I am never one to demonize the positive role the democrats have played in driving good legislation. We need countering forces to have good government. But believing this does not change the extremely important and polarizing extremes that either the extreme right or left will take us. A voter has to look at the situation as it is presently and decide "if this candidate is going to address and back the fundamental issues that I believe in. I don't think today that anyone with a straight face can say the Republican Party is against the sick and disabled. We have turned the page on government involvement in healthcare. New treatments and better efficiency and technology has made it impossible to ignore some of are countries most glaring sufferings. Medicare part D is an example of expanding government to cover a most common treatment, prescription medicine. The democrats’ blocking this bill is sickening. Playing politics because they didn't want Bush to get the populous credit he deserved.

Hey, Lyndon Johnson was a great president in many ways and also obviously messed up glaringly. One glare is he should’ve taken a stand against Eugenics, but didn't. But I respect him and maybe I'm a minority but I think overall he was a good president. Also, Nixon passed much of are progressive laws through during a time when we needed these changes. Democrats today would bring back eugenic funded practices here in the U.S. as before this time under different guises that use the deficit as an excuse. They would tout positive eugenics.

Did you know alcoholism was deemed enough of a threat to sterilize people in many poor families? Family pedigrees were combed for mental illness and alcoholism as well as any other signs of what they considered at the time to be genetic diseases. That means to be fair under the eugenics “merciful programs” the Kennedy's would need a little sterilizing done. Looks terrible when it can apply to your heritage doesn’t it. Every family has genes that could be passed and expressed with other genes as illness. This it is just a part of being human. Government used to compile masses of personal information on family health to manage epidemics of "poverty and sickness to the national gene pool."

I know for sure that a pro-life Republican President would patently abhor and reject such government policies. Democrats would go along or even openly endorse such government. I think Republicans working with democrats are doing good work addressing the needy in this country. Of course much of the money is wasted and should be focused on what people actually need, freeing up and providing simple direct opportunities for self-determinism. If aid is needed then aid should be delivered to those who need it and not an excuse to create high paying government jobs and build nice new government human services buildings. This may sound harsh, but I'm looking at the truly sick person on the streets needs first.

Call me an animal.

If I could wave a magic wand all problems and suffering would disappear. I think many of us would do the same. We need freedom to live and create and have incentives to work hard or else we have a replica of the horrors of the Soviet Union on our hands. People it’s the system that was evil not the people. To be objective the system wasn't evil but inevitably incubates evil exponentially as it is emplaced. Let us not be naive and pretend people will work when they could rather sit at home or do things they aspire to when paid next to nothing and receive the same for not working. When it is not economical enough to work people won’t. It's common sense. Guess who suffers the worst then? The sick, disabled and elderly. That brings up the subject of euthanasia. Not attractive to most elderly.

Let us take the fact that we have large deficits to reprioritize just exactly what we need to invest in. I think America will find that we can have plenty of needs and opportunities met with considerably less wants. Starting with the most sick and in need and working are way up the latter in prioritizing. This doesn’t get a lot of the middle class screaming for joy. But if government can show that it is truly using tax money to take care of the needy and elderly than I think the middle class will be more tolerant and look to government middle class benefits they don't use need or even want to pay for middle class tax cuts. People we waste so much money on needless education programs for 3 year olds and could be using that many for better nutrition and low priced computers sold to low income and young adults. We could be doing so much better with our money. We need to take away the money from huge beauraucratic institutions for the poor and treat it more as a private business where the aim is to maximize every dollar into a higher standard of living for those who are at the bottom. It should discourage people having children just to increase benefits. It should help more single people get going before they fall into despair while being run through the belittling welfare system. Much of poverty is spiritual, when people feel good about themselves they clean their streets mow their grass and take pride in how they look and raise their children. They get outraged at crime that gives them courage to organize block groups local government, state and national government involvement on issues. They give tough love to "trouble makers" instead of pretending they are invisible and instead mete out tough love.

Much of welfare seems designed to break down people's pride in self and discourage them from working. It's almost as if they want more people dependant so they can build more buildings and create more good paying jobs for people who would work somewhere else if not provided. The incentives are misplaced and people know it, but what are people going to do? They can't do anything if they are the beneficiaries. In today's world we need a change. Obama would with all good intentions lead us down the utopian road to hell. Where the neediest suffer the soonest and the worst. This is communism and again we must call it what it is and fight against it even though it may be politically incorrect and uncomfortable.

DJZ said: "we democrats also believe its the role of the government to take care of the poor, sick, and disabled."

If that's true then why do cities like San Francisco, which is arguably the most liberal city in America, also have an extremly high homeless rate?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Democrats use the poor for votes.

So giving a few thousands to leadership that will ensure millions will have health care, access to higher education and job skill trainings and other things that help end the cycle of dependency- then it was a hell of a deal.

So..where does the money come from for all this crap?? Thin air perhaps?? Good thing they don't have a tax on BlowHard Douchebags with all the Common Sense of a Dog Turd or DJ Jazzy Potato Head would be a Republican.

Republican economic policies have been a huge failure, you’re paying more in taxes and your home is worth less. Win Win right?

Care to provide any specifics on that?? Who has been in control of Congress for the last 2 years??(Which just strangely coincides with the economic downturn). Who is unabashedly the party of Tax the Living Hell out of Everyone and Expand Government?? Who is in control of the House right now?? You know..the dried up old bitch that put aside her duty to the people to go out and try to sell her pathetic book??

Obama is going to be the next President

Great SCOT!!!

You Pubbies are working it overtime. It was a fundraiser. You had them all the time when people liked your candidate.

The continue the government talk, we democrats also believe its the role of the government to take care of the poor, sick, and disabled. To enforce compliance and protect us.

So giving a few thousands to leadership that will ensure millions will have health care, access to higher education and job skill trainings and other things that help end the cycle of dependency- then it was a hell of a deal.

What doesn't make sense is when you give money to candidates so you don't have to pay any more money in taxes but, because Republican economic policies have been a huge failure, you're paying more in taxes and your home is worth less. Win Win right?

Obama is going to be the next President and you can cry all you want. Next time, nominate someone your party actually likes. Hard to get volunteers for a guy you don't like or trust to stick to the conservative agenda.

I'm not a legislative assistant in the Capitol anymore, but when I was there years ago the starting salary was $27,500. It cost more to have dinner with Obama yesterday. Sounds to me like Democrats really are the party of the rich and use the poor for their votes.

DJZ Says: Not a governing principle like the REPUBLICANS adopted back with Wm McKinley in 1898 and continued on for 110 years. A party for corporations, by corporations.

Seems to me corporations’ hedge their bets according to who they think has the best chance of winning. Whatever party in power gets lots of big corporate money regardless.

I don't see what's so bad about receiving private-sector dollars. It's not as if the goverment doesn't deeply regulate corporations. And remember the government prints the money. Just think about that for a moment, honestly.

In addition, since the Federal government, State, county and city budgets fund vast amounts of "resources" to corporations in many, many creative ways as well as the obvious, up front transparent taxation.

I don't see a serious distinction in today’s world between goverments and private corporations. Considering this, then it seems to me government has an overwhelming strangle hold on big corporations as well as "non-govermental organisations"(many of whom own and manage large swaths of conservation trust-lands). Can you say Fannie May and Freddie Mack? I'm not even sugesting that heavy governments' dependance using cheaper private sector corporations is all bad, but this divide and conquer crap DJZ is so, old and so, tiresome. You must think people are stupid. People know that it is painfully obvious that government entities and private corporations are joined at the hip. Government is supposed to have a major role regulating the economy, and believe me it does! By the way the Federal Reserve is "private." Now tell me why it is so bad to want government to loosen its stranglehold operating from Washington D.C. Operating ruthlessly our lives and corporations in these contiguous United States and the 2 non-ones? You see DJZ if a person or private entity messes with you, the government through many instruments can regulate these people or business's. On the other hand a team of a high powered lawers or advocacy non-profits, or some pass the buck, shoe string budgeted, impotent and biased advocacy govermental office's "help.", gives a person a chance in heck to stand up and fight a the goverment entity. So, it would seem to me, since only human beings (juries out on extraterrestrials), with all the same human instincts, work for corporations and government that if you were concerned about the average person, that you would want to curtail the government’s share of the peoples' money.

Now you might bring up that individual freedoms have been compromised under Republican leadership (much less then Britan), this is a red herring. Democrats vastly are the ones whose philosophy of governance takes away individual liberties in favor of the "common good". So that doesn't fly. Can anyone say Eugenics?

Sorry to let you know, but today in today’s super high technological world's, communications driven economy, very little is divided between Big Government and Big corporations. The Government is almost like top-management to large corporation-subsidiaries. One party prefers decentralized "management" the other a Hugo Chavez method of "management"

Now, what is good about Republicans is they fight for the under-dog. Democrats support the already landsliding winning side, big government. Look at D.C. the last election 85% voted for Kerry. One party rules the D.C. electorate. Also, that winning percentage would make any despot country's leader smile (maybe not grin, but at least, smile.) You Democrats have plenty of representation believe me.

No party today is against a large government. But the Republicans want to have a separation between private and public sectors'.

You Democrats don't even want people to have access to school vouchers when Rockin' Obama’s Germany has a competitive system of private schools. In fact I think they are all private. Of course it is fully funded with government money and is "free".

In health care Switzerland uses public monies' to fund a private sector health care system.

I'm amazed at liberals’ (it's okay to use the word liberal today, without offending people, right?) lack of basic common-sense. I had a Sociology teacher who would tell his class about how life was and would be so much better living as cave people because you didn't and wouldn't have to punch a clock! Just meditate on this idea for a moment. He also taught us that "well off peasants" during feudal Europe had a higher standard of living then the average person today. Due to that they didn't have money (the root of all evil), but instead, bartered in trades and services. He didn't even understand that grain was used as currency. It was a staple food and was bagged and used for flexability as a crude make shift currency. Just meditate on that for a moment. Why do you think this was so? Also we had to read a nice little tidbit by some very well known social science Marxist (that off hand I can't remember)on how man is so over burdened today. And he implied strongly using flowery lanuage that animals have more freedom than us unlucky modernized weighed down humans. Now think about that for a moment.

Now, considering all this, why would anyone save those who may be hopeful of being accepted into that small new-world-ordered-elite and ruling class, created after a hypothetical revolution, vote for a party that pushes so hard for a world the Democrats would create for us eventually if given enough power?

"Chestnut Says:
August 7th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
“Living of the government dole is welfare moms with 6 babies from 9 different fathers.”
Make that 9 babies from 6 different fathers?"

That's a classic "AFDC" scam by welfare chronics. They "welfare queen" would explain that there were multiple potential fathers and that she didn't "remember" their full names or addresses. This makes it difficult to establish paternity and collect child support, which would mostly go to the state if the mother is on welfare.

Meanwhile the "uncles" give unreported "gifts" to the welfare mother to keep her from "remembering" who the father might be.

Working for the government is honorable. No democrat slams that.

Yeah, kinda takes the mystery out of how the military vs. government employee ratio of GOP/DNC is inversely proportional.

And yes, I do realize the military DOES 'Work' for the government. And I've surely heard No democrat slam that...Kerry, Reid, Murtha, Durban, Pelosi..Wait, did I say that out loud??

I am a Democrat. I don’t have a problem with the governemnt helping out its citizens when they need. Why don't you spend $5,000 on the needy then? Pay an extra $5,000 in taxes?? Oh wait, you spent your surplus $5,000 on a loser...Or is that deductible?

Working for the government is honorable. No democrat slams that. Yeah, good work if you can get it. I think getting ELECTED to a position can be honorable....getting on the tit by being a toady for the right candidate and doing a shitty job because you're held to the lowest of standards is pathetic. I think, if in the very unlikely event, UberBama gets in, your $5,000 signed portrait will get you an 'in' as the Blue Earth dog catcher. Good luck with that.

One more time for the short bus riders:
I am a Democrat. I don't have a problem with the governemnt helping out its citizens when they need. I don't beleive we need to eliminate a system because a few abuse it, we should go after the abusers. Working for the government is honorable. No democrat slams that. However, Republicans rip these public employees every damn chance they get until its one of theirs. Well, that's where I point out the irony.

They very government you want to shrink has given us a John McCain and Tim Pawlenty for that manner. Mexico gave us Romney.

Am I the only one who thinks it's crazy that ZERO press would have reported on a senatorial candidate being roughed up and tossed from an event?

"He doesn’t get the Presidency. He doesn’t get to pretend like his character is not of issue here. It is. He doesn’t get to escape questions on his judgment, temperament and values because yes, the Presidency is more than an award for past deeds, its about the future of this country."

Oh good, so you don't think Obama is fit for the Presidency either.

"He was also given and a congressional seat, Senate seat and national credibility."

Funny, and here I thought the citizens of Arizona elected him to those positions.

You see that's the difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Democrats believe everything is "given" to people. Republicans earn what they have.

No, I know how much he married into while spending his career on the govt dole. However, let us not forget that Kerry was able to go into public service because he had his own money from family blood.

He also at least waited a few years after the divorce to Julia before moving on the Teresa. Ol' Johnny Mac was on the prowl right after coming home from Nam. Click here its not pretty though

Barack Obama seems to be the Democratic Candidate, not Kerry.

"Living of the government dole is welfare moms with 6 babies from 9 different fathers."

Make that 9 babies from 6 different fathers? 8)

For that matter, folks living off the government dole include the 40 percent of Americans who pay no income taxes, yet consume gov't services... and particularly the 25 percent who pay no taxes, but file a return and get a refund.

"while spending his entire life on the government dole?"

The government dole huh?

I guess if you consider serving your country as a pilot. Spending years in a POW camp. Then serving in the Senate as "living on the government dole".

Living of the government dole is welfare moms with 6 babies from 9 different fathers.

Whoa Pete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you just exclude McCain from the limo crowd?
Do you know how much money he married into while spending his entire life on the government dole?

A great example you are of the ignorant mass the republican count on to do their bidding while their rich supporters are the ones who really benefit. But, you get to feel good about the Pro-life thing (though with a GOP white house, Congress and USSC they did nothing to change it) and knowing that capital gains won't be taxed.

Man, you're a serf and don't even know it.

"Nice to see that the wealthy left is segregating people according to their wealth."

LOL! If there was any justice, the campaign would have begun taking the stickers from the high-end and redistributing them equally among the low and middle end.!!!

I love how you half twits try to do this. Its a political event. Not a governing principle like the REPUBLICANS adopted back with Wm McKinley in 1898 and continued on for 110 years. A party for corporations, by corporations.

Get real. or not. We're going to crush your asses.

Nice to see that the wealthy left is segregating people according to their wealth. Sounds like the Democrat party is the party of the rich. Must be because they do so many favors for all those rich folks while screwing over the poor working class guy. Thank God McCain and Coleman are going to stop those limosine liberals in November.

Chesty,
There were three levels, $1000, $5000 and 28,500(which is the max one can give directly to a campaign fund). I was in the $5000 group who got pictures taken with the candidate and a little conversation (he won't be picking Joe Lieberman for VP). I'll probably go to Chicago or LA for a big event and then have dinner or whatever. Its about making sure Obama has enough dough to beat back your brethren Chestnuts not the meal.

Everybody was on the same floor so you saw everyone. We all had stickers with little color codes that indicated what level. The events were photo, then the general, then the dinner.

Everybody was at the general then afterwards some went through a door for the meal. I talked with Franken, his daughter and his wife. However, I didn't see him, go through the door after the general event. Even if he did was asked to leave, it would have been a short conversation and that's it.

Secret Service does not check lists for names. Staff does. Secret Service does not deal with event details- only security and safety. Not having the right sticker is not their deal since EVERYBODY was searched and vetted before advancing up to the floor with the three events.
