EDITOR OF WOMEN’S PRESS ENDORSES LORD FARIS OVER FRANKEN

By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 3, 2008

“For two candidates who basically agree on the issues, Lord Faris and Franken couldn’t be much different. Franken has spent his professional life as a comedian and satirist. Lord Faris has been a teacher, lawyer, small business owner and elected official. He grew up in Minnesota and moved back to run for the Senate. She is a lifelong Minnesotan who has been deeply involved in her community. Though he has the support of some feminists, many of them disavow his humor, which in the past has included vulgarity, sexism, and jokes about rape. Lord Faris has volunteered her time with women’s organizations.

On the other hand, Franken’s ties to the entertainment world have helped him raise an impressive amount of money. Lord Faris’ campaign is cash poor. Franken has high name recognition, though some would argue that his name recognition has a large amount of notoriety attached to it. Lord Faris is largely unknown to the public. Franken’s characterization of those who differ with him on issues has included name-calling. Although Lord Faris has voiced her concerns about re-electing Norm Coleman to the U.S. Senate, and about Franken’s electability, she has never, to my knowledge, referred to someone with differing views as a ‘big fat liar.’ While Franken used vulgar anatomical terms to describe Republican politicians, Lord Faris, who is a trained mediator, served as the sole Democrat on a small-town city council, where she worked respectfully with Republican colleagues.” Source: Women’s Press, September 3, 3008

Who cares? Franken will beat Lord Farris by a landslide on primary day. Keep reaching at those straws Brodkorb.

I thought Lord Faris said that if the race were competitive, she would drop out.

I guess we can now say she has broken the only campaign promise she ever made.

Xan – define landslide. I think if Franken gets anything less than 80% it’s an embarrasment. My guess is 65-30 for Franky.

If Angry Al gets less than 70% in the primary he’s toast in November.

Why is it that republicans get so confused by primaries?

Prissy will get lots of votes from democrats who want to send Al a message, but still intend to send Norm a much bigger one in November.

I saw 5 Lord Faris tv ads in one hour tonight on channel 11. I would say that something is stirring. Anyone think she has a shot?

Perhaps the name of Lord Faris will some day be featured by Vanna White in a before and after.

This is a partisan ballot for the primary election. Norm doesn’t face any significant opposition and in my district Barb Davis White is unopposed. Maybe, just maybe it might be time to vote democratic. Let’s see! There is Angy Al and Lord Farris on the Democratic side of the ballot.

    Decisions, decisions!

If the link works here is a sample ballot for reader perusal. http://www16.co.hennepin.mn.us/voterinfo/ballot.pdf?id=hc_elec_ballot010009000009&munic_nm=Minneapolis%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20&w=0009&p=000009

No suprise here; the Women’s Press endorsement would have been news if it had not endorsed Lord-Faris! Certainly there will be some DFL’ers voting for Lord-Faris but a significant number of her votes are going to come from Republicans who only want to mess areound in our (I’m a DFL’er) primary. Some of my Republican friends are actually gleeful thinking that they can bring down Al Franken. They know that Al Franken can win in November – in fact is likely to win in November – and that Lord-Faris is sure to lose.

On Tuesday, reality will bite however! Al Franken will win easily as he should. And, a few weeks later the Women’s Press will endorse him for the Senate seat because he is much more responsive and supportive on many issues important to a lot of women in Minnesota.
