MUST READ FROM THE STAR TRIBUNE: “AL FRANKEN’S VOTE-TALLY APPEAL REBUFFED”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | November 17, 2008

“DFLer Al Franken asked Monday to have rejected absentee ballots be considered in the U.S. Senate election results that are to be certified today by a state board, a move later blunted by an attorney general’s opinion that the issue should be left to the courts.

The eleventh-hour maneuvering occurred as the five-member state Canvassing Board prepared to meet at 1 p.m. today in St. Paul to review results showing Republican Sen. Norm Coleman with a lead of 215 votes out of more than 2.9 million cast.” Source: Star Tribune, November 17, 2008

“However, the state attorney general’s office later issued a three-page opinion requested by Ritchie that said the board’s job today is purely administrative, not to determine the eligibility of a voter or whether absentee ballots were properly accepted.

Wrote Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Raschke Jr.: ‘Courts that have reviewed this issue have opined that rejected absentee or provisional ballots are not cast in an election.’ Improperly rejected absentee ballots can be challenged in court, he wrote.” Source: Star Tribune, November 17, 2008

I’m very confused. If Ritchie requested the AG’s ruling, isn’t he being fair and impartial?

This seems out of character for him, given all I have read here.

Could it be that republican paranoia was/is running rampant?

All valid ballots must be counted before a winner can be declared. That’s why Ole Smokescreen is so frickin worried.

Everybody is in agreement. Let’s let the process work for the citizens of Minnesota.

Once again, it’s you two who deny the obvious – Franken lost the Election Day count, he lost the “correction” count and he knows he’s going to lose the recount.

They HAVE been counted. Weird Al wants all the REJECTED ballots counted, now, too.

“Hey, I know you don’t belong in this precinct but, hey, let’s count that vote anyway….”

    Jeez you people are shameless.

“They HAVE been counted. Weird Al wants all the REJECTED ballots counted, now, too.”

Nobody knows at this point whether all ballots have been counted. That’s what the recount mandated by state law is for.

    True.

“If Ritchie requested the AG’s ruling, isn’t he being fair and impartial?”

Um, OK, let’s take this slow. If he didn’t know the information he requested from the AGs office, he doesn’t know too much about his job. I assume he did know it, and wanted it from the AG anyway, to provide some political cover from you “count all rejected ballots, regardless of the inherent stupidity of the proposal” types. Simple enough?

    Al Franken’s Vote Fixing Rebuffed

It’s great to see comments like that in the news.

As a gesture of my gratitude for honest reporting, here are some other terms the press can use in December:

All the media has to do is insert “Al Franken” and one of the following descriptive terms “brushed off, declined, denied, disallowed, dismissed, held off, ignored, kept at a distance, kicked in the teeth, opposed, pushed back, put in one’s place, put off, rebuked, refused, rejected, repulsed, sent away, slighted, snubbed, and my favorite shot down”.

Check out Durkin v. Wyman 1974 NH

Classic case of the dems trying to overturn the state results of a recount. Wyman wins and Durkin protests to the dem-controlled Senate. Ended up actually looking at ballots etc. Democrats cancelled out Wyman’s recount and scheduled a new election 11 months later.

    GOP lunacy = honest reporting

DFL anything = shameless illegal propaganda

    I get it now.

jbenson = uniformed and frankly foolish

danbrome said I get it now.

    “GOP lunacy = honest reporting”
“DFL anything = shameless illegal propaganda”

It’s taking a while, but it is finally sinking in.

He has reached the 5th stage of grief over Franken’s fate.

    1.) Denial
    2.) Anger
    3.) Bargaining
    4.) Depression
    5.) Acceptance

  16. danbrome Says:
    November 18th, 2008 at 10:06 AM

The fact that jbenson2 is uninformed and frankly foolish sunk in about a week ago.

    Thanks for acknowledging my acceptance.

How do you DFL state delegates feel now? Still think you made the right choice? Even Lord Ferris and Cirese knew better but you wouldnt listen. You wanted a Hollywood celebrity. Just about anybody could have beaten Norm…except your endorsed candidate. Keep up the good work. There is light in the GOP future after all.

  20. naomi Says:
    November 18th, 2008 at 11:20 AM

    Ritchie knows he’s being watched……..lol…
On my way to train for re-count responsibilities..(like follow the rules).

  21. ranger Says:
    November 18th, 2008 at 11:57 AM

Word circulating in DFL circles is that Franken infused over $1,000,000 to the DFL early on and that led to the leadership moving in support of Al at the state convention. Since that time, Franken has infused an additional $2,000,000 into DFL efforts. It is not the Hollywood celebrity that the DFL wanted, it is the $$$$$$$$. Imagine DFL Chair Melendez shouting “show me the money”.
