, to our party and our candidates. With this dedication comes a responsibility to act when necessary. This is that time.
My personal history is all Minnesota, born and raised, educated at the U of M, teacher of third grade and special education, Hamline Law School graduate, started my own law firm representing thousands of clients who have been victimized, volunteer and advocate for women and more. I was a lobbyist for MADD after losing my son to a drunk driver. I have a proven track record of commitment, advocacy, mediation, and negotiation. I know Minnesota and I know Minnesotans. I will be a good senator.
I fear that if Mr. Franken is at the top of the ballot in November, he has the potential to pull down our entire ticket losing winnable congressional seats and legislative seats as well. The republican attack machine is doing its work against Mr. Franken with blistering ads. New disclosures of negative information about Mr. Franken come drip by drip. Republican legislative candidates have begun to ask DFL candidates to return monies received from Franken and to disavow him based on his tax problems, pornographic writings and offensive humor. His return to Minnesota after a 36 year absence opens him up to charges of carpetbagging. And this is only the summer. What is to come in the fall will be devastating.
Our campaign is now moving. I have had a great reception everywhere I have gone, our TV and radio spots will begin airing next week and our web presence is being taken over by a top firm. Time is short but I believe that by Sept. 9 DFL voters will focus on the electability issue as their primary concern.
This is now time to act. If you agree that the Franken candidacy is in deep trouble and may hurt our entire ticket, please join my campaign. I do not run against Al personally but I believe the Coleman seat is ours for the taking if we have a candidate without the baggage Al is carrying.
I welcome your input and support.
Sincerely,
Priscilla Lord Faris

I think that Priscilla Lord Faris [DFL] should have informally joined forces with Jack Shepherd for Senate (GOP).
Jack Shepherd would have been a collection point for the disenfranchised [GOP] and other voters;
Priscilla Lord Faris would have been a collection point for the disenfranchised [DFL] and other voters;
[I realize that there is also an Independence Party Primary.]
Votes for not-so-well-funded candidates could be seen as protest votes.
Seeing ads about BOWLING ALLEYS when there have been Minnesotans killed and/or severely wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan!
Money ($$$) buys bowling alleys?
There are no “write-in” ballots for USA Senate candidates from MN for the primary elections, however, it is possible to have them in the November 2008 elections.

If only MNpublius would bother posting Jack Shepherd stuff. I hate to say we’re above that, but we are.

Michael is not above anything, he proves that day in and day out….

That’s because MNPubless has no balls. Most of the people there are about as exciting as Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
And that Aaron person, well…someone just need to kick his head in for being such a whiny wimp. I bet Sean Whalen could bend Aaron into a pretzel without skipping a beat.

Farris sort of sounds like the type of person who also doesn’t know how to pay taxes.

Lord Faris has pretty well figured it out—wonder when Melendez and the rest of them will figure it out. They have a loser on their hands and there is nothing they can do about it short of getting Franken out ala Jon Grunseth. At least the GOP was smart enough to save the election by putting Arne Carlson on the ballot with about 10 days left and he was elected to two terms.

Priscilla Lord Farris: Sounds like what most limousine liberals would name their kids.

Well, I know Lord Ferris will get my parents votes. They are foaming-at-the-mouth Democrats but will not vote for Franken.
I think my Mom put it best: “Potty mouthed New Yorker.”

Priscilla Lord Faris DID what the COLEMAN-APPROVED ad stated.
The three guys in the Bowling Tub: Bowler-butcher, Bowler-baker, Bowler-candlestick-maker, TALKED about running for USA Senate.
Priscilla Lord Faris actually DID IT.
The COLEMAN-APPROVED AD seems to want people to run for USA Senate.

let’s hope there is not a tsunami voter change in the dfl before the primary or lord faris might win and prove a much more formidable candidate for norm.
if you go to lord faris’ website and look at her qualifications, and compare them to franken, its like comparing a phd to a grade-schooler. i would not vote for her, but she has a much more traditional dfl-er resume that i think would keep moderate libs that will now vote for norm because of character, to vote for lord faris because she represents their values without all the baggage of franken.

Prissy knows that many democrats?
I doubt it. I bet she sent it to her dad and 11 of his friends.

She’s disappointed in Franken! I don’t think her spots have changed. I don’t know if she still owns rental property, but I know she did. Patricia was a slumlord. She sat in her exclusive Sunfish Lakes home and let her apartments go to ruin. No heat, no air conditioning, leaking pipes and that is only the beginning. Do we want someone this dishonest. I don’t!
