MUST READ FROM TALKING POINTS MEMO: “FRANKEN CAMP WORRIED THEY MIGHT NOT CATCH COLEMAN?”
By Michael B. Brodkorb | November 17, 2008

“Here’s a sign that the Al Franken campaign is nervous about the ramifications of going into a recount trailing your opponent, even if there is the potential for pulling ahead later on.
On a conference call just now with reporters, they called for a stop to tomorrow’s initial certification of the vote totals, arguing that rejected absentee ballots must be examined first instead of waiting for the automatic recount period.” Source: TPM Election Central, November 17, 2008

“The key here is that the Franken campaign doesn’t want Coleman to go into the recount with the official certification of being any kind of winner, even if it’s by the barest of margins. That’s because the aura of even a questionable Coleman win can color judgements made about individual ballots during the recount — and could even have an effect on litigation if the recount works out in Franken’s favor, and then Coleman tries to challenge the result in court.” Source: TPM Election Central, November 17, 2008

All valid ballots should be counted, or our Democracy will suffer.
Why is Ole Smokescreen so afraid to follow the will of the people?
Let the System work.

So, Norms argument is, rather then count all the ballots the first time, he wants to count some ballots twice, and some only once?
Who is looking like a crook now?

Yes, all valid ballots should be counted. The Franken campaign understandably objects to any certification of any incomplete count. While in these circumstances, such a certification shouldn’t matter, in practical terms it does.
Let’s wait for the recount to be completed. There will be plenty of time to certify real as opposed to incomplete results then.

Check out Durkin v. Wyman 1974 NH
Classic case of the dems trying to overturn the state results of a recount. Wyman wins and Durkin protests to the dem-controlled Senate. Ended up actually looking at ballots etc. Democrats cancelled out Wyman’s recount and scheduled a new election 11 months later.

All valid ballots should be counted, no others.

Danbrome:
Thank you for supporting the Coleman position. If the election authority determines that a ballot wasn’t properly voted it shouldn’t count.
Franken is trying to two concepts which don’t meet your defintion:
* One, if it had a vote for the Democrats other than Franken obviously that voter wanted to vote for Franken should count as a Franken vote. Those votes shouldn’t count since those voters said I’m a loyal DFL voter, but I can’t support Al Franken.
* And two, ballots which were rejected like because the voter forgot to sign them to make them valid. Those shouldn’t count either.
Now since Franken is out of votes that are being counted will Franken conceed?

Only somewhat classy people concede…. Franken is fresh out of class….

Walter… your accusations are absurd.
Both Al and Coleman need to tell their supporters to let the system work, and accept the result. All Al wants is to make sure valid ballots are not discarded.
Franken by 503 or so.
