NRCC PRESS RELEASE: “MADIA MINGLING WITH LEADING PROPONENT OF LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN AMERICAN HISTORY”
By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 20, 2008
“The liberal San Francisco Democrat has become very unpopular. A recent NBC-Wall Street Journal poll shows Pelosi’s approval rating as only 23 percent. That’s even lower than President Bush’s 29 percent approval rate.  The Pelosi-led Congress, overall, doesn’t do much better.†(KRQE, 10/8/08)
Pelosi and her Democrat establishment colleagues know that they can count on Madia’s vote for their tax-and-spend agenda, and have funneled money into his campaign as a down-payment for his support. Madia has already emphatically stated that he is “against the tax rebate plans that are being put out right now,†which puts money back into the pockets of Minnesotans:
- Madia’s support for the largest tax hike in history: “We’ve got to let the Bush tax cuts expire.†(SD 42 & 43 Meeting, 11/28/2007; Stonewall DFL Screening, 1/19/08; Bloomington Forum, 1/27/08 )
- Madia’s support for the Death Tax: “On the estate tax, no, I don’t think we ought to repeal it.†(Candidate Forum, 01/27/2008)
- Madia’s support for raising the capital gains tax: “On the capital gains tax, I think we ought to look at increasing it.†(Candidate Forum, 01/27/2008)
“Campaigning with the leading proponent of tax increases in Congress, Ashwin Madia, just like Nancy Pelosi, is proving to the voters that he wants to return to the failed tax-and-spend policies of the past,†said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain. “Ashwin Madia is nothing more than another tax-and-spend politician ready to give his lock-step support to the Democrat-led Congress whose only achievement is passing the largest tax increase in American History.â€

I love how MnGOP’s strategy has boiled down to hoping CD3 voters believe their misrepresentations of Madia’s tax policy. Fortunately, media outlet after media outlet has debunked Paulsen’s position.
But, when you are down in the polls, I guess you have to go into desperation mode. Unfortunately for Paulsen, it appears he is trying to steal the “Joe the Plumber” strategy from another sinking ship, Team McCain.

Refresh my memory. Does the House Speaker usually come out to visit candidates two weeks before the elections in races where the candidate is nor doing well? Or do they cut off all party funding.
I know one means you are about to win, and the other means you are Eric Paulsen.
Just don’t recall which is which.

“to thank Madia for his unwavering commitment to the Democrats’ failed tax-and-spend agenda.”
As opposed to Erik Pulsen’s ideological commitment to the “Borrow and Spend” economics of George W. Bush….
If you liked George W. Bush’s economic “policy” of borrowing from the Chinese so you can go shopping at WalMart, Paulsen’s your guy.
Why anyone would want to embrace the failed policies of George W. Bush is beyond me, but then again: Erik Paulsen is as an extremist rightwinger as extremists get.

Tommy’s right. The only policies we should be supporting are the expense cutting economic policies of John McCain.

Wow, Madia isn’t that bright. Erik comes out with a commercial showing actual footage of Madia saying he wants to raise taxes. Then Madia tries to pretend he didn’t say that, and he really only said he was going to tax the rich. Then a week or two later he comes out with a new proposal that includes over 7 Billion dollars in new tax increases that would mainly affect the middle class, including double taxing Americans working abroad, and establishing new taxes on Credit Unions. He then deniese during the Almanac debate that he proposed these tax increases, even though MPR has a tape of a phone interview where Madia discusses his new tax hike proposals.
Madia then invites the biggest tax and spender in politics to stump with him, and he wonders why people don’t believe him when he says he is not going to raise their taxes. Unfortunately for Madia, the voters of the 3rd watch not only what a candidate says, but what that candidate said in the past, and what they do.

re: Debate 8/21 with Erik Paulsen
Ashwin’s insistance that we balance the budget because “we don’t need to borrow $2.1 trillion more,” was met with loud applause from this mostly Republican audience of business leaders.
Republicans in the Third District are clearly fed up with the era of “borrow and spend” that was ushered in by the Bush Administration.
Ashwin Madia reminded the audience of his own Republican past and his belief that big problems can only be solved by continuing Congressman Ramstad’s tradition of working across party lines.
In Ashwin’s own words, repeated to voters across the Third District… “This is not about me…. It is about all of us, working together to get things done.”

A little birdie told me that Erik Paulsen is planning to cut taxes $139 trillion dollars in his first 10 days in Congress. Then he is gonna pay off every debt in the world and then go to his cabin with no running water.

Dan:
Your last comment was nonsensical. I would say you are losing it, but I’m not convinced you ever had it in the first place.

Tom believes every cut and paste television commercial he sees on TV.
The press conference was very powerful!
Congressman Ashwin Madia. Get used to it.
October 20th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
No, I didn’t need to see any commercials to see that Madia is a liar. I’ve been following this race since Ramstad announced his retirement, so I have seen many of Madia’s lies first hand. I knew about every one of those lies, before I even saw them on TV commercials.
I did not see the whole press conference, but I did see a report on it on channel 11. Madia came across very badly. They had a clip of Erik saying that the visit just showed Madia would be a rubber stamp for Pelosi’s policies, and then they showed David Dillion reiterating the point by saying that Pelosi was just there to check on her 4 million dollar investment.
Madia looked terrible as usual. Why does Madia always look so squinty? Seriously do you know?

Serously, very seriously…
Has Erik Paulsen ever uttered a single word of a positive message that voters can understand?
Even once?

Tell me if Madia plans to help solve our economic problems and produce jobs, then why doesn’t he pay worker’s benefits to his consultants/campaign workers? No health care benefits, no employment taxes, no workers comp, no social security… don’t his workers deserve to have benefits?
