DFL LEGISLATOR: “[AL] FRANKEN IS TOXIC…”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 28, 2008

‘In my district, Obama is tolerable, Franken is toxic and Tinklenberg is pretty well received by those who know him,’ Hosch said. ‘Of course, some people don’t know him yet.’” Source: St. Cloud Times, September 28, 2008

Larry Hosch DFL’er calls Franken “toxic”. A moment of seldom seen political truth telling by a member of his own party. Last time Al came to St Cloud only one person showed up for his rally, turnout for the next rally might be even worse after Hosch’s utterance.

    It wasn’t a “rally”, rick s.

But then again, the GreedOverPrinciples party has never been concerned with “facts.”

    “Facts are stupid things.”

Reagan said it, GOPer bootlickers live it.

Rick, yup, Al couldn’t even manage more than one person at his St Cloud rally. Thank God the people in St. Cloud have enough sense to stay away from such a “toxic” person. I doubt Al could hold a rally anywhere that would attract more than a few people.

Tommy J. I agree with you one person showing up couldn’t be called a rally. How about ” A table for two Mr. Franken” ?

How about you go back, do some “research”, and find out what you should have known before you posted?

You got a bad case of Bushy McSame disease:

    “Ready, FIRE! Aim…”

Here’s a fact for ya, Tommy Boy – DFL’ers are running from Toxic Al in droves. Watch as his donations start to drop in October as the Big Money Liberals start to pick and choose who gets last minute money. It won’t be Toxic Al.

Here’s a fact for you, AJ – there’s a whole bunch of GOPers that aren’t fond of RINO Norm, either.

But you see, AJ, that’s the best thing about this senate race – no matter who wins, a Democrat gets elected.

Unless, of course, the electorate gets so soured at the toxicity of the Coleman and Franken campaigns, decice “a pox on both of their houses”, and vote Barkely.

Which is a distinct possibility. “Probability”? Nope. But, still, a distinct possibility.

Here’s the real deal with Coleman: if you don’t agree with ol’ Smokescreen now don’t worry – he’ll change.

Why, if there’s a Democratic landslide, and the Senate lineup is 59 Democrats, and the Democrats offered ol’ Smokescreen a Chair if he switched, would he?

    Would he?

Deep down, even though you’ll never admit it, you KNOW ol’ Smokescreen easily could….

Bob, weave, dance and bob….but in the end, Toxic Al’s toast. Burnt toast. In the end, he’ll be Penniless Toxic Al, long forgotten by his rich lefty benefactors while the moving trucks are hauling his sorry back end back to his upper west side NY brownstone.

  9. Tommy Johnson Says:
    September 28th, 2008 at 12:52 PM

“Bob, weave, dance and bob….but in the end…” you know, deep down, you simply can’t trust Norm.

  10. Deep Thoughts Says:
    September 28th, 2008 at 12:54 PM

Larry Hosch is a smart Democrat. Wise to distance himself from Franken.

    Tommy:

I hate to ask are you on something?

It isn’t going to anywhere close to 59 seats. And in your scenario of wanting to make sure you have 60 votes to avoid the fillibuster what Reid will do if he has a brain is have seperate meeting with Coleman and a couple of other democrats that might be the 60th vote and ask them what they want on each individual vote.

Tommy, I agree Norm is a RINO. You seem to think so as well.

Conservatives will get maybe 50% of what we want from Norm.

The question is why do you hate him so much?

I have asked you this several times but haven’t seen a response yet, if I have missed it I apologize.

  13. Tommy Johnson Says:
    September 28th, 2008 at 4:42 PM

I don’t “hate” Norm; I just think he’s as phony as phony gets.

I disagreed with a whole bunch of stuff that Wellstone stood for, but I never questioned Wellstone’s integrity or where he was coming from: what you saw is what you got and he was unafraid to make a vote that politically would hurt him even though he knew the vote would hurt him. He was who he was and he was unapologetic about it and was deeply principled in his beliefs and actions.

By the same token, here in SD42 we’re represented by Senator David Hann, an unapologetic conservative. With Senator Hann, what you see is what you get. Like Wellstone, but from the exact opposite spectrum, Senator Hann is deeply principled in his beliefs and actions. While I also disagree with many of Senator Hann’s votes, I never question his principles, motivations, ir integrity. He is deeply and profoundly conservative and proud of it.

I respect politicians like Wellstone and Hann, who proudly advocate their positions. Additionally, both Wellstone and Hann have mastered the art of disagreeing without being disagreeable. This is damned near a lost art, and that’s a damned shame.

If you ever get a chance to sit down and talk politics with Senator Hann, take it. I had the opportunity a couple of weeks ago, and it was very spirited and thought provoking. The folks watching us seemed to enjoy listening, and at the end we smiled, thanked each other, and shook hands.

Wow Tommy, if all of your responces were like this I think we would all appreciate your input a great deal more.

Thank you for your explanation. While I don’t completely agree with your accessment about Norm, I can see why people think Norm does what he thinks will get him re-elected.

However, I can not see why people think Franken would be more agreeable. Vote for him on your ideology if you must.

  15. Deep Thoughts Says:
    September 28th, 2008 at 8:31 PM

Tommy – Just a thought. Perhaps more posts like your last one would allow for more readership. Uusally I just skip over the stuff you write, but based on post 14, I went back and read your comments. Good thought process. Please keep it up. I don’t agree with your position, but I understand why you would think that way.

  16. ranger Says:
    September 28th, 2008 at 9:25 PM

Norm has lots of faults and on the issues he is truly out of step with most Minnesotans, but Franken is so bad–personal and public behavior alike that he forces many to reject him on decency grounds alone.

Does he really have a core or is he truly just an ego maniac with a few set lines.

We need some new polling data. It must show Franken to be unelectable and maybe forced to drop out and let someone run with a chance to win.

  17. the real Bill Says:
    September 28th, 2008 at 9:33 PM

If Franken is down by 10 in two or more polls by October 15, he should drop out. it is the only decent thing to do.

  18. Jim Says:
    September 29th, 2008 at 11:54 AM

“Ranger” and “The Real Bill” need a refresher on the election process in Minnesota. A candidate has no obligation and no ability to “drop out” because “two or more” polls show him/her trailing.

Most assuredly, Al Franken is quite electable and despite the spiteful words tossed about by some people on this website, he will be an excellent U.S. senator.

If anyone posting here had bothered to watch Al Franken in his visits around our state, one would notice how personable he is and how effectively he communicates with people. Al Franken talks to folks and treats them with dignity and respect. Contrast that with Norm Coleman who refuses to engage people and speaks only in platitudes and doubletalk. But what is really annoying is the perpeutal grouchiness of Norm Coleman and is constant sneering at people (mostly independents and Republicans) who disagree with him about Iraq or any other issue. Norm Coleman believes that he is always right and anyone who dares to disagree with him is not worthy of his time. Al Franken seems to really enjoy bantering with people who have a different point of view. Norm Coleman just frowns and walks away.

“Al Franken seems to really enjoy bantering with people who have a different point of view.” Really? Al Franken? What? You can’t be serious? The dude loses his marbles, body slams people, hollers, and then writes books where he calls others “big fat idiots”.
