I’D LIKE MN PUBLIUS TO PROVE THEIR CLAIM THAT FRANKEN PAID HIS TAXES “ON EVERY PENNY HE’S EARNED”

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 25, 2008

In response to my post about a new campaign ad from U.S. Senator Norm Coleman’s campaign, Team Franken’s embedded blogger at MN Publius, Aaron Landry, published one of the most dishonest posts in the history of MN Publius.  I’ll have more on Landry’s dishonest post later today, but I wanted to respond to one specific item right away.

Team Franken’s embedded blogger at MN Publius, Aaron Landry, claims that Franken paid his taxes “on every penny he’s earned”:

“Al Franken pays and has always paid taxes on every penny he’s earned.” Source: MN Publius, August 25, 2008

Click here for the complete post.

I think it’s time for MN Publius to prove that Franken paid his taxes “on every penny he’s earned”. Landry also uses the most ridiculous language to describe Franken’s document tax problems.

WCCO’s Reality Check called Team Franken’s excuses about Franken’s tax problems unverifiable.”

“Franken tries to clear up confusion about his income tax problem, but what he calls ‘an honest mistake’ is unverifiable.

‘Al Franken. He gave speeches across the country,’ says the announcer in the Al Franken for Senate ad. ‘Instead of paying taxes in the states where he spoke, he overpaid taxes to the state where he lived. It was an honest mistake.’

    IN FACT…

Franken won’t make tax returns public, so there’s no way to verify if he overpaid home state taxes. He blames an accountant’s error for mistakenly paying $917,000 in taxes to New York and Minnesota.” Source: WCCO-TV, August 13, 2008

But Team Franken’s embedded blogger at MN Publius, Aaron Landry, must have found a way to “verify” a claim WCCO labeled as “unverifiable.”

I’m confident in writing that the dedicated readers of Minnesota Democrats Exposed would love to see MN Publius’ documentation that Franken paid his taxes “on every penny he’s earned”. Since MN Publius’ is claiming that Franken paid his taxes “on every penny he’s earned”, I’m sure they have the proof to back up his claim.

Any documentation to prove the claim that Franken paid his taxes “on every penny he’s earned” should be left in the comment section of this post.

Please check back to Minnesota Democrats Exposed for MN Publius’ documentation that Franken paid his taxes “on every penny he’s earned.”

I read that, too, but I just figured as Angry Al’s embedded blogger, Apologetic Aaron had actually been allowed to see all the information that Angry Al has been witholding (no pun intended) from the public.

Ya know, Michael - your indignant outrage might - MIGHT - have some credibility, had Team Smokescreen paid spokespeople not claimed “our research shows” Norm’s rent was fair-market (Tom Steward), and “I’ll get back to you about letting you see Norm’s utility bills” (Mark Drake).

Oh - and from the media folks I’ve talked to, Drake has NOT gotten back to them, despite his promise to.

Sweet, the fourth post from Eric Paulsen’s spokesperson dedicated to me!

Al pays taxes. Always has. Al pays workers comp. He’s fully paid up. Period. Nice attempt at a distraction though.

What do you find so funny about making an eight-year-old girl lie? Oh, I mean, what do you find so “hilarious” about making an eight-year-old girl lie? You just going to run away from that by trying to make another post about me?

    7. ansel Says:
      August 25th, 2008 at 3:09 pm

as usual tommy wants to talk about an unrelated issue.

so, back to franken’s unpaid taxes. i do not believe there is any dispute his corporation did not pay california taxes, nor were compensation taxes paid to cover his employees in new york.

as to his personal taxes, the libs like to say that he overpaid minnesota taxes and underpaid other states. prove it–let’s see a schedule of taxes paid for each state, then the credits and taxes paid to other states. state income tax rates are vastly different. did he pay the original taxes to low tax rate states, then only paid the higher rate states when he was caught? not to mention he probably saved thousands of dollars in preparer fees by only filing in 1 or 2 states when it should have been 15 or 20.

second, i would question how many years has he paid minnesota taxes in the last 5 years?

    8. Aaron Says:
      August 25th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

Oh crap, you totally caught me. Al Franken paid taxes on every cent that he earned. I said penny.

A release posted on MinnPost from the campaign:

Al Franken paid state and federal income tax on every cent he ever earned, right down to the 11-cent residual checks for re-runs of “SNL.” Due to an accounting error, he overpaid his state taxes in some states and underpaid them in others — but he didn’t benefit financially. As soon as he found out about the mistake, he immediately resolved it — even though none of the states where he underpaid ever asked for the money.

And Al showed some serious leadership tonight. His team found out about the error before the GOP did, he corrected it right away — then he offered immediate disclosure. And DFL delegates found out about it before they read it in the paper because this campaign put together a 100 person phone bank in an hour to tell them.

This is how a candidate should behave.

So yeah, I meant cent, not penny. Sorry. Was I there for the actual transaction? No. Did I get copies of the documents? No. But the IRS seems to be 100% happy with the situation. If Franken was guilty of anything don’t you think it’d be news? Well, Franken’s not guilty of anything so there isn’t news about it.

So yeah, what, you still want to distract away from making an eight-year-old lie? You folks are sick.

    9. ansel Says:
      August 25th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

let’s see: which has more credibility? a post from franken’s campaign propaganda, via mn publius, or wcco’s analysis?

obviously the eight-year old ad has been effective as you can see by the vitriolic response of the libs.

    10. AAA Says:
      August 25th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

Simple: He hasn’t really earned any of it. His acting was Ben Aflect awful, and that was before Aflect lowered the bar.

His radio show…. hm, yeah, a guy who screams hate and eats lunch on air, yeah, that’s really earning he paycheck.

His speeches…. see previous entry add in a little canned rhetoric that any liberal crowd would pay to hear and well, a statue of mickey mouse with a taperecorder would have sufficed.

Heck, Franken probably overpaid his taxes since he never did produce anything worth the millions he raked in.

(submitted to balance the humor used by leftist to defend this guy)

    11. Tommy Johnson Says:
      August 25th, 2008 at 3:21 pm

ansel, the issue that is in every one of Team Smokescreen’s attacks on Franken is HYPOCRISY.

Michael here is demanding proof from a blogger, when Team Coleman spokespeople go in front of the press and tell whoppers.

Spokesman Tom Steward told the press “our research shows” Coleman’s paying fair market rent, but then won’t show the research.

Spokesman Mark Drake told the press Coleman has been open and transparent, but then won’t show the press the utility bills in question; tells the press he’ll check and get back if Team Coleman will actually be open and transparent and show the actual utility bills.

GOPers attack Franken on unpaid taxes, yet the GOP Chair of the GOP Host Committee for the GOP National Convention cheated on property taxes for the property Norm rents, and last time I checked was delinquent on the property taxes for the property Norm rents.

It’s real easy to tell where a GOP scandal is; look “right” at the issue republiCons are bleating about and you’ll find it.

    12. Pete Says:

You can always tell when Michael has touched a nerve with the far left. Little Tommy jumps in and tries to change the subject. Poor little fellow feels left with Aaron getting all of the attention.

    13. Aaron Says:
      August 25th, 2008 at 3:31 pm

Heh. Touched a nerve? Look at the body of the original post!

    14. ansel Says:
      August 25th, 2008 at 3:32 pm

tommy finally goaded me into it. the biggest difference is that dfl-don and his wcco team found that franken’s ad about norm’s apartment was “misleading”; franken’s ad about his paying all his taxes was “unverifiable”.

if the libs cannot accept their own media’s conclusions, there is no reason to waste time and space responding to the uninformed.

    15. Tommy Johnson Says:
      August 25th, 2008 at 3:38 pm

Ansel, when a paid spokesman claims “our research shows” (Tom Steward) and then won’t show the research, what does that indicate to a bootlicker like you?

Wnen a paid spokesman claims that Norm is “transparent and open” about Norms utility bills, but then won’t show Norm’s utility bills, what does that tell a bootlicker like you?

C’mon, ansel - just what does that tell a bootlicker like you?

Except for paying taxes to at least 18 states that he evaded taxes to for at least five years.

      “Al pays workers comp.”

Except when he refused to for several years, until he was finally tracked down by the State of New York who levied substantial fines and penalties for failing to pay workers comp.

That’s quite an imagination you have there, Aaron — paid shill for Al Franken.

In a nut-shell he accuses others of what he is doing.
If you want a prime example of transference, watch his claim a topic, any topic or any post that mentions the name Al Franken and has to do with hard cold facts. He creates a smokescreen to deflect attention away from the topic then resorts to adolescent, childish name calling by saying “smokescreen” when in fact it’s Tommy who’s gulity of the smokescreen.

He is taking the political heat and it will only get hotter. Why don’t the big shots at the DFL demand he release his returns? They probably have so he must have legal problems that surpass his political problems. Catch-22 and Al has been caught.

The IRS has nothing to do with this. It is a state-tax matter for every state that has jurisdiction over Al’s income. Or maybe he didn’t report everything to the feds that he has been forced to report to the states once he was found out. Interesting dilemma. Poor Al.

I mean, if I paid 5 percent on my income, but I really owed 7 percent, I could still claim, as Aaron does, that I’ve paid taxes on every cent.

The fact is Al Franken didn’t pay the taxes he owed to the public to whom he owed the taxes. He’s a liar and a cheat.

Go eat some Cheeto’s Cheeto Boy…and dream up a few more attempts at distraction. It’s obvious you were dropped on your head as a child.

Oh yeah…Aaron, you can go eat Cheeto’s with Cheeto Boy. You’re dumb too.

Ann, you can try to team up with Scrotee all you want, but you’re not Scrotee’s type.

He’s into full-frontal male nudity. Ask him about the time he linked to it, here on MDE.

Better yet, just stop by Cheeto boy’s mom’s basement anytime…he’s proved that it’s male genetalia 24/7 down there. Fat boy wakes up with scrotii on his mind, and on his chin.

Just bring a big ol’ bag o’ hammmmburgers and you’re in like flint..right bag o’ goo? Right?

Only in your dreams, Scrotee. It’s a sick world, and you’re a happy guy.

5:30 am and fat boy is already thinkin’ about man sacks while rummaging under his matress for a stashed burger.

      24/7..just-like-I-said.

Your mom must just burst with pride everytime she brings down the first dozen happy meals of the day, Cheeto boy.

Tommy, you really need to get some mental help ASAP
with not only your problems with transference but you have some serious anger issues as well.

      My word..

      Are you…

RamseyRep, don’t bother seeking help; it’s way too late for a bootlicker like you.
