WCCO’S REALITY CHECK CAN’T VERIFY FRANKEN’S EXCUSES FOR HIS TAX PROBLEMS
By Michael Brodkorb | August 15, 2008
“Franken tries to clear up confusion about his income tax problem, but what he calls ‘an honest mistake’ is unverifiable.
‘Al Franken. He gave speeches across the country,’ says the announcer in the Al Franken for Senate ad. ‘Instead of paying taxes in the states where he spoke, he overpaid taxes to the state where he lived. It was an honest mistake.’
IN FACT…
Franken won’t make tax returns public, so there’s no way to verify if he overpaid home state taxes. He blames an accountant’s error for mistakenly paying $917,000 in taxes to New York and Minnesota.” Source: WCCO-TV, August 13, 2008

“As the senator indicated to the National Journal and further articulated last Friday, he is paying fair market value for his cramped bedroom in a basement of a home in D.C. As our research shows, this rent is comparable to other rent in the D.C. area,” Steward said. (emphasis added)(Star Tribune)
Say, Michael?
You seen that “research” yet? No one in the press corps has seen it, either.
Why is that?

Nitpick all you want, but common sense says a 10×10 foot basement room certainly does not have a fair market value of a million dollars.
Once again Al Franken is proving he is a Big Fat Liar.

Are Norm’s tax returns public? Just asking…

Hiram:
Coleman hasn’t voluntarily had to say that he had to pay back taxes to 17 states. It seems fair that if he claims to have taken care of it to release the returns and show them.

Walter – Norm’s campaign spokesman said they had research proving the $600 a month rent was fair – where is it?
Or was Team Smokescreen lying?
August 15th, 2008 at 1:24 PM
Tommy,
Probably because the research is readily available. It’s called Craigslist. I typed “room for rent” into the search for D.C. and the results list everything from $500 – $700

bowhunt, Team Smokescreen’s paid smokeblower, Tom Steward, said “As OUR research shows….”
Now, reasonable people recognize what that means, without explanation. For you republiCon shortbussers, what paid smokeblower Steward said, indicates OWNERSHIP of the research – as in they did it, and they got it.
So, it’s real simple – they put up, or shut up. And if they shut up, everyone will know that Team Smokescreen lied.

Still waiting for you, Tommy, to put up or shut up on any of a thousand bullshit allegations you lie about daily.
What the heck is your problem, anyway. You lying sack of crap.

Doncha hate it, when Democrats act like republiCons, ChinNuts?

it seems like the libs keep getting back to norm’s room rent rather than franken’s tax problems, which this post was referencing.
as a cpa, i would have dumped franken as a client if he said it was my fault, and then not let me defend myself. he could easily waive his privacy rights to the extent that his former cpa could at least explain why he screwed-up or if it was franken’s problem for not reporting properly.
here is what i think happened. franken got all these 1099 forms from the sponsors of events where he was paid in various states. rather than provide the 1099′s to his cpa, he just gave the cpa summaries and did not break it down by state. as a tax preparer you can rely on what the client tells you. if franken provided the 1099 forms to the cpa, then the cpa made the mistake, but based on the complexity of tax software, i really find this dificult to believe. and, if he did give the cpa the 1099′s, then why not allow the cpa to admit he prepared it improperly rather than stonewalling????

You act like a first class asshole, Tommy. Nothing more.

If I skipped paying taxes in 17 states, do you think a “whoops” would absolve me? Yah, right.

If Angry Al’s CPA is at fault why doesn’t AA sue the CPA for gross negligence?
August 18th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
Say, jay? Because ol’ Smokescreen let his law-license lapse, and can’t practice anymore?
Just a guess.
Say, didn’t republiCon Ron go off on a rant at Madia about letting a law-license lapse?
If republiCon Ron did, it would make sense – no one is more of a (cheney)in’ hypocrite, than republiCon Ron.
A lot take a close second in the GreedOverPrinciples party, though….

WOW, I guess Norm is really going to need a law license in congress.
You really are a dumb-ass, Tommy
