Commenting on the convention....the Bonoff delegates most likely weren't the ones that eventially changed to Madia...it was more than likely the super delegates that wanted to save face with their local delegates who had overwhelmingly supported Madia. The Bonoff people were just sore that she lost...I get that...I would have probably felt the same way had Madia lost, but the fact is that the delegates minds were made up way before that interview was done and it was NOT public knowledge to that many of the delegates till well after the endorsement...those are the facts as I remember them, and I was there.

Madia did in fact state earlier in the year that he voted for Bush in 2000, and more than once. He obviously misspoke when he was interviewed before the convention, but what makes anyone think it was calculated...I believe he just blew it...maybe he was tired, who knows. He had over a month to have any delegate question him on this issue (if it ever was one) and he personally tried to talk to all of them. He has always had the same tax cut stance...he just clarified it so people could better understand...he stated MANY times he would not vote to extend the tax cuts for the top 2 % (approx.) of earners making more than $250,000 a year....now he merely states those making under $250,000 a year would keep their tax cuts. The PAC check (a whopping $500) was returned when it was brought to his attention...he doesn't handle the checks or money, does Erik? Since Erik continues to lie about Madia's policy stances, perhaps he should concentrate on cleaning up his own house first (and we all know what an important issue home ownership is to him). At least after Almanac tonight we know he can make his own baseless, false attacks.....a press release...whoop-de-do! Is he running out of money...those attack ads have got to cost him a bundle. Good luck and good ridins, Erik....welcome home to Target.

Do you Dems not recall how pissed the Bonoff supporters (a very sizable chunk of the convention) were about the timing of the comment and the convenient correction? If you would have been reading Publius last spring you would have seen the bitterness in many a delegate. They felt conned.

Oh how quickly people forget when it comes to a tight general election.

" Madia wasn’t chosen based on his past votes as the endorsee for the DFL. He was chosen for his plans for the future."

Ladybelle - I agree with you. Madia has no past for us to examine. He did serve, yes. But as you all are saying for John McCain, his service is to be admired but not a reason to vote for him. What goes for McCain goes for Madia, right?

Madia can stand up and tell people what they want to hear. What a luxury. It is the best possible position to be in. Paulsen and other politicians have to defend and explain difficult decisions they've had to make as public servants.

The timing of Madia's "voting for Bush" quote was an example of how much of a pro media manipulator he is. He did that just before the DFL endorsing convention. He got endorsed. And then he corrected it just after. That is a fricking maestro, if you ask me.

Media maestro or public servant? I'd rather have a public servant. I'll take Erik.

Flash must be getting tired of writing a blog for four of his closest fellow assnozzles to read...but trolling for traffic here is really, really a low point.

I guess the links from the MiniSoros sock puppets are not doing the trick for ya, eh Flash?

Frankly, I couldn't care less who Madia voted for before 2004. I've voted for Ramstad for years and I hope no one holds that against me either. Madia wasn't chosen based on his past votes as the endorsee for the DFL. He was chosen for his plans for the future. You might ask Erik if he has any. No one has found his plan for Iraq yet.

So we know Madia tried sound like a liberal democrat and said he voted for Gore in 2000, and later admitted he voted for Bush in 2000 after first supporting McCain and volunteering for McCain.. an obvious lie about his vote in 2000. Did Madia ever say if he voted for Bush or Kerry in 2004. If so could I get a link on that? I have not heard any direct response. This seems to be avoided. He said he turned democrat when he went to Iraq. When did he vote for a democrat? In 2004?

Aaron: You make no sense, did you read the MPR article. Why would Michael block a link to an article that does a fact check on the Paulsen ad, and shows everyone that it was correct, and that Madia is in fact a liar. I wouldn’t be surprised if Michael linked to the article with the headline “MPR lays out case showing Madia Lied.”

PD: It was a rebuttal ad because it shows that the Attack ads against Erik were false. It also explains that Madia has a lot of trouble telling the truth, so his smears should not be believed. The clip about Madia saying he wants to raise taxes was also a rebuttal, because Madia had denied that he said he was going to raise taxes, even though he said it over and over again (without any $250,000 qualification) when he was seeking the DFL endorsement.

Also, Madia can no longer deny that he had nothing to do with the smears against Erik. As pointed out in the MPR piece that Aaron linked to for us, Madia actually started the Strip club smear with a press release from HIS campaign. Seems the DCCC is taking it’s cues from the Madia campaign’s when it comes smearing Erik.

"Anyone notice that Michael is getting increasingly testy? "

Hey, I just come here for the circus, now. As long as the MNGOP thinks smear tactics work, the Dems will be just fine. Another election cycle where Mike and his brethren in the Party have actually helped the DFL.

PLEASE PLEASE keep up the attacks and smear, its the only way Franken has a shot. This was Coleman's slam dunk seat and the Right pissed it away in desperation.

If Coleman would have stayed on message, done more folksy ads like the fisher boy (GREAT ad By the way) and the new Daughter Sarah ad (even better than fisher boy) he would be up by 20. Instead he turned off the public with the Cheesy Bowling ads and kept beating the dead horse lieing about Franken tax situation.

Keep it up Mike, electing DFL candidates one smear at a time!

Just so everyone knows, and in the spirit of having a truthful discussion of Democrats, the local Fox News - yes, "FOX" News - today is reporting:

<em>The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey shows Franken with 43% of the vote, Coleman with 37%, and Barkley with 17%. This is the largest advantage Franken has enjoyed all year. A month ago, Coleman was up by a point. "</em>

It's gonna be a blowout on November 4th, and the GOP is getting slammed.

Any predictions on how long until Ron Carey is run out of office?

"PD: No hypocrisy with Erik Paulsen releasing an ad about Madia’s Lies, on the same day he holds a press conference about Madia’s dirty campaigning. As a matter of fact Paulsen even mentioned in press conference that the ad was coming out. It really reinforces the same message. The ad is really a rebuttal ad about Team Madia’s smear campaign."

HAHA. A rebuttal ad? What the hell did that ad REBUT? The only one of the attacks against Madia that could be construed as a rebuttal was directed at DCCC.. not Madia. Tell me, what was saying Madia lied to MPR rebutting? What was saying Madia will "raise taxes, raises taxes, raise taxes" rebutting? What was rehashing the dumb PAC money (which is a lie by the way) rebutting?

Nice try. Paulsen's campaign (as Michael likes to put it) is floundering and his only recourse is go attack. The guy can't even put out an issue ad before he attacked. It's just hilarious he thought it was a good idea to release it the day his talking point was Madia is going negative and that hurts CD3.

Thanks for posting the link, that was the MPR story I thought you were trying to link to. It pretty much says that Erik's ad about Madia's lying was accurate.

It also added something I didn’t know about. The disgusting attacks on Erik’s character actually started with a Madia Press release. I guess we can add another lie to the list, that Madia had nothing to do with that smear on Paulsen. Looks like the DCCC just picked up on a Madia Press Release.

As you belittle Madia's military service and ask if that qualifies him for congress, I would ask you if you are familiar with John Mccain's resume?

Aaron: The MPR link you put in your comment is dead. I would not be surprised if you did that on purpose, because the MPR piece on the Madia Lies ad was not flattering to Madia. The reporter from MPR actually explained how he was the one that caught Madia Lying. Bad news for Madia, he has been caught lying to Reports, and just like the voters in the 3rd District reporters do not like to be lied to.

Average Joe: You’re right the DFLers on the board cannot or will not defend Madia’s lying. But don’t forget, they were one of his first victims in this race. Madia lied to them about who he voted for. I was at the 3rd District DFL endorsing convention, and Madia’s people were even repeating that lie about Madia voting for Gore in 2000. I remember reading the blogs when that lie was first revealed, and there were a lot of upset DFLers. I cannot blame them, just like the voters and reporters many DFLers don’t like being lied to either.

Thanks danbrome, you proved my point: "U.S. Marine Captain Madia" is his resume. While I have great admiration for those in service, it hardly qualifies someone for Congress. Madia should get some experience in public service before swingin' at the big leagues. Erik has been a great servant of our state his entire life. He will make a great Congressmen too.

I hope the voters of CD3 take a hard look at the candidates. Erik has much more to offer.

Lots of Dem bots on here who are completely full of shit to take a word off Chestnut. Can't argue the truth. If you look back through all the posts the Rebotardfls are the first ones commenting almost every time. Makes me wonder if they just sit and hit refresh every 10 seconds. Do they get paid for it? Or do they really not have lives?

Michael, you should put some advertising dollars for Greenpeace and Sierra Club and Peta... well, actually you can't get money there. Go with Birkenstocks and the local hemp farm or any lib company there is. As few as there are, I would think even they would like to make a buck. Do libs do private business?

Bots, dispute the lies of Madia. While I know you can't, at least try a rational argument.

Then go out and back Entenza, can't wait for that... how many Robotardfls will be on here?

Madia is a lock, Sarvi is looking more and more likely, and Tinklenberg has a solid shot now too.

Can you say clean sweep?

Throw Franken in there, and that makes the guy who was runner-up to Sarah Palin for the second place slot on the second place presidential ticket the highest ranking republican in the state.

I wonder if that sort of drubbing would be enough to convince the state's republicans that negative campaigns and blogs like this only serve to rile up democrats and turn off republicans?

Don't tell me.... Erik is a better choice because he thinks people who are not "one of us" by his ridiculous definition should be condemned.

Check the facts Erik, that would leave out about 30% of your constituents.

Ashwin Madia is fighting to represent ALL the people in the District. His policies of inclusion and equality for ALL make him the logical successor to Congressman Ramstad.

What do you think about the RCCC moving ads from Paulsen to Bachmann? Why are they pulling out of a contested seat, and wasting dollars on a safe seat? Bachmann should be safe.

Michael,

Nice try to disco around the fact that you complained about negative ads the very same day you released a negative ad. No amount of spin saves you from your hypocracy. But at least we know why Paulsen continues to go negative. He's behind in another poll. Looks like the MDE strategy is tanking another campaign.

I am surprised the 3rd would vote for a light weight like Madia. They guy has few notable accomplishments. Paulsen is a far better choice.

Gotta love these numbers!

Composition of Likely Voters 100%
conservative = 29%
moderate = 50%
liberal = 18%

Madia's beating Paulsen, with more conservatives polled than liberals!!!

No wonder the National Republican Congressional Committee bailed on Paulsen - he's getting beat like a cheap drum!!!

PlymouthDem: This ad is accurate...much more accurate than the trash coming out of Team Madia. So Team Madia thinks Congressman Ramstad is ridiculous?

Hahahaha.. you guys waited less than 24 hours after staging a ridiculous press conference whining about negative ads to release a negative ad featuring a bunch of recycled crap?

What a bunch of desperate hypocrites you guys are. What, Michael, your internals have Paulsen down 5... 10 points?
