COLEMAN FOR U.S. SENATE PRESS RELEASE: “GORE WAS RIGHT: FRANKEN’S VICIOUS PERSONAL ATTACKS ARE UNACCEPTABLE”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 4, 2008

St. Paul – Coleman for Senate Campaign Manager Cullen Sheehan today issued the following statement regarding Al Gore’s visit to Minnesota to campaign with Al Franken.

“Even Al Gore knows that Al Franken’s ugly and mean-spirited personal attacks have no place in the public discourse. Today’s photo-op won’t change the fact that Franken’s nasty and harsh attack politics are wrong for Minnesota.”

Flashback: Al & Tipper Gore Repudiate Franken’s Vicious Personal Attacks

“In a year of political pie fights between congressional Republicans and White House Democrats, it took the rude comments of comedian Al Franken to send Newt Gingrich into the consoling arms of Tipper Gore. … What was surprising was that, even in this heyday of insult and bathroom humor, the sophisticated dinner audience still retained enough propriety to get real squeamish about a lampoon of the Gingrich daughter’s first menstruation.”  (David Horsey, “High Time To Call Foul When Entertainers Cross The Line,” Seattle Post-Intelligencer, May 8, 1996)

“Showing the good breeding he received in the private schools of Washington, Vice President Al Gore came down from the head table to personally apologize to Gingrich, saying, ‘That was mean.’ Gore’s wife, Tipper, gave the speaker a hug and kept her arm around his waist to demonstrate her emotional support, despite the fact Gingrich has spent two years trying to destroy the political agenda of her husband.  Gore said he wished he had walked out on Franken once the jokes went sour.” (David Horsey, “High Time To Call Foul When Entertainers Cross The Line,” Seattle Post-Intelligencer, May 8, 1996)

Perhaps Mr. Franken was unhappy that Mr. Gingrich was telling his fellow republicans the following:

Often we search hard for words to define our opponents. Sometimes we are hesitant to use contrast. Remember that creating a difference helps you. These are powerful words that can create a clear and easily understood contrast. Apply these to the opponent, their record, proposals and their party.

Newt “Is My Wife Well Enough To Divorce Yet?” Gingrich is a bizarre, corrupt, disgraceful, hypocritical, incompetent, insensitive, intolerant, shallow, sick, self-serving, pathetic, shallow and sick liar.

And that’s just by using his list.

Oh, and he’s a traitor, too.

    And he hates America.

But most of all, Newt’s completely an immoral cheat – as evidenced by his numerous adulterous affairs.

Wow. After a lot of digging the republicans found another Franken joke that wasn’t funny. And they only had to go back to 1996.

This method of attack could have been used to defeat Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. All the Democrats had to do was play clips from bad movies he made in the 1950s.

Ummmm. Any chance we can focus on current events. Like a really bad $800 billion bail out bill?

We only have to go back to last week to find a Coleman vote that wasn’t funny.

That last one was directed towards average republiCon chump.
