NRSC RELEASES TV AD ABOUT FRANKEN’S BUSINESS PROBLEMS

By Michael Brodkorb | October 6, 2008

The NRSC has released television ad highliting Al Franken’s business problems. This may be my favorite NRSC ad, as it subtly to connect Franken’s business problems with the current problems on Wall Steet.

Yeah, this is necessary. What is this, the 400th version of the same, stupid ad.

Subtle? Ha. That’s the stupidist attempt at a segway ever. Play the exact same ad you’ve played for months and just throw in a “banks are melting down” quote at the end?

Well, at least the GOP has realized that the economy is what matter. Unfortunately, you have no position on the issues exact lower business taxes.

I’m embarrassed that this crap is the best that the idiots running the NRSC — or anyone else — can do. Apparently, there’s been nothing else to talk about with regard to Al Franken since the first version of this ad ran six months ago (or longer).

You want to run an ad, call Al Franken out for the bald-faced lies he tells on a regular basis… for example, this from his Web site:

“But during the Bush administration, the number of Americans living without health insurance has grown from 39.8 million in 2000 to 46.6 million as of the most recent Census Bureau data (2005). That includes 21.5 million people who work full time.”

First of all, there ARE NOT 46.6 million AMERICANS without health insurance. That inflated number includes 13 million illegal immigrants, who ARE NOT Americans.

In fact, the “47 million” lie includes four sub categories of people: 1) people who will quickly transfer from one insurance plan to another, 2) illegal immigrants, 3) individuals who make more than $50,000 a year but who elect not to purchase health insurance (usually because they are young and healthy), and 4) individuals who are eligible for government assistance with their health care through programs like Medicaid and SCHIP, but who do not avail themselves of that assistance.

If you subtract these people from the 47 million figure, the number drops to approximately 8 million.

If one adds back in those who make between $50,000 and $75,000 a year, the figure is roughly 16 million.

Considering these FACTS, is this really the basis for supporting a massive government power grab that would reduce the quality and efficacy of health services for 100 percent of Americans and advance nothing but a socialist state?

Considering other FACTS, is it really the role of Government, in a free society, to provide insurance.

    What crap.

    Here’s the 30 second spot:

“Al Franken proposes a massive government power grab, that transfers decisions about your health to government bureaucrats who will dictate your treatment decisions.

Why? Because Al Franken thinks 47 million Americans lack insurance.

But this is patently false. It’s an massive exaggeration intended to scare you and mislead you to buy his scheme to take health decisions out of your hands.

It’s time for an honest discussion about the state of healthcare. Tell Al Franken that misinformation and fear are no way to lead.”

Well, before you run republiCon Ron out of HQ, you better make sure you got back-up files. He’s run the WORST state political party in the nation, as far as paperwork goes.

Political junkies will look back at this campaign and revel at how badly the NRSC, MnGOP, and Team Coleman blew this thing. They blew threw all of their negative material on Franken WAY TO EARLY. They might have had a chance had they waited to release some of this stuff this or next month. Now it’s old hat and it can’t change the subject from issues like the economy.

MDE was too interested in self promotion and couldn’t wait 8 months ago to release the Franken material. Now they are paying the price as Coleman slips in the polls with the rest of republicans.

Incidently, the strib poll is looking more legitimate as numerous polls in once close states are showing huge gains for Obama.

In comment #5, Tommy is probably correct. I don’t see many reasons to be impressed by the crap coming out of the MN GOP office these days.

  8. Chestnut Says:

It seems that after a few years of Ron Carey, the Minnesota GOP has a weak bench and a weak message.

100 monkeys beating away on typewriters could develop a more cohesive message than what we’re seeing from the Minnesota GOP right now.

In comment #5, Tommy is probably correct. I don’t see many reasons to be impressed by the crap coming out of the MN GOP office these days.

Even a blindfolded blind monkey throwing darts hits the target once in a while.

    “blindfolded blind monkey throwing darts”

Sounds a lot like MnGOP these days.

November is going to be a blood bath for Republicans. All of the polls coming out today and over the weekend are grim for republicans. And, that was before the Markets have tanked again.

  11. Chestnut Says:
    October 6th, 2008 at 6:36 PM

yeah, the ultimate irony is Democrats benefiting from the collapse of the economy that fell apart thanks to Democrat policies and actions

Connect Franken’s business problems to the troubles on Wall Street? How about connecting Norm Coleman’s six years in the United States Senate with Wall Street’s problems? How on earth could citizen Al Franken have anything to do with this? Even your own rats are jumping off this stinking, sinking garbage scow, Brodkorb.

“Even your own rats are jumping off this stinking, sinking garbage scow, Brodkorb.”

How do you know Weiner? You noticed an uptick in the rodent population in the dumpster lately?

I wouldn’t get my hopes up if I were you. Your lack of elbow room may not be due to more potential dates…..I’d weigh Eva again; bet she’s tipping the ol’ truck scales at 300+ these days….

    Say Minnbrainlib?

How about connecting Frankenfrauds time with Err Amerika with stealing from a childrens charity ? How on earth could citizen Al Franken have anything to do with this?

    Surprise ! he did !

  15. MplsSteve Says:
    October 6th, 2008 at 11:45 PM

    I gotta agree with Chestnut.

Collectively, the Coleman campaign, the state GOP and the NRSC have beaten to death the “Franken didn’t pay taxes” angle. They’ve also beaten to death the “Franken likes stories about porn and rape” angle too.

If there isn’t a Minnesotan out there that doesn’t already know this, they don’t have a TV, a radio or subscribe to a newspaper. In other words, they’re not likely to vote – period!

There is a wealth of information out there regarding Franken. He can be attacked on his stance on the Iraq war or even the war on terror. He can be hit for some of the lies he’s told about health insurance. And yes, the Air America/children’s charity rip-off is fair game too.

At some point (if it hasn’t happened already), voters are gonna start tuning out Coleman’s and the NRSC’s ads. It’s time for some new material to be used – and now.

  16. Tommy Johnson Says:
    October 7th, 2008 at 9:34 AM

    MplsSteve,

I think the voters are sick and tired of the negative PERSONAL attacks.

Coleman has a ton of issues that Team Franken could have gone negative on, such as ol’ Smokescreen’s reputation as a cad.

    They didn’t.

Team Franken could have gone negative on the ol’ HairDrierThingy – Lord knows, what with who was shilling the Senator on it, many would have figured that as fair game.

Team Franken could have tied ol’ Smokescreen to Jack Abramoff; I’m surprised they didn’t as it really worked last cycle in Montana and this cycle in Colorado and Florida.

The fact of the matter is Team Franken has gone after Norm’s record, and more specifically: lack thereof. And that’s resonating.

Team Coleman has gone after Franken personally and they’ve done it constantly and voters are tuning it out.

I feel as confident on this race as I did with Klobuchar and Little Markie last cycle.
