A NEW TEAM FRANKEN STRATEGY: BLAME THE MEDIA FOR A CAMPAIGN IN DISARRAY

By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 11, 2008

During an interview with Professor Larry Jacobs of the Humphrey Institute this morning, WCCO’s Esme Murphy wondered whether the media was to blame for the troubles consuming Al Franken’s campaign. It’s unlikely that Murphy came up with this theory by herself (See update below). This could be the beginning of a new theme for Team Franken, as they try to gain sympathy with the media by blaming them for the negative coverage Franken has received.

It’s pitiful that Team Franken may be trying to blame the media for the fact that Franken isn’t catching on with Minnesotans. The reality is that Minnesotans are rejecting Franken, not because of the media’s coverage of the race, but because Minnesotans just don’t like Franken.  His failure to pay taxes, his failure to provide workers’ compensation insurance for his corporation’s employees, his pornographic writings and his appalling jokes about rape have damaged Franken’s standing with Minnesotans.

A new Team Franken strategy of blaming the media for their problems would be another sign their campaign is in serious trouble.

UPDATE: Esme Murphy has a responded to my post. In her post, she states that she came up with the question herself.  I appreciated Murphy’s sending me her post and I’ll have more later this week on Minnesota Democrats Exposed.

Beyond all that, Franken doesn’t have a message that resonates with anyone except the ultra-retarded DFL base. The FarmFest debates where the best Franken could do is regurgitate bologna talking points is a fine example.

Moreover, Franken is on the wrong side of all the important issues. He’s for increasing the cost of energy. He’s against success in Iraq. And he’s in the pocket of union thugs who want to suppress employees’ right to free, private and fair elections.

Franken is an imported candidate with an imported campaign staff operating with over 80 percent contributions from out of state. Is it so tough to understand why Al Franken is wrong for Minnesota?

Wow, did you run out of material? Way to just make stuff up.

Blaming the media is a win win tactic which Republicans have used for years. It’s basically a form of working the refs. That said, the idea of media bias has been out there for quite a while and it requires no particular powers of intellect to enable Esme apply it to the Franken campaign.

A blaming the media strategy has never been an indication that Republicans are in trouble. It always has been an integral part of their strategy. I don’t think it is for Demcrats either.

  5. PlymouthDem Says:
    August 11th, 2008 at 7:50 AM

You think this is a Franken strategy because WCCO asked a professor about media bias? Are you freaking kidding me? What, is it clear to you that Franken planted the question as well?

I’m sorry Michael. I think I missed something in this story. Does Esme Murphy work for Team Franken? Does Professor Larry Jacobs work for Team Franken? The key sentence appears to be: “It’s unlikely that Murphy came up with this theory by herself.” What is your basis for making that statement? Is wild ass speculation your new journalistic standards for posting a story. Seriously? With a straight face you can announce a new Franken strategy based on a conversation between Larry and Esme? Unbelievable.

    hiram:

The problem with the media is since’s it’s biased you don’t see the problem. In 2004 the person who John Kerry was using to show he was heroic could not rebut one of the major charges the swift boat veterans made (Kerry’s boat fled in a battle) and the media tried to use him to help save Kerry when if you read the statement this vet made he was underwater and trying to stay underwater along with a comment he didn’t know where he was. If this was a lawsuit the lawyer on the swift boat side asks, “If you’re underwater how do you know the movement of the boats on the surface?”

    That explains the media bias.

If this had been a republican it would’ve been front page everyday until the Republican had withdrawn his nomination.

Hope that explains to you media bias Hiram.

Good job BrodKorb, but I’ve caught a story from my sources that beats yours and is just as credible:

COLEMAN GOES TO SPACE TO SPEAK WITH MARTIANS ABOUT HOSTEL EARTH TAKEOVER!

It seems that Senator Norm Coleman did not have any public events this Sunday, which couldn’t mean anything other than a conversation with Aliens! The Senator is suspected of having received money from the Kill All Humans PAC committee at a private fundraiser on the moon. The dinner reportedly concluded with talks of the December attack plan and the new Juggernaut Death Ray.

Danno, you have another typo. It’s Brodkorb not BrodKorb.

None the less, you are guilty of deflecting a story with typical liberal crapola.

  11. Discontented DFLer Says:
    August 11th, 2008 at 9:58 AM

While I disagree with the concept that the DFL base is retarded, I do agree they were starstruck when they thought he’d be the better candidate. Franken is going to get eaten alive; he should drop out and pass his funds over to candidates who actually have a chance at getting elected.

How much has Franken spent to date, and his poll numbers are still that far down? Even taking into account his staff (and I know some of them both personally and professionally) and their respective ineptitude, it says something about him as a candidate. It says something that, for the first time, I will not be voting for a DFL candidate (assuming he lasts that long).

    Walter,

when you question Kerry’s service and his medals you are questioning every man and women who was injured in battle and received the Purple Heart. Do you really hate America and the troops that much?

(Wild speculation seems to be the pattern in this blog/thread, I am sure you don’t hate the soldiers but I just wanted to throw some of my own wild speculation out there.)

    Just e-mailed this, to Esme:

Hey, Esme! Take a look at what Michael Brodkorb sad about you, over on http://www.MinnesotaDemocratsExposed.com !

The thread is called: “A New Team Franken Strategy: Blame The Media For A Campaign In Disarray”, and this is what Michael said:

” It’s unlikely that Murphy came up with this theory by herself.”

Kind of makes you wonder what kind of advice he’s giving Paulsen, doesn’t it?

    Your pal,

    TPT

  16. Chestnut Says:
    August 11th, 2008 at 7:17 PM

Walter, questioning Kerry’s medals is a non-starter and a waste of time. Ridiculous that questions over Kerry’s conduct devolved into such a petty distraction.

I agree with you on a lot of issues, but dredging that stuff up serves nobody well.

The legitimate questions about Kerry’s conduct are focused on what was likely his dishonorable discharge. We’ll never know the truth of that, because Kerry refuses to release his records… but the time line of his “discharge” fits. He likely was dishonorably discharged for his dishonorable conduct as a Navy officer upon his return from Vietnam. He lied to Congress; he consorted with the Viet Cong in Paris and returned to push their agenda in Washington; he participated in meetings where the group he was a leader within conspired to kill U.S. Senators… among other facts.

John Kerry is a fraud and a phony, unfit for command. But questioning his purple hearts is a major distraction.

  17. Walter Says:
    August 11th, 2008 at 9:23 PM

Okay folks lets discussion this seriously:

    Barbark:

The battle I described was on March 13, 1969. Your attachment was some other battle. Furthermore if Kerry was engaged in what he did in the battle in this battle he failed to tell the commanders what he was going to do. I think that shows very bad command skills. Thank you for helping to prove my point on Kerry!

The person who I mentioned was Jim Rassmann who helped Kerry win Iowa that year which started Kerry to the nomination. Rassmann wrote a piece for the Wall Street Journal (sorry I don’t have the ability to link Rassmann’s piece). Rassmann was trying to say that Kerry didn’t flee the battle! Rassmann was trying to say that Kerry saved his life even though he didn’t know another boat was about to save his life. For Rassmann to be believable he would have to be on the surface to see the movements of all the boats. Yet by his own admission in the piece he was underneath the water trying to avoid the boats and trying to stay underwater as long as possible.

Keep in mind you’re responding to post #7. I’m pointing out that the media in the way they were trying to use Rassmann to help Kerry all overlooked such an obvious and simple question. “If you’re underwater how do you know the movements of all the boats?”

    Yoni:

I love America! Based on your comment you’re the person who doesn’t love America. Do you want to build a moment to George Custer or Benedict Arnold in Washington because they have great military service for the United States?

We can question Arnold’s service who did a lot of things to help us win the Revolution such as his role in the Key Battle of Saratoga which helped get France and Europe into the war to help us win because he committed treason! Kerry by appearing in front of a Congressional did things far worse than Arnold!

We can question Custer in part because in studying military tatics we study losing battles so future commanders don’t repeat stupid mistakes. Are you saying the instructors at West Point, Annapolis, and the Air Force Academy shouldn’t be allowed to teach what Custer did wrong so his mistakes won’t be repeated? Keep in mind questioning Kerry’s command skills was justified since he could’ve been given command of all the military forces from January 20, 2005-January 20, 2009.

Furthermore Yoni I don’t notice the same respect by the members of the left to the Armed Forces that you claim I should show.

They’re accused of doing torture, war crimes, being stupid, and a bunch of other things. It seems like once the left stops attacking the troops the way they have been for years with apparently no objection from you I’ll be open to
maybe apologizing to Kerry. Keep in mind Kerry is one of the biggest people doing these attacks!

    And Chestnut:

I’ve questioned just three things of Kerry’s record:

One, the first purple heart. The one that the Kerry’s spokesperson called an unintentional self-inflicted wound. I have indirectly questioned a silver star since it was won on March 13, 1969 on conduct which was has been disputed. Kerry used a rule that because he got three not two purple hearts he can leave Vietnam. Part of the problem is if President will he get us out of Iraq? Afghanistan? You have to question his desire to leave Vietnam to see what kind of President he might be!

Two, I’ve questioned the conduct in one battle (the March 13, 1969 battle) because of the reasons I cited in number one.

And three, I have right to question what he said and how he said it about the troops after he got out of Vietnam.

Don’t you care how he is bad mouthing the troops (my crime) in Vietnam let alone Iraq now?

  18. Tommy Johnson Says:
    August 12th, 2008 at 8:37 AM

Walter, so you think Kerry’s “bad mouthing” of the troops, is justification for questioning the validity of duly-authorized medals??!?

You must really hate America, and the troops, to be so (cheney)in’ warped.

  19. walter Hanson Says:
    August 12th, 2008 at 5:19 PM

    Tommy:

Read all the posts. I was being attacked! I was showing why Kerry’s record deserved to be examined.

Mind you this is the guy who got out of Vietnam with a purple heart he didn’t deserve (you’re the vet I thought you weren’t suppose to get purple hearts for self inflicted wounds)

Mind you I’m questioning Kerry because he fled a battle.

And I’m questioning Kerry for the statements he made about our troops. If you read the posts I had been accused of in number 13 of not showing the troops respect (aka bad mouthing) and just for the record I deny that I’m bad mouthing the troops.

    Regarding Walter’s post#17

Walter wrote: “if Kerry was engaged in what he did in the battle in this battle he failed to tell the commanders what he was going to do. I think that shows very bad command skills. Thank you for helping to prove my point on Kerry!”
Well since Kerry discussed the tactic with other boat commanders prior to employing it, and he was roundly applauded by his higher ups for using it, I guess the people that were fighting the battle disagree with your point (made from your computer chair in Minnesota nearly 40 years after the fact).

Walter went on to state: “Rassmann was trying to say that Kerry saved his life even though he didn’t know another boat was about to save his life.” Let me get this straight, Kerry DIDN”T deserve credit for saving Rassmann’s life because there was another boat that was “ABOUT TO SAVE HIS LIFE”

Wow! The Republican mind “at work”.

  21. Andrew Says:
    August 14th, 2008 at 12:07 PM

God you are a fucking tool. Make shit up, that’s all Republicans can do to win now anyway anywhere in the country. You cant win the presidency, you cant win moderate suburbia, you cant even win in the south anymore! (Bobby Bright is going to win AL-2 and Carmouche will win LA-4).

  22. Walter Says:
    August 14th, 2008 at 9:51 PM

    Barbark:

Rassmann was claiming that John Kerry saved his life and he wouldn’t be alive to write the piece he wrote, let alone campaign in Iowa to help Kerry if John Kerry hadn’t saved his life.

Sorry, but he was going to be saved! The question was who! If the other boat had picked up Rassmann the man who rescued him would be declared to be Presidential according to Rassmann’s logic.

And keep in mind in this battle the commanders of the other boats thought that Kerry had fled. Which meant he didn’t discuss tatics and tried something stupid.

    ANDREW:

Are you saying that Kerry didn’t appear in front of Congressional committee and said our troops in Vietnam committed war crimes. Are you saying that it was somebody else who said that if you’re dumb you wind up in the armed forced in Iraq?

The trouble with Democrats like you and Barbarak is that you flee the truth and think we lie when we tell it.
