ROTHENBERG: DSCC MIGHT BEGIN ATTACKING BARKLEY IN ORDER TO SAVE FRANKEN

By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 3, 2008

It was bound to happen and with yesterday’s KSTP/Survey USA poll results showing that Dean Barkley is taking votes away from Al Franken, the long knives from the DSCC are likely soon to come out.

The only person who stands to lose from Barkley’s gain is Franken and that’s why Stu Rothenberg is reporting that Franken’s allies are looking at possibly coming in and going negative against Barkley.

According to Rothenberg:

“Some Democratic operatives have been considering whether it might be necessary for Franken, or more likely the DSCC, to attack Barkley to try to pull liberal (or at least anti-Coleman) voters away from the Independence Party nominee.” Source: Roll Call, October 2, 2008

Click here for the complete story.

Less than a month ago, Team Franken was smugly feeling as though they had made up for all the lost ground from Franken’s tax and business scandals, rape jokes and, to be honest, Franken being Franken.

The millions of dollars of attack ads right after the Republican National Convention from Team Franken and their allies, did for a short period of time, knock Coleman’s numbers down.

Since then, as people remember what it is they don’t like about Franken – particularly Democrats – they are looking to Barkley as an alternative to voting for the endorsed Democrat, Al Franken.

Hey, is Senator Coleman going to be returning the dirty money that Tom Petters gave him to continue the culture of corruption?

    Dejected Republican
Before you start throwing Norm under the bus what did Petters donate to the DEMS?

Lucky for Norm there is no real alternative. After Norm voted for the bailout, I removed his sign from my yard and told them to quit asking me for money.

But since Franken is the wost Senate Candidate in the history of Minnesota, Norm will still get my vote. Franken is vile, evil, smug, and arrogant. Most Dems I know won’t even consider voting for him and are voting for Coleman.

Just the opposite goes for my Rep — Colin Peterson. He voted against the bailout and is a decent guy, mostly conservative Dem. He’ll get my vote even though I am a conservative Republican.

I’m down to one sign in my yard since I only put sign up for conservatives. That sign belongs to my state Rep. Marty Seifert.

What about Peters’ contributions to these Democrats?

    $19,200 to Klobuchar

    $3,300 to Oberstar

    $2,000 to Dayton

    $1,500 to McCollum

    $2,300 to Bonoff

    $5,100 to Wetterling

    $3,000 to MN DFL
    $1,000 to Mondale

$500 to MN DFL House Caucus

Had lunch with a business associate today….a very staunch conservative with a McCain sticker on his car…he’s voting for Barkley. Shocked me, that’s for sure. Says he loves McCain and thought Palin did a fabulous job but just can’t hold his nose to vote for Coleman this time. Very interesting.

hottip:No other senate candidate from Minnesota that I could find. Don’t you agree that Norm has an obligation on the day that George Bush signed the largest sweeping bailout in history to Wall Street fat cats that Norm should be the bigger and return Petters dirty money? How can we say anything about Obama and Rezko if we continue to allow our own flock to get way with this stuff? Bad vote by Coleman in this buyout … he deserves to move to LA with his wife … he should have good friends there now that he voted for the Hollywood pork the other day.
