ALBERT LEA TRIBUNE ENDORSES COLEMAN FOR RE-ELECTION; EDITORIAL RAISES STRONG DOUBTS ABOUT FRANKEN
By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 17, 2008
The Albert Lea Tribune has endorsed U.S. Senator Norm Coleman over Al Franken for the U.S. Senate. Franken lived in Albert Lea when his family first moved to Minnesota.
This is the first major post-primary newspaper endorsement for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota.
###
“But we doubt whether Franken would be in the state if it weren’t for his national political aspirations. We suggest he run for local offices before he shoots for the Senate.
Franken seems to be running on his famous name and a victory surely would rekindle his celebrity opportunities down the road. It worked for former Gov. Jesse Ventura, but least the pro wrestler had been a mayor of the sixth-largest city in Minnesota before he ran for governor.
Coleman, even if he ends up in a Senate minority, would get more done for Minnesota. Amy Klobuchar already is established and respected among Democrats, which likely will find themselves in the Senate majority. It would be helpful for the state to have senators on both sides of the aisle. It is worth noting that Coleman is a former Democrat.
Plus, we would imagine senators of any party would be able to work easier with Coleman than they would with a celebrity. Imagine their view: Would the statements they tell Franken in D.C. circles be lampooned down the road? Is Franken in it for Minnesota or in it for Franken? It is tough to get down to brass tacks with a celebrity in the room.
Washington needs politicians willing to reduce the bipartisanship. We aren’t convinced that Franken fits the bill.” Source: Albert Lea Tribune, October 17, 2008

The Tribune editorial position is logically precise and makes just plain good horse sense.
“We suggest he run for local offices” [first]. It’s awesome to hear this from the media.

Watch the Soros stipend wannabes act like it’s breaking news when the Star Tribune endorsed still angry Al.

So, Jbenson, I assume you will be calling on John Kline to step aside in favor of Steve Sarvi who has experience being elected at the local level?

You don’t make sense LJ. John Kline has 4 years of experience as a Congressman.
FrankenFail has no experience whatsoever in elected office, be it local, state, or federal.

““But we doubt whether Franken would be in the state if it weren’t for his national political aspirations.”
To me, it is obvious that Franken wouldn’t be hanging around us Minnesotans were it not for this campaign. Was there really nobody who has spent their adult life contributing to the community here in Minnesota who the Democrats could have nominated? Why bring in the celeb from NYC?
And besides that, I disagree with the majority of his platform.

Thanks for setting Leroy straight.

Another foaming-at-the-mouth Bachmann hater heard from.
And, by the way, she was right. Now go back to the rock you crawled out from under.

If she was right, can we get Paulsen, Kline, Davis, and Coleman on the record supporting Bachmann’s comments?

Jbenson and Bowtiepastadude:
My point is, John Kline had no elected office experience before moving to Minnesota to run for his seat in congress.
If Franken isn’t worthy, then you owe it to consistency to reject Kline’s contributions as well. And given the fact that Steve Sarvi, has a great deal of local elected experience, you should have no problem stepping up to support his bid to make said change.

All of the anti-Bachmann people on this blog, specifically Leroy and Hal Kimball, have one thing in common: They love Hitler-style thugocracy.
I cannot wait until McCain wins the election, Bachmann wins her re-election, and Republicans do as well as can be expected. Why? Because then I can find Leroy and Hal and beat their heads together for being such utter and complete morons.
