MRS. FRANKEN TRIES TO CALM FRANKEN DOWN DURING DEBATE

By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 24, 2008

Even Franni Franken, the candidate’s wife, tried to get into the act. She put her hands in the air while the candidates were talking about gun rights — albeit from the audience where Franken likely couldn’t see her — as if to tell her husband to calm down.

Franken at the time was demanding of host Eric Escola to cite where they read he supports limiting access to guns.

‘Can you cite one?’ he demanded. ‘I support the Second Amendment.’

The Coleman campaign immediately after the debate was all too happy to provide a sheet of citations with Franken’s past writings and words about guns. The Coleman campaign claimed that in an interview on Minnesota Public Radio, Franken said that he would like hand gun control in urban centers.

‘I don’t like it when someone is allowed to buy a hundred guns,’ according to their transcript.” Source: Pioneer Press, October 24, 2008

If Franni had her hands in the air, it was likely because the question was so absurd.

Well Aaron, if the Pioneer Press states it, it must be true. I’m sure the Strib will pick up on it soon to be a more acceptable burden of proof for you.

Are we sure she didn’t “rush the stage” tonight?
Did any of the “reporters” talk to Mrs. Franken, to see why she reportedly raised her arms, or are they just guessing what was happening? Perhaps she was just signalling that her husband’s answer had scored.

Franken did seem “out of it” during this debate. The most charitible explaination was that he was very tired.
There were gaffes (which won’t get picked up by the mainstream press) where Franken referred to “Osama” Barak before catching himself. Another is the Franken’s Social Security solvent until around 2040. Dean Barley correctly pointed out that the is federal IOU’s not Fed notes. Also, Franken’s 2040 date for Social Security represents the so-called “burn rate” to zero. The lefties like “sustainable” and spending down to zero isn’t.

As for the large gun buys, here is story I did in 2000. http://jumbal.com/gunsting.htm

THE COMPLETE STRAW GUN PURCHASE STORY

    POSTED JANUARY 14. 2000

I asked Mark Koscielski of KGS Guns about the Minneapolis Star Tribune article posted at Sara Olson Defense website. Here is Mark’s side of the story.

Someone (LaShawn Slayden ?) came in with a permit and purchased 15 guns. Since computer crosschecks can take three months to detect bulk purchases Mark immediately contacted the ATF and the other local gun stores. The ATF set up a sting and informed the gun stores to keep selling the guns while the ATF monitored and set up a sting. Word got out and there were more straw buyers but the ATF continued to tell the gun stores to keep selling the guns. By Mark’s estimate approximately 1,000 guns were sold by all local gun stores before the ATF and David Lillehaug, the U.S. attorney for Minnesota finally shut down the sting, in large part due to the gun stores protesting that way too many guns were getting on the streets.

Logical conclusion: David Lillehaug, the U.S. attorney for Minnesota let the sting go on way beyond what was needed to get convictions. One reason for that much touted Federal prosecution 95% conviction rate is that the Federal Prosecutors seemed to need a case well beyond a “slam-dunk” before they will prosecute. SaraOlsonDefense.com and the Minneapolis Star Tribune seems to imply that the gunstores were at fault when the gunstores appear to only be doing what the feds instructed them to do.

If Franni was seated in a location where her husband could not see her, how, exactly, could it be that she was acting to modify his behavior?

Is the Pioneer Press questioning her mental abilities, or should we be questioning theirs for reporting such an absurd thing?

Aaron, if your plan for defending Coleman relies on smearing one of the most respected journalists in Minnesota politics, oh wait, you already did that once with Tom Hauser.

    Aron:

Franken last night demonstrated that he doesn’t care about reality.

    * He said that we have had tax cuts for the rich, but not the middle class. I got a tax cut because my rate was cut! What liberals complain about is that because a person making $250,000 gets thousands of dollars for each point of a rate cut compared with hundred for a rate cut making $40,000 that tax cuts have only been given to the rich. For me that couple of hundred is a lot of money and Franken technically supports their repeal.

    * Franken only cares about corruption with defense contractors. Why wasn’t Franken complaining Coleman hadn’t properly investigated Fannie Mae which caused this mess?

    * Franken tried to pretend he hadn’t written anything against guns. Franken was just saying things to try to show gun owners you don’t have anything to worry about me. Sure I remember George Bush and his read my lips. Gun owners now this is bull.

Franken’s lack of being qualified is catching up with him.

I sensed that Al was starting to wake up and smell the roses…he knows he’s going to get spanked, and spanked badly in November and he’s giving us a little taste of what it’s going to be like for his campaign staffers when the results come in.

I’m sticking with my assertion that Al will have his circus train on the way back to NYC within a week of his drubbing.
