DISAPPOINTMENT FOR TEAM MADIA: NO STAR TRIBUNE ENDORSEMENT; EDITORIAL RIPS MADIA’S POSITION ON EFCA
By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 27, 2008
In an embarrassing blow to Ashwin Madia’s campaign, the Star Tribune refused to endorse his candidacy in the 3rd CD. This was Madia’s endorsement to lose and he lost it – big time. The editorial ripped Madia’s position on the so-called Employee Free Choice Act.
From the endorsement:
“At the same time, we can’t quite shake concerns that Madia’s knowledge of key issues is wide, but not deep enough. Health care reform requires more than the efficiencies he emphasizes. His call for more education funding is good, but money alone won’t solve school ills. And how does this new funding square with his call to cut spending?
At the last debate, Madia was less polished on policy than his two rivals and repeated an error made in his endorsement interview — that the Employee Free Choice Act would not allow a unionization drive to bypass a secret ballot.” Source: Star Tribune, October 27, 2008

How exactly was it Madia’s to lose? Especially when the.board’s colors show through when they say Paulsen isn’t acting conservative enough?
The article also confirms what everyone in CD3 already know… Paulsen refuses to take a position on issues.

Even the Star Tribune, a well known liberal rag, can’t find any depth in Madia. That is what all of us have been saying.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:20 AM
“But Paulsen’s endorsement interview was disappointing. His answers on energy, health care and foreign policy lacked depth, detail and vision. Paulsen performed better at debates, but did not make the case that he has the depth needed to be a strong, independent leader in Congress.
Paulsen was a fiscal and social conservative in the Legislature, voting for measures that this newspaper opposed. Why he’s casting himself as a moderate in this race is unclear. His conservative credentials are solid; he should have run on them.”

Oh, it’s very clear why Paulsen’s “casting himself as a moderate” – Paulsen’s as phony as a career politician can get. The Strib is clearly saying that, without saying that.
And Michael? You think this non-endorsement in the third is “an embarassement for Madia”??!?
ROFLMAO!!!

In my humble opinion they are endorsing Dillon but afraid to endorse an Independence Party Candidate because the IP is not from either of the other 2 major party.
What a bunch of chickens. Don’t like either of the ones from their 2 favorite parties so let’s not endorse any of them.
Chickens !!

They also said:
David Dillon, an entrepreneur and CEO of Meyers Printing Companies Inc., has grown into an impressive, multifaceted candidate. At debates, the Independence Party candidate demonstrated a deep grasp of the issues. He’s smart, likable and genuine, offering up real-world perspective as a businessman who’s grappled with health care costs and immigration. He also gets points for telling the brutal truth about ballooning federal entitlements.
Don’t you want a candidate that has a grasp of what is going on?
The part of him not having a party to caucus with is a load of bull. Being an Independent would give him a better position because either of the other 2 would be seeking him out when it comes to what they want. Electing Dillon would be telling the rest of the Country that Minnesota is sick and tired of partisian politics and we want to get our country back on track and change things from a do nothing congress to a congress that is effective. Can you also imagine having a The House, Senate and White House all dominated by one party – again? Having an Independent candidate would be a key vote for Minnesota and really put things right. I just can’t say it enough. Voting for David Dillon is voting to put this country back on track. Hell, my X wife – who hates pretty much everything I do or a part of is voting Dillon because of what he stands for. That is telling in of its self.

I love it, Michael! You took $3,000 from Paulsen in this last few months to be his “part time researcher” and slimer and the only thing you can come up with is they didn’t endorse the opposition? Pretty sad.
The Strib is so different after the purchase that I’ll never pay for another copy. I’m amazed they didn’t canonize Paulsen – if he had come out as himself, i.e., the rightwing evangelical religious extremist that he is, they probably would have.

The Strib had no choice but to move towards the center. It was getting much too expensive to print all of those pictures to get the message out to the moonbat base.
Paulson’s going to have his work cut out for him next year, keeping all of the leftist assnozzles in their place…we’ll be counting on him.
Losing the Rammer is going to be tough on the Democrats.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:41 AM
You are right swifter, Paulsen is going to have his work cut out for him trying to control all of those liberals working at Target HQ
October 28th, 2008 at 8:55 AM
The embarrassment belongs to the Strib for their failure to endorse a graduate of the University of Minnesota, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and a future congressman of the United States.
Fortunately the readers of Minnesota (i.e. voters) are smarter than the hometown editorial staff of a declining newsroom.
Can’t wait to see what the Strib will say in 2010 when Madia is running for re-election . . . if they’re not yet extinct.

Nana:
Madia reminds me of another former marine that bad mouths the military and citizens of his district John Murtha. Minnesota doesn’t need a man who doesn’t respect the military especially because his service made him think that we have the wrong policy.
Madia said we need to get out of Iraq with honor. The Democrat policy was getting out of Iraq with period. That is not honor. He just masks retreat and surrender as honor. That is a man who doesn’t care about his marine roots.
He might be a marine, but he’s not behaving like one.
And bashing the rich shows he’s not a leader. He just a mob organizer who is organizing a mob to beat and take money from the rich just beause the mob out numbers the victims of the mugging he wants to do.

So, Walter – you have no problemo with a guy that has a long track record of bein’ a rightwinger, but ditches that heritage for political expediency, like Paulsen has done?

“Madia reminds me of another former marine that bad mouths the military and citizens of his district John Murtha. Minnesota doesn’t need a man who doesn’t respect the military especially because his service made him think that we have the wrong policy.”
When again has Madia ever ‘bad mouthed” the military or citizens of the district?
October 28th, 2008 at 10:01 AM
He hasn’t ever done that, PD.
Walter’s just acting like his usual asshole self, and makin’ shit up.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:53 AM
It seems that even the Strib editors understand the Employee Free Choice Act.
Anybody want to “man up” and admit they were wrong on this topic?
I won’t hold my breath.

I heard an ad from Keith X Hakim Ellison yesterday claiming that “rich CEO’s were lying to [us] about EFCA”…all I could think of was George McGovern, shaking his head in disgust.
George left the Democrat party just about the time it turned into the Party of Scrubs.

Gee, they didn’t endorse Paulsen either. I would say that is the real story. A disappointing candidate who didn’t run on his credentials. Pretty damning to me.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:48 AM
One of my problems I have With Madia is he is running on his war/ military record. Great for you and thank you for your service. I know you dealt with different people over there to get your job done. Great for that. But what have you done since you returned? What have you run besides a track? Paulsen? He keeps harping that he is moderate but his record show otherwise. He keeps saying that he has the ability to reach across the aisle yet as Majority Leader in 2005 our government shut down. That is not leadership.
Dillon? As a CEO of a company it is sort of like running a government. He has to make decisions that affect a lot of people. He has personal insight as to how to make Health Care more affordable for all involved. He has a very good understanding on economics and can better evaluate how bills will affect people better than either of these 2 can.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:54 AM
Has anyone noticed this or is it just me. When Madia speaks he has the same type of voice that one of our leaders has? Low, raspy tone to it. He reminds me of Slick Willy Clinton.

Although the strib is a liberal paper they are not stupid enough to fail to do their homework. Ash the weenie boy is an unemployed basement dweller. He joined the military to pay for law school and spent 4-5 months in Iraq behind a desk. The only action he saw was when he found some combat gear and went outside to take a photo for his scrap book. He likely spent the majority of his time editing legal papers that someone else wrote. His lack of job performance when he returned was obvious, when Ciresi gave him his walking papers and endorsed the other candidate running for the DFL endorsement. His Chicago style politics is his greatest asset. ha! Do anything you have to to win. He lied about voting for Bush in 2000, and although he says he switched parties in 2003 after going to Iraq, he forgot to vote for Kerry! The big joke is some people in the 3rd actually think he is legit!

Plymouth:
He was calling for us to get out of Iraq before the surge was implemented. That is based on comments of lots of members of the armed forced who have been intereviewed is let us finish what we started.
Lets us win.
The fact that he called for retreat and surrender before we won which is what Madia’s policy is, “IS BAD MOUTHING THE TROOPS”
Now that I have shown you that he has bad mouthed the troops you will certainly not vote for him!

I’m not that A word. The fact that you throwing swear words at me shows I hit a homreun and you know that Madia isn’t worth a vote from anyone!

joe shmoe…Madia was not canned by Ciresi, he quit to be able to campaign full time. Ciresi decided to support Bonoff because he was irritated so many of his employees (lawyers who worked with Ashwin) decided to support Madia with checks, not Ciresi….poor Mike had to bankroll himself because he couldn’t energize anybody new to believe in his candidacy. Then he dropped out of the race after he wrote himself a check for $2 million for his campaign, and then decided he wanted the money for retirement instead. And Walter, lets get real…you think we can win the war in Iraq? You must be residing in a similar parallel universe as Paulsen, you know the one where we expect the generals to set policy and direction for the U.S.A. That’s not how it works…the Pres. & Congress got us in this war and a new Pres. (Obama) and Congress (including Madia) will get us out Responsibly…Madia is the only candidate that has a clue about Iraq or the real way the military works. It’s also interesting that when your guy Erik gets his ass handed to him by the Strib. editorial staff, you have no comment about him, so you go after Madia…let me see, the Strib hates Unions so they also hate EFCA..makes sense.
