BLOGS REACTION TO MN GOP’S PRESS CONFERENCE ON FRANKEN’S ROLE IN BOYS & GIRLS CLUB SCANDAL
By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 15, 2008
Brian Maloney at The Radio Equalizer has been writing about Al Franken’s involvement in the Air America/Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club Scandal since 2006. He just wrote that the Republican Party of Minnesota “nailed it” today when Chairman Ron Carey called on Franken to divulge his role in the scandal.
“The Minnesota GOP has nailed it: Franken towed the party line for a bunch of crooks, all so that his bloated paychecks would continue to arrive.
That’s an important distinction, as his defenders have sometimes tried to blur this issue, accusing critics of claiming he participated in the theft itself.
Even if one didn’t take part in the heist, or drive the getaway car, taking a share of the loot is still a crime. While Franken may have escaped punishment in New York City, Minnesota voters may yet have something to say about it.” Source: The Radio Equalizer, September 15, 2008

Gary Gross at Let Freedom Ring Blog wrote that Franken also owes an explanation to more than just the people of Minnesota:
“Not only does Al Franken owe the people of Minnesota an explanation but he also owes the disadvantaged children who otherwise would’ve benefited from the programs that should’ve been run as a result of the initial $875,000. That isn’t all, either. Mr. Franken also owes the seniors who would’ve benefited from the programs that were supposed to be part of the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club.” Source: Let Freedom Ring Blog, September 15, 2008

Wow! One partisan blogger’s research leads another partisan blogger to demand answers on the issue of the finances of his former employer.
Norm’s desperation is becoming palpable.

I’m still confused on what the Franken did.
Did Franken Inc. steal money from someone? How, why, what?
What does Franken have to do with the Boys & Girls Club???

It’s what he didn’t do & what he did. What he did was he negotiated a 75% raise with Air America when he knew they weren’t paying some of their hosts.
What he didn’t do was give a second thought to finding out why Air America had borrowed money from a Boys & Girls Club.
What he didn’t do was demand that Piquant repay the alleged loan from the Boys & Girls Club.
What he didn’t do was think about others first. Instead, Mr. Franken just worried about himself.
That isn’t the mindset of a public servant. That’s the mindset of someone looking out only for himself.

… and what he did do was sign a legal document pertaining to repaying the swindled money from the charity for kids, demonstrating that he in fact KNEW about the arrangement, though he LIED about it for years.
… and of course, it’s unclear whether or not the Al helped repay the charity it’s money like the document he signed said would happen.

He signed no such document, and I defy you to prove me wrong.
That or shut you gaping food funnel.

Just ask Franken’s accountant whether any documents were signed, oh wait, ah forget about it….

Norm Coleman offered to sell the United States to Al Queda for $13.50 and a half of a ham sandwich back in 2007. That was after they rejected his earlier request for $24. He also had talks with Cuba to surrender everything south of the Mason Dixon line, as he was going to try and sell the northern half of the country to Canada or Alaska (this was all pre-Palin, when Norm still thought Alaska was a country).

Leroy, you are obviously a morning person…it may be time to get some sleep now??

Leroy’s an idiot. I dare anyone to prove me wrong.

Fantastic work by the echo chamber!

This is fascinating to me. MDE and the Republicans through everything but the kitchen sink at Al Franken, and undeniably had an impact. In June. But now, the scandals, both the mild ones and made up ones are old news, and voters are once again doing what Democrats want them to do, focus on the issues. And now tht they are doing that, Al amazingly enough, is pulling even in the polls. So what’s the Republican response? Now that their stock of scandals is running out? Why go back to the old, if somewhat silly and discredited pseudo-scandals, and hope against hope that voters can be fooled for one last time.

Say, Aairhead?
The night of the vote, you may feel a slight sting. That’s pride f***ing with you.
F**k pride. Pride only hurts, it never helps.
On the fourth, your boys go down…. Say it.
*laughing*

There really is no reason NOT to go over the DFL endorsed Senate candidates extensive list of scandals. It gives Minnesota voters something to think about before the election, and not only about Al Franken himself, but more generally how the DFL chooses candidates to endorse for elected office.

No, no, this needs to be brought up again and again. Since Al has no political record of action to which his character can be judged, issues such as this are indispensable. He was, at the very least, a top employee/figurehead of a company that bilked moneys from the most needy, he did nothing about it other than accept MORE money from said company.
This is a character issue, big time. Did he have a hand in it? Probably not but his lack of concern speaks volumes. Just like his tax issues. Maybe he didn’t cook the books himself but he sure found a lot of people to blame when he is the CFO.
Oh and please Hiram, bring up the issues! I love all of Al’s socialist ideas that will solve all our problems. Let’s hear them. You may be further ahead letting everyone think he is nothing more than a foulmouthed, money grabbing tax dodge.

“Did he have a hand in it?”
No, he had his hand out.

“But now, the scandals, both the mild ones and made up ones are old news, and voters are once again doing what Democrats want them to do, focus on the issues. And now tht they are doing that, Al amazingly enough, is pulling even in the polls.”
Voters are thirsty for a focus on the issues, but the idea that Franken pulled anywhere is hilarious. Franken is still stuck in the same 37-38 percent support today that he had 4 months ago. He hasn’t pulled ahead. Barkley pulled Coleman down.
That’s all there is to it.
That said, the “old scandals” have probably run their course. I don’t know that another “Franken is a tax cheat” ad is going to help Coleman any.

In response to Norm’s slipping numbers, y’all just threw the kitchen sink at Al, and it landed with a dull thud.
