MY RNC SCHEDULE: TUESDAY EVENING – SEPTEMBER 2, 2008
By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 2, 2008

This evening, I will attend the second session of the Republican National Convention. The Minnesota delegation has been assigned the front six rows of stage-left. This session is scheduled to run from 6:20 – 10:05 p.m. Click here for a list of the scheduled speakers. After tonight’s session, I will attend AgNite at the Depot in Minneapolis.
UPDATE: Tonight’s session had the feel of a political convention. Former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson hit a home run with his speech about Senator John McCain. Below is a picture of my view of Thompson giving his speech.

With all this self promotion, I am surprised that you even have time to be a delegate.

MBB will always find time for self promotion.

Joe Lieberman didn’t speak at Ron Paul’s rally. Barack Obama must not win, but anyone who proudly accepts Joe Lieberman’s endorsement is not worthy of consideration. Fiscal conservitism is worthless if it’s not a 100% commitment.

Who was that guy yelling the entire night from the front?
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:42 AM
Perhaps the feeling of half of a convention considering the arena looked half empty. Man, can’t you people at least find bodies to put in the seats?
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:37 AM
The bar and restaurant owners are asking the same thing. With half of downtown barricaded, their one hope was that all the republicans in town for the convention would give them a bump. But there are, from what I have seen, very few republicans in town. And the ones that are here are only going to the private parties and skipping over anything not pre-arranged. Maybe they picked St. Paul because they knew it is a dark blue city, and as such, they didn’t have to worry about the wider public learning that republicans this year are simply not excited about their candidates or their chances.

Or maybe the town is empty because many people are staying away because of the way
ST Paul and it’s city council welcomes protestors?
A crop duster full of powderd soap during the next rain storm would work better that tear gas or pepper spray at disbursing these libtards.

A Mark Ritchie-esque question for Brodkorb/Carey/Craig:
Should a person who claims to be bi-partisan be giving a partisan speech?
Or, is there a difference between being nonpartisan and bi-partisan?

I get a kick out of the liberals here questioning why there aren’t thousands of Republicans running around town. I assume that is because there were so many in Denver. The answer is simple. Repulicans have jobs and take their responsiblities seriously.

This is no mystery at all. Saint Paul was presented with a once in a life time opportunity and the leftist junta that is in control pissed all over it.
The delegates and out of towners I’ve talked to are very aware of the efforts that the “City Fathers” of Saint Paul, most especially Dave Thune, have gone through to make them as uncomfortable as possible.
Even Minneapolis didn’t insult visitors, as Saint Paul did.
The word I have is that Bloomington and Eagan are the hot spots for night time entertainment and dining.
I can’t wait to see Chris Coleman back at the legislature this winter rattling a tin cup again…good luck with that.

Pete, your comment is completely baseless and pretty fucking stupid to be honest.
The convention seems pretty packed to me and I’ve been inside the whole time, gone on the floor a few times as well.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:55 AM
So, if the convention is packed, why aren’t any restaurants in St. Paul even 1/3 filled during the lunch hour?
The republicans sold this convention to the city as an economic boon. Now, all we have is a police state where the cops are arresting nearly all pedestrians on felony riot charges, and a downtown that is so dead, you would think it was a seminar entitled “New Republican Ideas”.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:17 AM
theres no such thing as a pedestrian in a restricted area.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:23 AM
So no Republicans want to defend the pressence of Loserman?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:25 AM
Andrew, so your saying the convention “seems pretty packed to me”. If you were there I would think you would KNOW. I stand by what I say Andrew. Many Republicans (including myself) passed up an opportunity to attend because we had jobs and businesses to take care of. I suppose you also think all those protesters took vacation days to come and protest and are not just unemployed assholes living off of other peoples hard work. Talk about “pretty fucking stupid…”

“So, if the convention is packed, why aren’t any restaurants in St. Paul even 1/3 filled during the lunch hour?”
Leroy is fucking stupid. So stupid, he doesn’t realize that the majority of the convention takes place in the evening.
Leroy is fucking stupid.

Leiberman’s presence last night was compelling. The country is looking for more cooperation and bipartisanship in approaching national problems. One candidate talks a good game, but has NEVER reached across the isle to accomplish anything of significance.
John McCain, on the other hand, has a lengthy track record of doing exactly that. Joe Lieberman was booted from his party for putting his country ahead of politics.
In fact, Lieberman is actually a fiscal conservative. So his endorsement bolsters, rather than dilutes McCains fiscal conservative credentials. Lieberman is more of a social liberal…. The jackass who stated otherwise is just ignorant of the matter.

“Leroy is fucking stupid. So stupid, he doesn’t realize that the majority of the convention takes place in the evening.”
Where the hell are they then.. because they aren’t in the auditorium.

Lieberman fiscal conservitive? Just because George Bush lowered the bar to be fically Republican does not make him a fiscal conservitive.
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:48 PM
oh and hey chestnut thanks for the jackass compliment and heres some good reading http://www.lewrockwell.com/barnwell/barnwell63.html
September 3rd, 2008 at 3:48 PM
So, Chestnut-
If everything happens at night, are you suggesting that they are all spending their days in their hotel rooms with the shades pulled dangling from the top of the bathroom door frame by their clawed toes waiting for night, so they can descend on the city?
Seems to me if there truly were thousands of republicans in town, and nothing going on during the day, at least a few of them would go out to catch a bite to eat or explore the city. Anyone who has been downtown this week knows that they are doing no such thing.
Chestnut is so damn stupid. SO DAMN STUPID.
September 3rd, 2008 at 4:26 PM
Leroy, talk about being stupid you really take the cake. Why would the delegates be hanging around downtown St Paul? They will go visit the areas of the metro where the protesters are not hanging around. Stupid damn liberals!
