LAWN SIGNS…GET YOUR FREE MCCAIN LAWN SIGNS
By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 18, 2008

I snapped this picture of my new McCain lawn sign today. Unlike the policy at Obama’s campaign of charging people for a lawn sign, McCain lawn signs are provided free of charge at offices across Minnesota.

YOU SAVED SEVEN DOLLARS!
August 18th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
North Oaks, Minnesota, a privately owned suburb-city of sorts, does not allow political lawn signs. Whether you bought them, or got them for free doesn’t matter.
Some private condominiums do not allow the flying of flags. This even applies to the United States Flag, the Minnesota State Flag,…
August 18th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
I did – according to the article from the Pioneer Press, Obama’s campaign doesn’t give away lawn signs for free, but rather they charge a fee.
August 18th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
You mean you didn’t have to “work something out”, work out a payment plan (“you, too, can have your Obama sign with just six easy payments!”)?
August 18th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
I might get one and perhaps give a “tip”.
A couple of days ago I was in the Midway area of St. Paul and there was an Obama vendor selling political material. I saw that a button costs $2.
I wonder if they require personal information like Angry Al Frankin did at the State Fair last year where all of these people who paid a couple of dollars for a button or sticker. Angry Al Frankin is claiming this huge number of “donors”.
Angry Al gets half his money from the Hollywood “Barbara Striesand” crowd. Golly, I wonder if the huge number of Angry Al Frankin’s supporters are ginned up from paraphernalia pimping requiring ID’s.

I have an idea for another freebie. Someone should photo shop a placard, maybe 8.5″ x 11″ that says something like “Angry Al Frankin’s campaign literature is not welcome here”.
It could have a picture of Angry Al Frankin and the red “no” circle with bar”.
At the bottom there could be text with Angry Al Frankin’s misdeeds there including Andy Rooney raping Leslie Stahl on 60 minutes.
It should be formatted to print on a single 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper with people at home encouraged to print their own copy and display them on doors or windows.
If your liberal/democratic/progressive neighbors ask/object you can ask them when they condone and tolerate rape, even in jokes or parody.
The design and wording of the sign might need a bit of tweaking but the idea seems valid and it’s not recorded and zero cost since you print it yourself.
August 18th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
You should NEVER HAVE to Pay of a lawn sign. If you want to make a donation fine but you should not have to give them money. No matter what!!!!!!
August 18th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Rent-a-lawn sign, lease-a-lawn sign, your own lawn sign kit, rent-an-apartment sign, etc.
Lighten-up John!
There are FREE, AIR WAVES, and then there is the government selling, renting, etc. those air waves.
August 18th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
These posts are lame, can we return to the trashing of Franken????
August 18th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Rumor is in CD 5 the McCain camp is paying people 10 dollars to put their sign in your lawn. As of this evening, no takers! It would take me at least 50 dollars!
August 18th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
How embarrassing it will be for McCain when he can’t get as many free signs in the ground as Obama is going to have signs that people had to pay money just to use.
August 18th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
There has always been a huge Lawn Sign Disparity where Democrats are more interested in telegraphing their political views. Curious that down here in Eagan, I have seen exactly one Franken Lawnsign, at the corner of Pilot Knob and Lone Oak. Plenty of Saarvi Signs and Obermueller signs, but Franken, just one.
When I drive up into Minneapolis, I dont see many, either. The many Nelson-Pallmeyer signs came down, but the Franken signs did not go up.

Out here in Dist20A all I see is Mike Bredeck signs. All over. Hundreds of them through out the district.
August 18th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
I have a better idea Greg Lang. How about we get a brain for “morans” like Greg Lang who can’t even spell “Franken”? I know it’s a tough one to spell, Greg, especially given how it’s a name that’s rarely seen on this blog. Go ahead and put your “Angry Al Frankin” sign up Greg. Show us all how smart you are. In fact, you know who you remind me of Greg? One of the most popular Republicans on the internet:

Mike Bredeck is going to WISH he had Aaron Peterson as an opponent this year.
Andrew Falk is going to trounce him, lawn signs or not.
August 18th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
SHOCKER: Franken lawn signs are free. Sound the alarm!
August 18th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
I think Lord Faris’ signs are free also. They will probably be a collector’s item when she wins the primary.
August 18th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Aaron: I think we have a lawn sign scandal in the works.
August 18th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
I see plenty of jeff Johnson signs in the western subs.

Ahh! Don’t you “love” those liberal progressive democrats like Jim Janos (BTW: Janos is Jessie Venturas “real” last name. hmm!) I observed this being a “moran” with a MENSA level verified IQ.
I try to spellcheck and Angry Al’s last name didn’t have a proper option. Sometimes, I intentionally misspelled things like names. It makes great “flame bait”. These liberal progressive democrats seem to always take this “bait”.
I live in the Longfellow neighborhood in Minneapolis. This is sort of the “Potemkin Village” of DFL politics. George Bush received under 20% of the vote here in both elections. I drive and bicycle around the neighborhood and try to observe the political signs. We had and still have the “forever” Wellstone signs but the only Angry Al Franken sign I’ve seen is a window placard put up six months ago. Weird!
When Paul Wellstone died in the tragic plane crash six years ago it seemed every other house had a Wellstone sign. I’d wager there are probably more Wellstone sign (especially inside windows) in my neighborhood than signs for Angry Al Franken. Minneapolis Longfellow neighbohood is a great place to live despite the libs. It’s great for bicycling whihc i good exercise. Also you can study thing from steet level while riding. For example, I can identify under 10% LCD/plasma TV use. It seemed every other house had a Wellstone sign after the tragic Wellstone plane crash.
Oh gosh! I guess I must be really stupid because I mispelled Angry Al’s last name. Perhaps I should compensate by referring to the dem candidate as “Angry Al” since this franken doesn’t show correct in spellchecker.
My observations aren’t scientific but I am a conservative living in the liberal/progressive/democratic “Potemkin Village”
80% liberal/progressive/democrats. It’s probably the best “middle class” in the US for dems.
I bicycle primarily for exercise http://bikemiles.com but I try to play “reporter” when I ride and observe the neighborhood. I might watch political lawn signs while pedaling
August 19th, 2008 at 7:49 am
If you have live in a duplex, would the Obama sign cost just 50 cents?
August 19th, 2008 at 8:11 am
“I live in the Longfellow neighborhood in Minneapolis. This is sort of the “Potemkin Village†of DFL politics.”
You ain’t a woofin’. I used to live in Longfellow (or The People’s Republic of South Minneapolis). Great location, but the hate politics is something else. You can run up to a few hang-outs on Lake Street and listen to the communists (that’s not hyperbole, they really are) rant and plot away.
What always amazed me about my neighbors in Longfellow was listening to them bitch about their taxes, yet voting for every levy that came along… they all sent their kids to Minnehaha Academy too, because they didn’t want their kids subjected to the failure that is the Minneapolis Public Schools…
August 19th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Highland Park, St. Paul, GOP signs are confiscated by order of the Politboro.
August 19th, 2008 at 8:52 am
They may be free… and yet, nobody but you seems to have them in their yards!
August 19th, 2008 at 9:16 am
PlymouthD – the reason why Obama has to charge for ‘em, is dirty-trickster-republiCons would take ‘em and toss ‘em if they were free.
But most republiCons are too (cheney)in’ cheap to let a few moths outa their wallets, and pony up a measely $8 for the cheap-trick.

That is an OUTRIGHT LIE. Cities can NOT ban political signs. Its in State Statute.
el presidente: Please provide the city ordinance that North Oaks (a legal jurisdiction) has used to ban campaign signs.
Oh, and by the way, private subdivisions can make these RULES, but a CITY can NOT. Try using a brain cell or two before you LIE to people.
August 19th, 2008 at 9:48 am
On lawn sign watch in the west burbs…..not one McCain sign yet. One bumper sticker over in Chanhassen so far. Obviously not many takers on the freebies yet.

Sorry Leroy but his trial lawyer boss is not very good. Andrew’s campaign would be headed downhill fast if it could go any lower. He is merely a puppet of his campaign manager – someone to help the lawyer with his wind energy investments.

The most popular lawn sign in Minneapolis is “Edina Realty”.
August 19th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Sadly very true, Newton.

I’ve driven though North Oaks, Minnesota several times during the political seasons and have never seen a political lawn sign.
I was told that the private property extends to the middle of the street and that the signs were not allowed.
North Oaks used to be James J. Hill’s farm. It is about a square mile in area.
James J. Hill built the Great Northern Railroad. The tracks run through North Oaks. Hill had two diesel engines for power to his barn.
The grandfather of some of people that I know [then children] used to hunt with James J. Hill.
I might know more Minnesota history than “D” might think.
If D wants to, (s)he can contact North Oaks, MN and find out for himself.
The first time I rode a “bone shaker” [a prototype of a bicycle] was in North Oaks, MN.
Telephone North Oaks. Find out if they had/have a history of not allowing political lawn signs.
August 19th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
No fishing in North Oaks.
[IF fishing were allowed THEN it would have to be open to the general public.]

………….POLITICAL SIGNS IN NORTH OAKS
“Members of Council discussed the issue of balancing first amendment rights and “North Oaks aesthetics” at their June meeting. Minnesota Statute does not allow a city to restrict the sizes or numbers of campaign signs posted from Aug. 1 until 10 days after the election.”
“According to City Attorney Newcome, the exemption does not refer to location, so cities may regulate the location of political signs.”
“In North Oaks, it is suggested the political signs be placed outside of road easements and setbacks. Residents who wish to put up political signs my legally do so but in the interest of North Oaks aesthetics, it is suggested that signs be located at least 60 feet from the center of the road, outside of road easements and setbacks.”
[From the City of North Oaks/North Oaks Home Owners Associtation, etc.]
—————————————
Perhaps I’ll receive an invitation from person(s) living in North Oaks to again visit them. That will enable me to drive through and check out at least some of the political landscape.

Where can I get these free McCain signs? In St. Paul?
September 9th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
I happily made a $3 donation for a McCain sign to display in our yard!

Obama pins and stickers are free.

Obama pins are free because he is a socialist.

We have been trying to get a McCain sign for a month….they are not available in our area yet. There are many, many people here in my town that are WAITING. I called the Republican representative in our capital and was told that they had so many calls coming in for the signs and that they are planning on having them available soon. (which should be about right now!)
Anyhow, people want them. At a festival in a community about an hour from here, the republican table was empty of all the Tshirts/bumperstickers, etc. and people everywhere you turned had them on. The Democrats table was stocked and no one wanted them.
