MCCAIN PRESS RELEASE: “MCCAIN CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCES MINNESOTA CITIZENS FOR MCCAIN COALITION”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 28, 2008

ST. PAUL, MN — U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced the Minnesota Citizens for McCain coalition. Citizens for McCain is an organization within the McCain campaign for people who put country before political party and support the candidate for president who has a proven record of bipartisanship.

“I have an obligation to do what I think is best for our nation regardless of political party,” said Senator Joe Lieberman when he invited fellow Independents and Democrats to join Citizens for McCain. “My love for this country and strong belief in John McCain’s character, judgment, and willingness to work with leaders of both parties has convinced me to support him for president.”

Former First Congressional District Democratic Congressman and Independence Party Gubernatorial candidate Tim Penny, Chairman of Minnesota Citizens for McCain, participated in an event with national Citizens for McCain leaders on Monday, August 25th at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

“With Barack Obama we have rhetoric, and with John McCain we have a record of accomplishment,” Penny said at the press conference in Denver. “That’s why I believe many moderate Democrats and the vast majority of independent voters in this country will find John McCain is the kind of leader we need.”

Lisa Sisinni, former President of the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce, added, “Throughout the primary season, I supported Hillary Clinton. I’ve never voted for a Republican presidential candidate, but this year is different. I’m voting for John McCain.”

Interesting mix of folks…I think the Penny endorsement goes a long way towards helping McCain. He’s about the only actual independent activist in this state.

    Independent activist?
What has he done? Lost race after race? Hell, Ole Savior has done that.

The last time Penny was relevant is when he was a DFL Congressman. Since then he’s been a washed up has been reaching for significance. That list of nobody’s will be about the level of support McCain gets outside of the hardcore Republicans who were just trashing his unloyal ass three months ago.

Ziggy calling anyone irrelevant is kinda like a psych-ward patient calling someone Ziggy.

From the same Aug 25 press conference…

When asked whether he thought Pawlenty would make a good running mate, Penny said:

“I don’t think he’s had a very remarkable record as governor. He focused mostly on easy issues and popular issues and this is a step up and I’m not sure he’s as well prepared as others for this step up but it’s McCain’s choice to make.”

Not exactly a ringing endorsement. If you put a high value Penny’s endorsement of McCain, you can’t dismiss his disdain for Pawlenty.

Wow. When you’ve got star power like Steve Wenzel, Sandy Keith and Joe “Don’t call me Dino” Ciccarelli on your side, can Mick Jagger, Bill Clinton and Jesus be far behind?
