UPDATE: ALL SIGNS POINT TO PAWLENTY BEING NAMED AS MCCAIN’S RUNNING MATE

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 28, 2008

All public and private signs point to Governor Tim Pawlenty being named tomorrow as Senator John McCain’s running mate.  I’m prepared to be wrong tomorrow (and a little disappointed), but I’m going to bed thinking that it will be Pawlenty. If the choice is Pawlenty, I couldn’t be happier.

UPDATE: I’m waking up a very disappointed.  It appears that Governor Pawlenty will not be Senator John McCain’s running mate. This was always Senator McCain’s choice to make, but I’m disappointed that he didn’t pick Governor Pawlenty.  I’m waiting to see who he picks before I make any further comment.

Well McCain never was too bright, was he?

If it is Pawlenty will get a good feel of what’s it like to face a real press corp and not one that’s always kissing his ass.

I am actually excited about the prospects of Pawlenty being the VP nominee. The country would be fortunate to have him in that role.

a real press corp…what the hell. I’m never surprised, just constantly amazed by idiot libs.

I have seen that Plenty was a frontrunner for a long time. My only only remorse is that, if chosen Palenty was our only defense against “”Mad Mike” Hatch as Governor. On recent KSTP “Almanac” “Mad Mike” Hatch seems to have taken “his meds” but as frightening as it sounds almost became the Governor of Minnesota. Micheal and MinnesotaDemocratsExposed.com should get credit for preventing this political debacle.

Very important if Palenty is name VP candidate.

Well, I’d prefer you guys pick Romney, ’cause your southern redneck base will go apeshit crazy, but Pawlenty works just fine for the Democratic Party, too.

Well, Faux Fox News is now reporting it’s NOT T-Paw nor Romney; Dr. Evil Karl Rove is now talking….Palin?

Is that who the GOP is really gonna pick?

    10. Pete Says:

Karl Rove is not “now talking”, he is responding to questions as is the liberal hack they have on the show. Scares you doesn’t it to have a conservative woman on the ticket doesn’t it Tommy? She has at least as much experience as Obama does so left certainly can’t bash her because of her experience.

      Investigation dogs Alaska governor
      By STEVE QUINN – Aug 14, 2008

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Gov. Sarah Palin, a rising young GOP star mentioned as a possible running mate for John McCain, could see her clean-hands reputation damaged by a growing furor over whether she tried to get her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper.

A legislative panel has launched a $100,000 investigation to determine if Palin dismissed Alaska’s public safety commissioner because he would not fire the trooper, Mike Wooten. Wooten went through a messy divorce from Palin’s sister.

Palin has denied the commissioner’s dismissal had anything to do with her former brother-in-law. And she denied orchestrating the dozens of telephone calls made by her husband and members of her administration to Wooten’s bosses.

Palin said she welcomes the investigation: “Hold me accountable.”

Still, the allegations she abused her office could prove embarrassing for Palin, who got elected in 2006 on an ethics reform platform.
      ***

There’s more; but the point is it looks like she’d be a great pick and accruately represent why GOP now stands for GreedOverPrinciples.

Palin is a dangerous pick for Dems. I think it’s a bold move by McCain to try and get Hillary voters. Picking a woman was probably his only chance at winning this thing. Now, whether Palin turns out to be completely worthless I don’t know. Most people have never heard her speak, let along know what she stands for. But, that was the case with T-Paw as well.

    13. PlymouthDem Says:
      August 29th, 2008 at 8:11 am

Looking at her bio I think Tommy is wrong that ethics charges would stick on her. But, she brings one huge negative to McCain — it cuts the legs out from his “Obama isn’t experienced to be president” argument. 2 years as a governor? Before that, a sports reporter and some small time politics? It’s going to be hard to say that she’s more qualified than Obama or Biden to be president.

That said, she has some good qualities and would make things more interesting than a T-Paw or Mitt would.

    14. PlymouthDem Says:
      August 29th, 2008 at 8:18 am

Nevermind, Drudge says she’s sitting in Alaska. Unless McCain pulls some video conference announcement she’s out.

If he picks Lieberman you peeps are going to get drubbed. The conservative base will abandon you. Democrats won’t cross over. And, your ticket will look like grumpy old men 3.

Palin won’t affect 99% of Hillary’s voters - ever. Hillary was in it to protect - not decimate - women’s rights. Palin is anti-choice. If he picks her it’s going to also open up the “not ready to lead”, “inexperience” meme’s for the GOP side, too. Talk about neutralizing your ammo.

    17. RigthlyProud Says:
      August 29th, 2008 at 8:54 am

Funny how Dems want to think of themselves as the party that all women should flock to, but when a conservative woman rises to prominence they are so quick to beat her down. Is is possible that the “glass ceiling” is of their own making? Dems just can’t accept the fact that not all women are anti-life. Sad.

    18. Average Joe Says:
      August 29th, 2008 at 8:56 am

Hillary was in it to protect - not decimate - women’s rights.

You guys, all trying to be comedians. :)

Hillary was in it for one thing: Hillary.

And the idea only liberals care about the rights of people - women, men, people - is laughable. Just because someone doesn’t believe in killing babies or doesn’t believe in legislating special rights for those in one gender over another doesn’t mean they’re for “decimating” rights. Please.

I don’t think it was ever going to be T-Paw. I think it was an effort by the party to get him some name value for 2012 when they put forth a real ticket that can actually win. Same with Palin. They aren’t going to waste any viable candidates this year and not have them available for elections they can actually win.

McCain will pick another outcast that the party won’t miss when he’s tarred with the loser tag you get when you are attached to a losing Presidential campaign. It will be Ridge or Romney because they party can afford to lose them.

    23. RigthlyProud Says:

      Tommy,
I’m with you, nobody should have the right to dictate control over another’s body. That is why a pregnant woman has no right to dictate the death of the person she’s carrying. Joe is not the moron here.

    24. PlymouthDem Says:

“If anything, Palin’s experience equals Obama’s, so if they try to use that against her, it would just confirm that Obama is not ready to lead.”

How does it POSSIBLY equal Obama’s? She’s been governor less than 2 years. That’s about it. Before that it was minor politics and a SPORTS reporter. She has neither the education, real life experience, or political experience of Obama. And, EVEN IF they have the same experience, you can’t say “HE’s not ready” when your running mate would by nature not be ready either.

I think they needed a woman on the ticket. But, they needed one with some experience.

    25. Walter Says:
      August 29th, 2008 at 9:26 am

      Plymouth:

I think it only adds to how inexperience that Obama is.

She after all has real executive experience (something that Obama doesn’t have).

She has a track record remember her election for Mayor where she said she will cut spending and not only did she do that she lowered property taxes.

Obama last night talked about how he was going to be cutting lots of government spending. Sure that’s why he’s proposing spending that adds more than a trillion dollars to spending. I don’t think Alaska’s budget has had that type of explosion.

I’m surprise last night Obama talked about making abortions rarer and here is a woman who carried to birth a child that will have Downs Syndrone. Obama is all talk and nothing real on cutting down abortion.

i hope it is palin and not whitman. palin is dynamite. a little short on experience, but has more than bho so they can hardly criticize her for that. actually has as much as hilary having actually run a couple of governmental entities for a few years.

she rocks–more conservative than mccain; strong on the economy; weaker on foreign affairs. a great complement to mccain if she is “the one”.

and, if she is “the one”, she takes the momentum away from bho almost immediately.

i’ve gone from mediocre support for mccain when i thought it was pawlenty to reaganesque support for mccain now that he has selected palin.

Wrong. What it does is impede McCain’s ability to point that fact out. I’m the first to admit that “experience” is Obama’s weakest point. But, when you bring in someone with less experience to be your backup… especially when you are older than dirt itself, you can’t exactly go after Obama for not being ready to be president.

Woman on the ticket was a wise move. But, this woman probably is not who should have been. What it means, however, is that the GOP will probably have a viable challenger 4 years from now and it won’t be T-Paw.

      Lets look at Obama’s experience:

      * A community organizer. That’s somebody who knocks on the door and asks for money.

      * A state senator who votes present in order to avoid taking difficult positions.

      * A US Senator who walked away from the man who was trying to do ethnics reform.

      * Obama people might think is qualfied because he can give a great speech, but I’m sorry to say Sarah Pallin who obviously had less lead time to put together this speech than Obama had for his nomination speech is giving a far better speech.

Sorry Plymouth Democrat, but Sarah is far more qualfied to be President than Obama is.

I wonder if Pawlenty and others were used by the McCain camp in an attempt to steal some of the news coverage away from the democrats? And if that was the case, did the republicans do the same thing with Romney, Ridge, and the others on the “short list”?

If so, it’s not a bad strategy - the reporters around here couldn’t get enough of Pawlenty. McCain probably got as much press as he could have, at a time when most of it was going to go to the democrats anyway.

      Walter, from my last post:
Got into public service to help those who are seen as the least among us. He valued that calling over financial success, and has stuck with it. Nothing in his public life shows him to be different. Now, for the purposes of this award winning blog, here’s your specific laundry list.

      * Senator Obama’s successfully fought for children’s health care in Illinois.
      * His success bringing Republicans and Democrats together (a huge selling point for me in general) on bills such as the one in Illinois requiring police interrogations and confessions to be videotaped.
      * His leadership on ethics reform in Washington (the bill that lobbyists and special interests are complaining about right now has his name on it).
      * His bill to make the federal budget far more transparent and accessible to Americans via the Internet — we could use that openness in Texas.
      * And his vital work with Republicans to lock down nuclear weapons around the world.

    44. DJZ Says:
      August 29th, 2008 at 2:40 pm

She is a true conservative- which is what McCain needs.
She is a true ethics reformer- which Washington needs.
She is not a womens issue candidate.
She is not experienced at a quarter of Obama’s experience.

Experience is not an issue anymore. With McCain being 72 and having two fights with cancer, I’ve got to wonder if she is really ready to take the helm.

Being able to be a great communicator is very helpful in getting your agenda passed Walter. Ask Ronald Reagen about going to Berlin and working with a Democratic Congress to win the Cold War.

If I was a conservative, I’d be a little cautious in that I like her for her social stance but, can she strengthen the ticket beyond the base (which the nominee should have had in the first place).

How much does VP’s matter in elections?
