MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “AL FRANKEN CAN’T NAME A SINGLE THING HE ACCOMPLISHED ON BEHALF OF THE STATE”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | November 2, 2008

St. Paul – Republican Party of Minnesota Chair Ron Carey reacted to Al Franken’s inability to name a single thing he’s accomplished on behalf of Minnesota.

“When Norm Coleman asked Al Franken to name three things he has done to contribute to the Minnesota quality of life, Al Franken couldn’t. Only one candidate in this race has a record of working across party lines to get things done for Minnesota and that’s Norm Coleman.”

Well, this is a nice lie.

He gave three examples that I can remember: (1) the helmets things (yeah, in case you forgot, we have Minnesota troops in Iraq and Afghanistan); (2) work at substance abuse centers (yep, have those in Minnesota); and (3) speaking engagements for local charities.

But, keep up the lies. They’re working great for you.

I was at the debate sitting in the front row, and Al struggled to come up with three things.

Plymouth Dem, you forgot to mentioned how long it took him to come up with something and how choppy his response was at the debate. Al did not name one charity event or organiztion that he had helped. He simply said, “I’ve raised money for charities that give money to other charities.” The helmut thing? The one decent act he has done as a shock jock and he says, helmut thing? My God, he could not even find the common sense to say something like – I helped organize an effort to better our troops equipment. No, he is such a dipstick and says – helmut thing.

This is the guy you want to our Senator? If he elected, he will have to go back to help those with substance abuse because a lot more people will be hitting sauce if people really vote him into office.

Vote for Norm on Tuesday and send Al back to Saturday Night Live.

    Danny Boy,

First, I’m glad you agree with me that the GOP is lying and that he did name several things. Second, “helmet thing” was my language, that wasn’t how he explained it.

    PlymouthDem is right.

Danny Boy, being in the front row makes no difference. I was in the back row!!!!!!! I heard it too! PlymouthDem is right. The MNGOP is a LYING SACK OF WHATEVER.

Well I watched the clip of this part of the debate at theuptake.org website.
Franken mentioned 1. working with Dr. Bob on Operation Helmet, 2. Visiting chemical dependency centers to try and help people to become sober, and 3. raising money for charities to help people experiencing problems with housing etc.
He also mentioned that if Congress had done their job , and properly equipped our troops, Operation Helmet wouldn’t have been neccesary. Who was one of the MN Senators at that time? That’s right, Coleman.

Franken would likely have been more eloquent in his delivery if Norm didn’t jump in every other word like a desperate candidate on the verge of losing to try and alter the question he had already asked.

I listened on the radio, and his inability to let Al answer drew the loudest boos of the entire event.

Next to his non-answers to the corruption charges, that question sounded to be Norm’s lowest point in the debate, so I am rather surprised the republicans are choosing to use it. But, then again, this is the party that chose the lesser of two evils when they endorsed accused criminal Norm Coleman over convicted criminal Jack Shepard.

Ilove it when Democrats cry! Democrats are big babies. Say where is that big fat baby, twoputttommy? Did he move to Canada again?

The best thing that Al can say is that he didn’t steal from any charities in Minnesota.

What a riot it was to watch Franken squirm for an answer. He tried stalling to run out the clock with some rambling comments that he really had 9 accomplishments.

When he was admonished to keep it to 3, you could see he was squirming and finally came up with the Minnesota accomplishment of campaigning to charities (the Franken spin is he tried to raise money for them).

TOM SWIFT IS A BIG FAT LIAR!! FRANKEN NEVER STOLE A PENNY AND THE CHARITY HAS EVERY PENNY OF THEIR MONEY!

  12. Swiftee Says:
    November 3rd, 2008 at 10:03 AM

Screaming a lie doesn’t make it any less of a lie, Flash.

The fact that the childrens charity that Al and his pals stole from got their money back doesn’t change the fact that it was taken illegally in the first place.

Stealing from underpriveledged kids….does it get any lower than that?

    Pffft.

Calm down, little mooonbat. Have a nice big glass of kool-aid and calm down.

Tomorrow the rational, thoughful adults of Minnesota will send your slate of assnozzle candidates back to the feverswamp, and you all can get back to spewing your hatred for America.

BarbK, two questions. Is a Senator responsible for equipping the National Guard? Wasn’t Paul Wellstone in that seat prior to the war also?

  14. Flash Says:
    November 3rd, 2008 at 10:45 AM

Tom, stinking your fingers in your ear yelling lalalalala doesn’t change the facts which you ignore. It is one thing to debate opinion, but facts are facts, and you continue to ignore them.

May God bless you during this difficult time!

Just because Al is going down in a ball of flames tomorrow, I’m going to lower myself to seriously respond to a moonbat…just this once.

Al Franken pocketed money he knew had been stolen from a childrens charity.

“Mr. Cohen said, however, he would be “shocked” if Air America investors did not know of the transfers before November, when they [and Al Franken] signed the agreement”

It was actually a hopeful sign that Al was embaressed enough to lie about it…

“In an interview with the Sun on August 1, Mr.Franken said he did not know anything about the transfers from the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club until late the previous month. He said he did not know whether the $875,000 was absorbed by the radio network or not, and he characterized the network’s decision to pay back Gloria Wise as a “moral obligation.”"

But his follow up lie was classic lefty BS..

“Yesterday, Mr. Franken stood by his earlier statement. He said that, on the advice of his lawyer, Gunnar Erickson, he signed the agreement last fall that erased legal claims he had against Messrs. Cohen and Sorensen because they owed him money, but he said he did not see the list of liabilities that included the Gloria Wise transfers.”

“Uh, yeah…I signed that stack of legal documents, but I didn’t inhale”

    Pffft.

The money was paid back…because they got caught, but without interest.

“Mr. Cohen, 39, said the Gloria Wise transfers, which he termed “loans”,/strong> that were to be paid back with no interest, was one of the things that he regretted.”

Until recently, Cohen was the only one calling this scam a loan..The city of New York called it a scam and closed down Gloria Wise. Of course now Al Franken’s supporters have taken up that lie.

Al Franken took money he knew had been stolen from kids. Period. End of story.

You support a real scumbag, Flash. Nice…reeeeal nice.

  16. BarbaraK Says:
    November 3rd, 2008 at 2:53 PM

Just to be clear on Franken’s non involvement with the Gloria Wise scandal: Franken didn’t take a loan from Gloria Wise, he was merely an employee of the company that did. It’s kind of crazy to claim that Al Franken benefitted from the Gloria Wise money, when the only reason his name is brought up in the settlement document is to state that he was NOT and investor in Air America Radio, and that he was signing the document only to forgive the owners of the company money that he was due. He was working without being paid. So that the network could change hands and keep operating, he forfeited his right to collect pay that he was due. Anyone that has read about the story knows that Evan Cohen was the person that got the loan from Gloria Wise. Al Franken had nothing to do with it.

  17. Swiftee Says:
    November 3rd, 2008 at 3:34 PM

Barbara, your either incredibly stupid, or you’re lying….it’s hard to tell with Democrats sometimes.

Franken pocketed hundreds of thousands of dollars that came directly out of the Gloria Wise bank account.

He was getting paid, just not paid as much as he wanted.

God knows, AirScamerica was stealing as fast as they could, but Al was demanding millions to spew hatred on the air and it was tough to keep up with his demands for payment.

  18. BarbaraK Says:
    November 3rd, 2008 at 4:45 PM

Franken has been quote as saying on air “About three weeks into the life of Air America, I became an involuntary investor — I stopped being paid,”

    The following NYT article
    “http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9A0DE1DB1F3EF932A05756C0A9629C8B63
quotes Franken as saying “he had agreed not to draw a salary”. The article was written 2 moths after AAR started broadcasting. Franken has previously said that the employees were misled by the owners. They were led to believe the company had enough money to operate for three years, when in reality it was just enough money to last 3 weeks. this is backed up by the NYT article which states “By late April, current and former executives said last week, the company was perilously close to running out of money.” Again the company started broadcasting on March 31.

You can claim whatever you want about Franken taking money from the charity, but there is nothing in the Gloria Wise settlement documents that indicates Franken was benefitting from what Evan Cohen was doing. In fact as I previously stated, Franken had to sign away any claim he had to receive pay he was due, so the tranfer of ownership could take place.

So, 3 weeks after AAR launched, Al Franken stopped getting paid.

Typical republican BS, blaming an employeee for the sins of their employer.
    Nice job!

“So, 3 weeks after AAR launched, Al Franken [said he] stopped getting paid.”

Umm, you do know that Franken is a pathological liar, don’t you?

And for you, it’s a combination of stupidity and mendacity…imagine our surprise.

  20. BarbaraK Says:
    November 3rd, 2008 at 11:52 PM

Do you have proof that after 3 weeks, Franken didn’t stop being paid? You can call people names if you’d like, I don’t care. But it is time for you to put up or shut up. If you have evidence to the contrary, let’s see it.
