WHO WILL MCCAIN PICK TO BE HIS VP?
By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 28, 2008

This post has nothing to do with exposing Minnesota Democrats, but there are conflicting reports as to whether Senator McCain has selected his running mate.
As a delegate to the Republican National Convention, everybody should know who I want McCain to pick. Who do you think Senator McCain will pick to be his running mate? Please leave your answer in the comment section of this post.
UPDATE: Marc Ambinder is reporting that Governor Pawlenty is canceling interviews for the day…
UPDATE #2: FOXNews is reporting that Senator McCain has selected his VP, but he hasn’t notified the pick.

I like Tim a lot but I have to sound off for Romney. He has positive National Exposure that far exceeds Tim’s from the strong (but not strong enough) bid for the nomination. Furthermore, Mitt plays well in the Southwest, where the Democrats are targeting, as well as Florida and Michigan. A McCain-Romney ticket would go far in putting states that are in the “Lean Democrat” or “Toss Up” categories into the Republican column.
For those uninformed Democrats out there, the President IS chosen by the Electoral College, not the popular vote, as you perceived it in 2000. McCain-Romney picking up Nevada, New Mexico, Florida and Michigan will definitely help turn the tide into McCain’s favor. That is something, sadly, that Gov. Pawlenty doesn’t bring to the ticket.
August 28th, 2008 at 12:33 PM
Romney’s too great a liability for McCain because of his wealth and disconnect from ordinary Americans, something Pawlenty definitely has going for him. He won’t help at all.
I’d like to see T-Paw selected. Then, at least on the off chance that McCain wins, we’d at least get rid of Pawlenty in St. Paul.
August 28th, 2008 at 12:52 PM
A Romney pick and McCain will lose.
Evangelicals and social conservatives will look elsewhere. Not because of his religion, but because of who Romney is and was.
McCain is weak on these issues, but Romney has been and continues to be a Pro-Abortion, Pro-Gay Marriage, Eastern Liberal who likes to talk like a conservative but has no record other than as that of a liberal.
August 28th, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Obama’s too great a liability for the Democrat because of his unearned wealth and disconnect from ordinary Americans, something Romney, McCain and Pawlenty definitely have going for them comparatively.
I’d like to see T-Paw selected. Then, at least when McCain wins, we’d at least have had one respectable vice president from Minnesota.
August 28th, 2008 at 12:58 PM
Frankly, Romney doesn’t do shit for me. I didn’t like him much in the primary, and I don’t care much for him now. He’s kinda scary, really.
He should select anyone who didn’t run against him in the primary. The bench is deeper than the folks we rejected in the primary.
August 28th, 2008 at 12:58 PM
Going to be Romney.
But I do wish that Rosenberg would get his wish…watching the lefty meltdown that accompanies a Molnau administration would be highly entertaining!
August 28th, 2008 at 1:05 PM
I’d like to see Pawlenty, but I think it’s going to be Liberman.
August 28th, 2008 at 1:16 PM
Marilyn Quayle
August 28th, 2008 at 1:23 PM
If he picks Romney, i dont know if picking up points in the west is worth becoming more vulnerable in the south.
August 28th, 2008 at 1:37 PM
If McCain picks a female (gov of Alaska?), he wins by 10 points. If he picks Timmy, he might squeak by. All the Hitlery Clintonistas will move over to McCain with a female VP.
I hate Timmy. He gutted our private property rights by signing the smoking ban and gutted our electoral rights with the Twins Pork Stadium (pork for a billionaire and his millionaire employees).
August 28th, 2008 at 1:39 PM
Ah, fun thread, Michael! I can only tell you my very Republican mother in the south (one of those evangelicals) said she’d stay home if it’s Romney (first time ever) and asked Paw-who?
Kind of a conundrum, in my opinion. The “perfect” option for the south (Pawlenty) is unknown there! What to do? We’ll wait and see. Nobody is seriously thinking he’s choose Lieberman, are they?
August 28th, 2008 at 1:42 PM
As much as I would love to see Steve Murphy and Larry Pogemiller pee their pants with a Governor Molnau, my hope is for Gov. Palin of Alaska. Conservative, pro-drilling, well-spoken, woman, cameras like her, etc.
August 28th, 2008 at 1:59 PM
It simply can’t be Tim.
He promised us that he would finish his term.
August 28th, 2008 at 2:01 PM
All those GOPer contenders, and the only one that was only married once is the Mormon. Go figure.
I hope Serial Adulterer John McCain picks Romney; I can’t wait to hear and see the wailing and gnashing of teeth as the southern rednecks struggle with voting for a Cultist or a Black Man.
A whole bunch will probably stay home, and a GOPer simply cannot win without the solid-white-south.
August 28th, 2008 at 2:32 PM
All those DFL contenders, and Obama picked the 90 year white guy who is an established serial liar and plagiarist who insults ethnic minorities. Go figure.
I hope abject fraud Barak Obama loves his pick of the serial plagiarist moron, “Slow” Joe Biden. I can’t wait to hear and see the wailing and gnashing of teeth as the anti-American liberal trash struggles with the choice of whether to vote for a man who has actually accomplished and lived the change he wishes to see in the world, or whether to exercise the bigotry of low expectations.
A whole bunch will probably stay home, and a DFLer simply cannot win without the establishing a new victim class to prey upon as political slaves.
August 28th, 2008 at 2:33 PM
the only one that was only married once is the Mormon.
That’s right, liberals support those who cheat on their wives in the oval office, rape women (in reality or just in their jokes) and lie under oath.
That’s so much better.
August 28th, 2008 at 2:35 PM
Actually, if Obama wanted to make a really bold choice, he should have selected Robert Byrd, the 900 year old white guy who was a senior executive of the Ku Klux Klan.
There’s a man who represents the best of the Democrat party.
August 28th, 2008 at 2:53 PM
Serial Adulterer
GeorgeJohnMcSameMcCain should pick toe-tappin’ Larry Craig. Then ya got one old fart that denies he bought the marriage license for Wife Numero Dos while still married to Wife Numero Dumped, and a GayOldPervert that denies he’s a GayOldPervert. Two liars at the top of the ticket – that’s the republiCon way!
August 28th, 2008 at 2:54 PM
So Tommy compares being a black man to being a member of cult. I guess from a guy who is totally hung up on McCain liking women might have other issues. At least he hasn’t been talking about naked men lately…
August 28th, 2008 at 3:03 PM
Personally, at least of the “short list” candidates, I don’t find any of them that interesting. Mitt just opens the door to Republicans to suffer from the same voter discrimination Obama likely will face (say what you will, there are a lot of conservatives that distrust mormons), T-Paw just opens McCain up to the inexperience attack he’s trying to level on Obama — there is, after all, a pretty decent chance that McCain won’t be alive in 4 years. Kay Bailey is just crazy.
There just aren’t that many great choices on the republican side. McCain of 8 years ago when he was actually a maverick was probably the best.
I think Hagel would have been an excellent choice but he’s too independent for the ticket and has been opposite of McCain on a number of issues.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:07 PM
rePete, get the nice short-bus driver to explain to you what I wrote, because you’re too (cheney)in’ stupid to figure it out on your own.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:10 PM
T-Paw canceling interviews could just as easily be him being pissy that after a year of being McCain’s lap dog and flying all of the country for him he didn’t get get picked.
I would enjoy T-Paw being the pick as I think it sits well for Obama. It completely neutralizes the inexperience argument against Obama, and, I think Biden rolls T-Paw in the debate. Plus, hardly anyone actually knows T-Paw.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:18 PM
Hey Cheeto-boy, please come to St. Paul tonight for practice-protest. I need to make sure my mace and billy-club are working properly for next week.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:21 PM
Can I help, D?
August 28th, 2008 at 3:22 PM
Well, no problemo! Grab your ankles, boy, and we’ll make sure that billy club does it’s job!
August 28th, 2008 at 3:22 PM
Bend over, Scrotee – you can be next.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:28 PM
are you guys on drugs? pawlenty (not my first choice either), but he has overseen a state with $35B budget, 10,000+ employees, versus obama overseeing a 10 person social services office.
the best thing should pawlenty be the v.p. pick and should they win, is that carol molnau would be the governor and ready for some “payback” to those dipster dfl legislators.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:39 PM
Yep. With DFL super majorities in BOTH houses after November, Molnau will have so much power to throw around. I mean, her job approval rating in this state is nearing the congressional low-water mark.
The only way she could save her reputation is to assume power and immediately resign.
Then we would have super majorities and James Metzen at the wheel in the governor’s office.
(I know, I teed that one up for y’all. Consider it my little gift to you).
August 28th, 2008 at 3:40 PM
Talked to Norm C. when he was in town the other day, he felt Tim P. had the nod. McCain will not pick VP that is pro-choice.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:40 PM
I can’t wait to see the “Foul-mouthed” Sandy Pappas and Larry Pogemiller on election night with Vice President-elect Pawlenty should he be picked.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:41 PM
How bout McCain picking a “hateful” candidate like Franken? Whoops, that’s right Frankenstein is a democrat. Palin or Meg Whitman the former head of Ebay would cinch it for McCain. My heart tells me it will be Romney.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:42 PM
in case you are a betting person, intrade odds have plummeted for romney and accelerated for pawlenty within the last two hours.
my bet is pawlenty. has anyone see if pawlenty has cancelled his friday radio show?
August 28th, 2008 at 3:46 PM
Romney
August 28th, 2008 at 3:47 PM
there is one thing i have to hand to pawlenty. he is loyal. when things looked like mccain was dead in the primaries, he continued to work for him. i thought he was wasting him time. i do admire him for facing long odds and, assuming he is nominated for v.p., probably facing an uphill battle to win. but at least we know what he is made of–he doesn’t give up.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:47 PM
“Meg Whitman”
Would be a disaster for McCain. She ran HP into the ground.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:49 PM
“Bend over, Scrotee – you can be next.”.
Tommy, tell me again what I don’t understand. This comment by you is pretty clear son…
August 28th, 2008 at 3:50 PM
plymouth dem–you need to read the wall street journal more often. meg whitman was ceo of ebay.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:50 PM
I think either Romney or Pawlenty would be a good choice. If Romney were chosen and they brought up the fact he is a Mormon, It would open up the discussion of B. Hussein Obama being a Muslim.
If Tim Pawlenty were chosen Carol Molnau could arm wrestle the Democrat low-life in the state house and senate for decisions.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:50 PM
My guess is T-Paw. If it is Joe L. the Republican party will come to a grinding halt and activist will stop volunteering.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:54 PM
“Mitt just opens the door to Republicans to suffer from the same voter discrimination Obama likely will face”
What he may face is nothing like what he did face from the racists in the Democrat primary.
“T-Paw just opens McCain up to the inexperience attack he’s trying to level on Obama”
How so? Pawlenty served in the Minnesota legislature about 900 percent longer than Obama did in the Illinois legislature… moreover, he voted other than “present” on bills. Next, Pawlently has been a damned good governor for five years… versus Obama, who was barely a Senator for 100 days.
Pawlenty is a seasoned leader. Obama is less than a pledge.
PlymouthDem just bested her/himself for stupidity.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:54 PM
Enough people have warned McCain about picking Joe L. If he does, he deserves to lose.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:55 PM
My heart says it should be Tim Pawlenty and my brain says it should be Kay Bailey Hutchison. Think of the female vote after Hillary got ‘dissed by Obama. Pawlenty will serve in the administration. The only question is what: Chief of Staff, Attorney General, Secretary of Energy or Secretary of Commerce.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:56 PM
the nice thing about all this guessing is bho is getting less attention.
August 28th, 2008 at 3:58 PM
Forget Lieberman. He’s a decent guy, but as has been noted here already, he’s pro-abortion…that is a non-starter for McCain as well as a majority of mainstream Republicans.
I’m still thinking Romney, but as I said, I’d love to watch a Molnau administration in action!
August 28th, 2008 at 3:59 PM
Joe Blow,
He’s definitely not qualified for A.G or Sec. of Energy. Maybe Sec. of Commerce.
Rudy = A.G.
Bolton = Sec. State
Joe L = Sec. Def.
August 28th, 2008 at 4:04 PM
My bad .. I was thinking Carly Fiorina.
Both would be bad picks.
August 28th, 2008 at 4:08 PM
Flounder,
Looks like you’ve been outed. Every single day you post gay references about men and little boys. It’s quite obvious you have a fixation when it comes to members of the same sex.
I guess you were confused when you thought Minnesota Democrats Exposed was the place to come out of the closet, and took the name literally.
I’m sure there are plenty of blogs where you can fulfill your obvious fantasies and hang out with other deranged Democrats.
Happy hunting Flounder!
August 28th, 2008 at 4:24 PM
Dash, engaging Cheeto boy is a losing proposition. The guy is a waste of flesh, and every response he recieves just encourages him to wank himself that much harder.
If we ignore him long enough, he’ll give up and spend all day at the NAMBLA site.
August 28th, 2008 at 4:24 PM
I’m hoping Tommy got banned for his last two comments.
August 28th, 2008 at 4:25 PM
Upon further reflection, I think that T-Paw cleared his Friday schedule to create media buzz and deflect from BHO’s night. Doesn’t mean a thing at this point until we have more of a determination.
Meanwhile, Politico is reporting that Secret Service has been at Romney’s sister’s house.
August 28th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
Mike believes in no censorship BHD, and I agree with him.
Deleting comments is for the DFL minions at MNpublius. Shunning works better than banning, anyway.
August 28th, 2008 at 4:34 PM
Yeah but most blogs/boards/forums have rules regarding explict language and personal attacks which Tommy engages in on every post.
August 28th, 2008 at 4:38 PM
Swiftee:
Agreed.
August 28th, 2008 at 5:13 PM
Pawlenty.
And, I’d love to see Governor Molnau bitch-slap Sandy Pappas for her rotten, mean lib mouth. I laughed today when I read how incensed Pappas got! Nothing funnier than a fuming lib that hasn’t gotten their way.
August 28th, 2008 at 5:28 PM
“Deleting comments is for the DFL minions at MNpublius. Shunning works better than banning, anyway.”
… and arresting journalists near Dem meetings with their billionaire benefactors… and threatening to jail documentary producers and journalists who dare speak the TRUTH about Obama’s tight relationship and fixation with domestic terrorists.
August 28th, 2008 at 5:33 PM
I have it on good authority that it’s Phyllis Kahn…Secret Service have been seen lurking in her garden…
August 28th, 2008 at 5:37 PM
I really don’t want Pawlenty as he’s a McCain clone. He’s wacko on the environment and corn oil.
I’d like to see Romney;atleast he’s advocating for the conservative policies.
August 28th, 2008 at 5:44 PM
Drudge is reporting that all McCain’s top VP contenders are heading to Dayton Ohio for a shared event tomorrow…
August 28th, 2008 at 5:51 PM
It’s very interesting really. Since Gore failed in his attempt to steal the election in 2000, Democrats have grown more shockingly violent and angry. At the same time, the political spectrum in the country has grown even more divisive. Democrats have exploited that division to undermine our economy and our national security.
In the meantime, the majority of Americans are demanding more a moderate/centrist approach to the country’s problems.
In answer, Democrats sent forward an extremist liberal candidate with strong ties to proud domestic terrorists, and who further promises to undermine our economy and national security.
Obama has never gone against the grain of his party. And he has NEVER brought any opposing sides together to accomplish anything. He even tapped an equal ego-maniac with an equally hard Leftist track record for his VP.
On the other side, Republicans are nominating John McCain, and honorable man of the highest integrity. He is inspired by those with the greatest character, and he inspires others to greater character. He has given his life to service for his country. Fully experienced in the broad range of foreign and domestic policies, John McCain has bucked his party more often than most members are comfortable with. He has a long, established track record reaching across party lines to accomplish great things.
My guess is McCain will, consistent with his track record, pick a non-polarizing running mate. He will head the Center-Right ticket in a Center-Right country.
The country is asking for John McCain. But Barak Obama has a pretty bow on his head. We’ll probably end up with what’s behind door number 2.
How sad.
August 28th, 2008 at 6:36 PM
Let me see if I got this straight – “D” and “Swiftee” talk about macing and beating Tommy with a billy-club, but the rightwingers want to ban Tommy when he retaliates?
The party started the downward spiral when the rightwingers changed the name and focus from “Independent-Republican Party” to “Republican Party of Minnesota”; and “D” and “Swiftee” and Chestnut and ansel continue to demonstrate why the party is in the toilet.
There is no one McCain can pick that will get moderates and independents to align with today’s GOP.
August 28th, 2008 at 6:46 PM
That would be great to get Governor No out of the state, after he’s run down the education system in MN, left us with a huge budget deficit, let the rich get richer, and let a bridge fall down and kill people under his watch, but how in the hell would Carol Molnau run the state, she couldn’t even run the Dept. of Transportation!
August 28th, 2008 at 7:29 PM
“Let me see if I got this straight – “D†and “Swiftee†talk about macing and beating Tommy with a billy-club,”
If you’d have read Tommy, you’d understand.
August 28th, 2008 at 8:10 PM
“Run down the education system in Mn.” I see- About 50% of the state budget goes to education, and they get more money every year, including under T.Paw. And that`s what you call “run down”? What an idiot. “Let the rich get richer.” No, the Gov doesn`t “let” them get richer, they do it on their own, thru hard work. And lower taxes gives everybody the chance to get richer, instead of taking from one class to give to another. And define “rich”.
August 28th, 2008 at 8:29 PM
intrade now has pawlenty at 80% to be v.p. choice. also seems someone from mccain camp has told redstate that it is likely.
guess we will be without a governor for a couple of months, maybe years.
on related subject, did you see mccain’s ad complimenting bho? for some reason bho is mad as hell. beats me why?
August 28th, 2008 at 8:33 PM
I am really hoping he chooses Gov. Mitt Romney. Mitt proved himself to be a true patriot. He has been fully vetted and would make a very solid and faithful running mate. I would love to see a debate with Biden and Mitt Romney. Mitt would totally destroy that wishy washy, exaggerate everything, liberal.
August 28th, 2008 at 8:41 PM
# PlymouthDem Says:
August 28th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
“Meg Whitmanâ€
Would be a disaster for McCain. She ran HP into the ground.
Whitman headed up EBAY. It was Carly Fiorina who headed up HP and she was back stabbed by a bunch of male chauvinist pigs.
August 28th, 2008 at 8:44 PM
Say, “A Deluded Voice”?
You don’t get to represent The Grand Duchy Of DuPont by bein’ a liberal.
Nice try, though.
August 28th, 2008 at 9:01 PM
A conservative woman is the best choice. Choosing a woman would be the kick in the head that Obama-messiah could not recover from.
Pawlenty is an opportunist and loser.
This will be McCain’s first test of intelligence. This is a golden opportunity for McCain and the Republicans. Let’s hope he doesn’t blow it.
August 28th, 2008 at 11:06 PM
@Fiercly:
1. I didn’t advocate banning Johnson.
2. I never use billy clubs.
3. If you don’t want to get on the bus, start walking.
August 28th, 2008 at 11:06 PM
I keep holding out hope that it will be Sarah Palin. A shocker.
But it seems like it will be Pawlenty.
August 29th, 2008 at 12:27 AM
Swiftee, don’t take the billy club off the table. Leave it there for negotiations.
I think it’s TPaw for VP. He makes the most sense. He can appeal to conservatives and regular folks who don’t even know what party they are. And in MN, he should get the Independents. But really, he is a VP nominee, take away the debate and they don’t mean a whole lot. TPaw isn’t going to hurt, he could only help. Hopefully we can find somebody to take his place as Gov. But I think him being on the ticket is good for Norm and good for House Republican candidates in MN. Thank God!
Oh, by the way, where is El Presidente? He must have read his own posts and jumped off a bridge.
August 29th, 2008 at 1:28 AM
el presidente esta aqui
I was watching and listening to some -si, se puede- from Denver.
I’ve been out of the state for between one and two weeks this month.
Sometimes I get busier this time of year, however, if you checked out post #8 I suggested that Marilyn Quayle could be a running mate for McCain.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:49 AM
Shozzy called it!!!!
