COLEMAN FOR U.S. SENATE PRESS RELEASE: “COLEMAN CAMPAIGN RETAINS HEFFELFINGER TO HEAD UP EFFORTS TO ENSURE A FAIR AND ETHICAL RECOUNT EFFORT”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | November 5, 2008

ST. PAUL – Newly re-elected United States Senator Norm Coleman announced today that respected former United States Attorney Thomas Heffelfinger has been retained to head up the Senator’s efforts to ensure that a state recount of the election results from yesterday are conducted in the fairest and most ethical manner.

According to Heffelfinger, he agreed to head up the Senator’s efforts because he believes that the election was not only conducted fairly throughout the state by the multiple county elections offices, but that it is imperative that the recount process be dedicated to counting every vote and not creating other sideline issues for partisan, political purposes.

“I’m quite concerned about the sudden disappearance of nearly 250 votes over the course of two hours after the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office had reported that the office had tabulated 100% of the votes of Minnesotans,” said Heffelfinger. “The Secretary of State must ensure, without delay, the security of all ballots in the state, and to ensure that the voters of Minnesota have the highest degree of confidence that their votes are being protected aggressively.”

And as normal, the final vote count will continue to be in flux until all typos and other human errors are eliminated. This is normal procedure, and why a state election board always meets later to certify results.

It usually has no impact on a race, but in this case the difference is less than 1/100ths of one percent, which is why all this bluster by the Republicans makes then look, as Michelle Bachmann would phrase it, “unAmerican” for trying to circumvent the legal election process which calls for an automatic recount.

It would be easy for the DFL to suddenly create, ah… er… find enough additional votes for Franken in Minneapolis to flip the election.

An excellent idea to get competent legal help to ensure this doesn’t happen.

Now I see why even the king of incompetence, George Bush, wanted to fire Heffelfinger.

The 250 votes weren’t subtracted from Norm. They were ADDED to Al. Someone in Two Harbors forgot a digit. With an attention to detail like this, Norm may get third place yet.

And is it safe to assume that Norm, who had begged like a pathetic small child to skip the recount will now be participating fully and trying to disqualify as many legal voters as possible?

No. Why on earth would it be safe to assume that?
As it stands, Coleman received the most votes. In other words, he won. He has no need to win by a wider margin than he already has. There is simply no reason for him to want to reduce his opponent’s tally.

Now, Al on the other hand…

The libtards stole thye election in King county WA and will try again here.

Acorn will offer to manufactor as vote as needed for DFL staffer to “Find”

Close Circuit to all democrats: We will be meeting at the same place we usually go to burn American Flags, preform unnecessary abortions and gay kiss each other to fill out bogus ballots to steal this election. If you have never been to the flag-burning, abortion-having gay kiss place, ask your democratic friends. We need a ton of help, but CAN’T let republicans know where it is, or what we are doing. If you have a spare hour, come on down and fill out a stack of ballots. Fill out 1,000 and you get a free Weather Underground umbrella personally signed by William Ayres!

    That is all.

Heffelfinger is known for screwing people over, so it’s fitting he is heading the Coleman effort.

I filled out every ballot ACORN gave me the same way…there is no discrepency.

There is glaring error in the lead sentence! “Newly re-elected. . .” is simply wrong. Sen. Coleman has NOT been re-elected because the counting is not complete. By law, after the Canvassing Board reports its results (which presumably will show Coleman with a lead of several hundred votes, but well within the .50% margin that triggers an automatic re-count)the the re-count will proceed. Until such a time as the re-count is completed and the Canvassing Board meets again to certify the results of the re-count, it is incorrect to assert that Mr. Coleman is “newly re-elected”.

The re-count is not a formality like the Electoral College or the certification of dozens of other races. There is very real possibility that Al Franken may actually have more votes that Sen. Coleman. Is it just as likely that the re-count will show that Sen. Coleman has the most votes. But, research has shown that for statewides races, the error rate is about .01 (one-tenth of one percent) so that it is likely at least 3,000 ballots will be added to or deleted from one candidate’s totals.

So how long does it take to produce 3000 (new) ballots and sneak into the pile?

  11. DJZ Says:
    November 6th, 2008 at 2:32 PM

There are 6000 ballots that the machines could not read that the commission were going to have to hand count anyway. You got that?

You can’t fill out ballots and put them in a pile. The number on the machine and names signed in better match.

Oh and most importantly, Coleman is too slimy for ol’ Hef as he stepped down today from that post representing Coleman.
