DFL U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken has moved into his first solid lead over incumbent Republican Norm Coleman, according to a new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll.

Looks like Franken is “exposed.” As the winner of the election, that is.

Yeah, what is it worth? Not much from a paper that may not be around to cover Franken losing in a month.

The only thing this latest poll shows is that the Strib may even be running short on DFL subscribers. A couple more quarters of losses, missed debt payments and layoffs and their print edition will be about the size of The Onion and far less entertaining.

Well, duh. Of course this is the sample. This is also reflective of the electorate in Minnesota today. There ARE more Dems and that is what the poll also showed.

Naturally, if you want to go out and poll Repubs, then Coleman would be leading. However, that would not be a representative or scientific poll, would it now?

I was wondering why the Coleman ads had juiced up a bit in their attacks of Franken. Now I understand. When you are behind like this, you need to go negative in even a bigger way to try and move votes. Clearly, this is what thei internal polling must be showing, also. Otherwise, they would be backing off the negative and focusing solely on the positive of Normy.

I think Frankens problem come November will not be so much fading Norm. It may be a surging Barkley.

The reason both Norm and Franken have polled in the lower 30′s the last few days. The pollsters are having difficulty figuring out a likely voter formula that will keep Barkley out of the 20′s.

The strib sample was 42% dem, 26% rep, and 28% indep. Franken should be ahead with that sample. Coleman and Franken supported by about 3/4 of party in sample.

I view any polls just like putting Brittney on the cover of People mag. Polls make is easy to the report the news and make the news.

If Al was doing this well, we would see BO and Slow Joe here doing victory laps. Dems want to get to 60 so they can ram anything through they want.

I expect their endorsement to come down soon. They couldn’t be seen backing a lose, could they?

Read that Strib poll this morning, and nearly spit coffee all over my screen. Take a look at a couple articles over there. A Minnesota soldier arrested for murder, who doesn’t appear to have lived here in nearly 20 years, and Governor Cutie Pie “can” sound like a Minnesotan – intimating that her accent might be a put-on.

Hey, Strib. It’s not a MN accent. If you can detect an accent in someone’s speech, it means it’s not your own.

It was interesting to read about the poll where normy has opened up a big lead and Al is doomed.

Interestingly, I went to the startribune web site, and their top story is that Al has opened up a big lead.

I look forward to seeing a thread where we can talk about how normy is doomed.

Laughable. This is the Star Tribune manufacturing “news” to prop up their candidates in hopes of keeping the money well from drying up.

It won’t work. Big Liberal Money knows a fake poll when they see it. Every other reputable poll shows the opposite. Toxic Al’s money is going to dry up.

Last I checked the people of Minnesota elected Jesse Ventura, oh and by the way about 200,000 people did vote for Barkley to sit in that senate seat.

People are free to vote for whoever they want, Chestnut. They can even vote for ol' Smokescreen. But I got a feeling in the next month, Senator Barkley will be drawing from Norm's base, too. After all, everyone knows Coleman is a RINO. True conservatives might as well vote for Barkley; with him what you see is what you get - as opposed to The Chameleon.

With the McCain collapse impacting on Coleman, I think Coleman will lose a few to Barkley. Franken will continue to deteriorate and Barkley will benefit. Franken is in jeopardy of running third. Didn’t Skip HHH run third in the 1998 governor’s race—Jesse winning and Norm was second, I believe.

I can hear it now, “The TURD runs THIRD”.

I know a lot of the Lord Faris people have gone to Barkley.

I absolutely LOVE the “Senator Dean Barkley AGAIN!” thing.

Barkley was elected by ONE person in Minnesota. Governor Big Baby, 24 hours before the election of 2002.

If Barkley had even a tiny ounce of morals, he wouldn’t parade around as a “Senator”. He was NEVER elected.
