Victory-
November 5th, 2008 at 4:45 AM
President-Elect Barack HUSSIEN Obama
Andy Faulk beats three time loser
Dean Carlson gets 28% after sending out racist mail piece.
DFLers grow majority in the House.
Democrats grow members in US Senate and US House.
victory?
November 5th, 2008 at 5:02 AM
And how much more did the DFL spend than the GOP for those two state House seats DJZ?
November 5th, 2008 at 5:02 AM
Well got to hand it to him for a good win. Brodkorb finally won an election (a rare one) for a campaign he worked for. But thats a small ray of light on an otherwise bleak night for the GOP.
November 5th, 2008 at 5:52 AM
Buh bye, Ashwipe….buh bye. Carpet baggers DO NOT WIN!
November 5th, 2008 at 6:31 AM
How is 8% “pounds” when Ramstad always won 65-35, 65-35, 72-28? Seems to me the slime brought them both down, frankly. Very saddening to see Dillon take such a slice of the pie. It would have been interesting to see the real results had we had IRV. So, congratulations to Erik and his slimers. I laughed when I heard his speech wanting to represent us all and work for all of us. Right. Not too convinced. Certainly after the comments by supporters and employees here.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:37 AM
Good to see that the voters in both the 6th and the 3rd rejected Democrat candidates promising more free cheese.
Madia was a dip shit. What an arrogant, dishonest s.ob. Good riddance, moron.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:55 AM
I actually thought it wasn’t a bad night for the GOP. The U.S. Senate is still able to filibuster, the MN House isn’t veto proof, and Obama will make the economy worse and will need to take all of the blame along with the congress. We can all hope nothing much gets accomplished in the next 2 years. One thing that will definitely happen is the loss of jobs and businesses. That should set things up nicely in 2010.
Hope the Republicans learned a lesson in all of this, and as usual, the Dems will overplay their hands. It’s going to be a rough 2-4 years with these idiots in charge. Should be Jimmy Carter II.
It could have been much worse.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:07 AM
Actually, looking at the 3rd 6th and the Senate race, Ashwin did not throw enough mud. The Dems had enough space until the mud started slinging.
As far as the senate goes, the moderates returned. Just like Bush before Katrina, the Senate stands behind popular candidate and this President is going in very popular. The gang of seven will rule.
Who said Faulk was going to lose?
Who thought Dave Carlson would gain any ground on the eastside of st paul after I told you he needs brown and black votes to win and that mailing was a play on race to white bigots?
The DFL House incresed its majority.
If Norm and Ted Stevens go back, they will both be under clouds of legal questions.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:09 AM
It won’t take long for the Obama administration to show major incompetence, we got rid of some Rino’s and hopefully we can
rebuild the conservative leadership. McCain will switch parties and if Coleman wins this, maybe he will wake up and realize no matter how often he votes with liberals, they will attempt to destroy him in every election.
Of course, it’s just as likely that so much damage will be done to our country we might never recover.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:10 AM
Nothing will change. Watch what bills will be passed and follow the money trail. You had an honest guy running and by majority vote he lost. Ok, big time lost. But had he been slimy enough to take special interest money and be bought and paid for like Paulsen and Madia the outcome would have been different. I am glad for people like David Dillon. He was is a voice of reason and we will continue to be hearing from him in the future.
Congrats to Erik Paulsen.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:12 AM
President Obama will just let the Bush upperclass tax cuts expire in 2010 and immediatly work on the middle class tax cuts. That will get enough Senate Republicans to vote with and secure success and favorability early on.
What, are the Republicans going to refuse a middle class tax cut?
November 5th, 2008 at 7:13 AM
Look at all the deflection away from the original post: Paulsen wiped the Ashtray.
I can’t think of a more deserving person to win this. Congratulations, Erik.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:14 AM
Looks like Norm won according to the TV stations. Wonder if Leroy and Flounder are in each other’s arms cuddling and crying right now!
Based on Flounder’s obession with naked men, it wouldn’t surprise me.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:20 AM
“pounds” – still classy, michael, classy.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:23 AM
“One thing that will definitely happen is the loss of jobs and businesses.”
Yeah, that and you can expect the Democrats 700 Billion Dollar Wall Street Bailout to be stolen and re-directed. That cash is gone baby gone.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:28 AM
“Actually, looking at the 3rd 6th and the Senate race, Ashwin did not throw enough mud.”
Yeah, your right Ziggy. Ashwin didn’t commit enough slander or tell enough lies. What a dishonest pile of shit. Glad he’s gone.
“this President is going in very popular.”
No question he won. There’s also no question that 48 percent of the country wanted someone else. There’s also no question that he’s an EEOC president. He lacks the knowledge, experience and talent to govern well. He’ll fuck this thing up worse than Carter.
“I told you he needs brown and black votes to win and that mailing was a play on race to white bigots?”
You’re a dumb, foolish fascist piece of shit Ziggy. That mailing did no such thing. One can’t help, however, that blacks are so racist as to vote knee-jerk for the party who keeps them in their place.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:30 AM
“What, are the Republicans going to refuse a middle class tax cut?”
The Republicans HAD BETTER BLOCK OBAMA’S WEALTH RE-DISTRIBUTION. The HAD BETTER BLOCK any legislation that cuts checks to those who pay no taxes.
THEY HAD GODDAM BETTER BLOCK OBAMA’S SOCIALIST BULLSHIT.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:54 AM
Ashwin Madia proved an impressive candidate. In the end, I truly believe that he lost not because he was Indian, or because of Dillon, or because of Paulsen’s negative ads, but because nobody knew the guy. I’m mean really knew the guy.
It takes more than 10 months of watching someone campaign for a cautious 3rd CD voter to buy-in to a candidate. They need to show that they have worked on behalf of the community. Erik did this at the legislature. Dillon was a relatively well-known business owner in the community. Madia… well, truth be told, he was seen as a carpetbagger by a few too many people.
November 5th, 2008 at 8:15 AM
Mark….how do you give credit to the Dems for the 700 billion bailout when the president is still a GOP’er….you know, Bush….and it’s his and his treasury secretary Paulson’s plan? It is time for accountability. McCain ran against Bush, too. It’s time for the GOP to recognize bad policy when they see it. Every time something is bad you can’t blame it on the Dems. They aren’t in power – yet. Bush/Cheney still hold the power until January. They set the agenda. They appoint the cabinet. They have filibuster and veto power. It’s their government until January.
November 5th, 2008 at 8:52 AM
“how do you give credit to the Dems for the 700 billion bailout when the president is still a GOP’er….you know, Bush….and it’s his and his treasury secretary Paulson’s plan?”
It started as Bush’s plan. That larded up piece of shit that the Democrats crammed down are throats was THEIR plan.
To be even more clear, you should always run from any Bush proposal that has wide-spread enthusiasm from Democrats.
The Bush bill was a piece of shit. The Democrat legislation that passed was a truck load of shit.
“It’s time for the GOP to recognize bad policy when they see it.”
We did, dumb shit.
“Every time something is bad you can’t blame it on the Dems.
Take your own advice, dummy.
“They aren’t in power – yet.”
Democrats have been in power since 2006. Where the fuck have you been?
Be clear, this mess is Democrats mess. I don’t want to hear a peep out of you assholes for two more years.
November 5th, 2008 at 8:59 AM
…..YIKES! …. who dressed Michelle Obama last night??
I think it would be a class act for Palin to give her some of those nice dresses.
November 5th, 2008 at 9:27 AM
“I think it would be a class act for Palin to give her some of those nice dresses.”
Michelle doesn’t need the charity. She got a $200,000 raise from the hospital where she redirects those without health insurance to other institutions after her husband ear-marked a million dollars there.
When Democrats steer money to their wives employers to give their wives a pay raise, that’s just good socialism.
November 5th, 2008 at 9:56 AM
Mark…..wow! Very interesting post. I just forwarded it to Erik Paulsen through his website. I want to know what part of the district he plans to represent since I will be living here and certainly didn’t deserve that type of “respect” from his side for my post. Your comments are what I’ve come to expect from the GOP and then you have the nerve to question why no one from the DFL will vote for your side.
I listened to Paulsen’s comments last night. I heard someone who is delusional enough to think he will represent everyone in the 3rd. Obviously you didn’t get the memo. He’s not just the GOP representative. He’s THE 3rd district representative. Some of us did not vote for him (many of us, in fact) and certainly won’t be won over by your type of “bi-partisanship”. Your type of “bi-partisanship” is what we’ve come to expect from Paulsen through his work in the house and from his campaign. Thanks for reinforcing that view. It does prove the point previously made. Paulsen talks a good line but he doesn’t walk it – and his supporters certainly don’t.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:14 AM
“Paulsen talks a good line but he doesn’t walk it – and his supporters certainly don’t.”
WMD – I know the wound is fresh, but I urge you to realize Paulsen’s supporters were as varied in their politics as Madia’s probably were.
I don’t condone what others here have said, but I did vote for Paulsen. I voted for him for a few reasons that I think you can buy in to:
- He is a student, first and foremost. He seeks to understand issues, to know the numbers, to study. That impressed me. He has more depth to his policy analysis than anyone who doesn’t know him gives him credit for. You can be assured that he will do his homework in DC.
- He understands that businesses are the lifeblood of 3rd CD family income. He knows that places like Cargill, United Health, Best Buy, and Medtronic (to name a few) are critical to the quality of life of the 3rd CD. The incomes people make from companies large and small are the lifeblood of 3rd CD families.
- I think you will find with Erik Paulsen that he is consistent. Assuming he carries on Ramstad’s tradition of townhall meetings, he will not be afraid to tell people things they may not want to hear. But he is nearly incapable of spin. If he has a personal fault, it is that he isn’t a master of rhetoric, but some will appreciate that.
Given him a chance. Keep in mind that as a legislator in EP, he was mandated to represent a wealthy suburban area in a conservative way. Now, he received 48% of the vote in a diverse District. I trust he will be smart enough to move toward the middle.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:19 AM
Hey West,
Get fucked. You socialist, anti-American assholes have wedged this country for eight whole years. You bitches don’t know what “bi-partisan” means. You deserve very bit of responses like mine.
Paulsen represents you, just as much as Obama, apparently, represents me. Suck it up cry-baby.
I’ll take Paulsen’s approach any day to the bullshit that Democrats have ran the Congress with for the last two years — nothing but dirty tricks, and silencing the opposition.
Democrats can all go to hell.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:25 AM
Mark Zist reminds me of a right-wing version of Al Franken.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:30 AM
DtM, I am absolutely terrified of Paulsen because of his ideological rigidity. I have no problem with his fiscal discipline. It’s his personal ideological identify that worries me beyond belief. I have actually spoken to him. After doing so, I was not only worried – I was scared.
Contrary to the opinions of the mainstream GOP, every issue isn’t about finances or taxes. There are issues that Paulsen is so far rightwing on that he scares many middle of the roaders.
To be honest. I was against Paulsen before I was for Ash Madia. I do not find Paulsen open, understanding nor considerate of other’s views. He wasn’t when several of us met him to speak with him on specific issues.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:32 AM
“I am absolutely terrified of Paulsen because of his ideological rigidity.”
To f’n bad. Go get counseling. Not all the lies Madia and the DCCC told could make your worst nightmares true. If you’re so stupid as to believe their horseshit, then you deserve to be terrified.
Idiot.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:47 AM
“There are issues that Paulsen is so far rightwing on that he scares many middle of the roaders.”
Be comforted in knowing that if Paulsen becomes another Bachmann in Congress, the 3rd will have nothing of it. The 3rd CD is decidely more centrist than the 6th.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:49 AM
Mark….you are such a wonderful ambassador for the new Paulsen administration. I hope they make you their poster boy. It will make his incumbency a short 2 year slog for everyone. You’re such a great representative of your party. With your anger possibly you can imagine what everyone else felt about living under Bush for the past 8 years.
Also. Watch your mouth. You don’t have the right to treat others with the condescension and language you use. If you were my child – because you are behaving like one – you’d have your mouth washed out with soap.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:57 AM
So WMD is afraid that Paulsen has principles? Shocking.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:59 AM
I’d like to see Paulsen partner with Kline to form a strong alliance that becomes a noted voice on conservative issues in the House, social and fiscal — to become the voice of reason and responsibility.
There’s a huge opportunity for him to learn from an effective and talented politician in Kline. And Lord knows that the congressional republicans have room for someone to step forward as a leader.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:05 AM
“With your anger possibly you can imagine what everyone else felt about living under Bush for the past 8 years.”
I’m sure the voices in your heads have helped you to imagine all sorts of nightmare scenarios.
At least I don’t have to read a bunch of retarded headlines about you retards seeking counseling for depression because your retard candidate lost.
“If you were my child – because you are behaving like one – you’d have your mouth washed out with soap.”
It’s sexy when you talk dirty to me. What do I have to do to get a spanking?
November 5th, 2008 at 11:10 AM
“you can imagine what everyone else felt about living under Bush for the past 8 years.”
Yeah, it must have been horrible for you asshole liberal shit heads to know that you weren’t going to be attacked by terrorists, that you could keep more of your hard-earned income and that the world is a safer place.
Yeah, much better under the Clinton regime where we placated terrorists, stole people’s income and let the military rot on the vine.
Of course, that’s pretty much Obama’s plan moving forward, so as you see a few thousand more Americans burning and getting killed in the next 4 years, remember that you bought it bitch.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Excuse me? Precisely which branch of service did you serve in to spout such bravado? I did wear the uniform of the US Army – proudly – and did earn honors and an honorable commendation for service. Can you say the same? What have you personally done to advance our security? From your comments, most likely nothing.
Again, watch your mouth. You don’t have the right to speak to others like that. You haven’t earned it.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:27 AM
“Precisely which branch of service did you serve in to spout such bravado?”
US Army, and yes, I can say the same, bitch.
The difference is that I support a strong offense and not a mealy-mouthed, half-assed approach to fighting terrorist. I want the terrorist fuckers and their supporters killed, stomped on and destroyed. And I don’t want any silly s.o.b. to get the idea that it’s a good idea to fuck with the U.S.A.
Clinton appeased and placated those bastards. 3,000 Americans died thanks to him, and fucks like you who support the Democrat agenda to retreat and surrender.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:30 AM
And I can speak to communist bitches like you however I damned well please.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Chestnut,
If you were to look at the results- oh I’m sorry. Let me speak in your native tongue “WAWAWAWAWWAAWWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWA”
November 5th, 2008 at 12:03 PM
Michael –
Can you get this Mark Zist guy out of here? He is adding nothing and the tone of his language is dragging down your blog.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:57 PM
Mark Zist is Chestnut. Its obvious. He has so much hatred he can’t express it with one personality.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:27 PM
Well, whoever mr. Marxist is, he is clearly demonstrating the reason Republicans have been pummeled in the last two elections.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:43 PM
I don’t think I’ll miss all the hatred on this blog…I really liked Madia and thought he’d be a great Congressman, but the voters thought otherwise. I just hope Paulsen can change enough to make a lot of us feel like he actually represents us…kinda like Rammer USED to be before he became totally partisan. We’ll see what the next two years brings us
November 5th, 2008 at 2:18 PM
Dan,
The reason Republicans have been pummeled in the last two elections is because the GOP acts like a bunch of mealy-mouthed liberals placating every child’s most ridiculous desires.
The GOP is fucked because they act like Democrats. There’s no difference between the RNC and the DNC. None.
Bi-partisanship is not the answer. Full-throated defense of conservative is… and that full-throated defense must be accompanied by clear, consistent follow-through in action.
Until Republicans figure that out, they’ll continue to get rolled by socialist shit heads such as those to trounced the party yesterday and in 2006.
Get that through your thick fucking skull.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:42 PM
“I don’t think I’ll miss all the hatred on this blog…”
We won’t miss you either rainman.
November 5th, 2008 at 3:09 PM
Hey David J. Ziegler, aren’t you busy running around with your fascist goon-squads breaking the necks of Democrats who send tips to MDE?
November 5th, 2008 at 3:30 PM
yay!!!
Shit Sandwich beat out Corporal Dillhole
November 5th, 2008 at 3:44 PM
Lets face it.. the democrats had such a wind at their back with the media on their side that a duck who was endorsed by the DFL party could have easily gotten 40% without campaigning.. so the way I figure it Madia out performed the duck by 1%.
November 5th, 2008 at 3:58 PM
DJZ:
You know the Minnesota GOP had a very good night tonight.
We lost Minnesota very close to the national margin, but we kept the total below the magic percent of 56% which Al Franken thought he needed to win.
Coleman won despite everything that the Democrats threw at him. In states where we lost five senate seats that is a major win. Not to mention if Lizzy Dole had a Coleman mentallity she will still be a US Senator today.
The Republicans lost a few open seats and given how the third has been changing as Democrats have been migrating to the inner suburbs Paulsen won an open seat that given what this year was suppose to be shouldn’t have happened.
John Kline cruised to an easy victory.
Michelle Bachman who if you ask most conservative Republicans represents everything that we stand for won her election despite getting Norm Coleman treatment for three weeks.
Just curious what is a middle class tax cut? Is it giving money to somebody who isn’t paying taxes? Right now there are a bunch of tax cuts that should be permanently encacted. And keep in mind a lot of people when they are polled think that the maximum the rich should pay in taxes is 25%. A couple of years ago the Star Tribune interviewed a man who said he supported the State DFL House tax plan because he thought the rich weren’t paying enough in taxes yet when asked to name what he thought was enough he named a tax rate lower than current law!

Mark:
When conservative Republicans run as conservative Republicans they win easily. Bachman, Kline, and Paulsen prove this.
Gutneck got in trouble and lost because he stopped being a conservative Republican.
Mccain lost (even though he made it close) because based on his beliefs he couldn’t counter what Obama was saying on global warming, energy, taxes, and a couple of other things. And note after he won the primary Obama went out and made his smooth talk sound very conservative! If he ran as the liberal he was in the primary he was going to lose big. It also helped him that the Main stream media covered up for him.

November 5th, 2008 at 4:40 PM
Walter, you don’t ask the questions anymore, I do. Your party lost again. Spin it how you like, Obama slammed McCain taking 10 red states with him and winning some states democrats haven’t won in a generation or two.
Your tax cut will be what he said it will be. The only free givaway to none taxpayers I know of is a little program by Reagan called the Earned Income Credit. Bush sent checks out too last spring hoping we’d all buy funds from Lehman Bros or AIG insurance. People got money based on their number of children not how much they paid in taxes- that’s called what now?
Later Loser.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:49 PM
I believe Walter is right.
I read today that a whole lot of GOP skipped out of this election again.
McCain and his moderate views obviously did not get conservatives motivated.
I actually feel liberated and at incredible relief. I voted McCain and wanted him to win, but The One pulled it off.
My local votes obviously counted with Paulsen and Coleman. Sweeeet!
Yes, the next 4 years will SUCK (maybe all the Supreme Court judges will even stay for the next four years), but now we get to sit back and not get savaged unfairly by the media any more. Dems are in total control now, and the ball is entirely in their court.
Now we get to sit back and bitch and bitch and bitch and point fingers. Tit for Tat time.
There will be nothing for nasty libs to blame Republicans for any more.
I’m kinda liking the freedom already! A whole lot less of the teeth grinding.
And, Mark Zist, I wholly agree with you. Keep up the good fight.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:46 PM
Hey, Diz-The middle class already got a tax cut under the ‘Bush tax cuts.’ And the next hurricane that does even 1 dollar of damage is already Obama`s fault. No, just kidding. But who do i remind you of?
November 5th, 2008 at 8:09 PM
DJZ:
You have heard of this thing called the first amendment. If you come on this website and make a foolish statement I and other people will question you on it. Just because your party’s president candidate won doesn’t give you the right to say I have to shut up.
Given that attitude nobody should have ever made jokes about killing George Bush!
Given that attitude nobody should have ever kept saying that George Bush was the worst president in history.
Given that attitude nobdy should ever make (especially because it was a teacher in a school today) that now you can be proud to be an American again!
I’m sorry DJZ you and the rest of the Democrats didn’t shut up for the last eight years so you DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT TO TELL ANOTHER AMERICAN TO SHUT UP! I can suggest you get off this website since you don’t want to talk about the issues apparently.
So DJZ it’s safe to assume since you want to duck the question that you think a tax cut is giving a government check to somebody who doesn’t pay taxes. Republicans like Paulsen and me along with other people on this post have the idea that tax cuts should go to people who pay taxes. You see we’re discussing an issue.
More important DJZ in the United States of America we’re allowed to do that! After all one reason why Obama won last night was he said he had ideas which were better (I personally think they’re worse) but for those people who think his ideas are wrong we can point to the fact that Bachman, Kline, Paulsen, and even Coleman were sent to vote on Obama’s ideas instead of Tinkleberg, Sarvi, Madia, and Franken. I do believe that is what people call an attempt at divided government which they like.
