DID MARK RITCHIE GIVE TEAM FRANKEN A SNEAK PEAK AT LATEST VOTE TOTALS?

By Ryan Flynn | December 22, 2008

The Star Tribune is reporting that the Secretary of State’s office is circulating a draft report that gives Franken a 48 vote lead:

With most ballot challenges settled, Democrat Al Franken holds a 48-vote lead over Republican Sen. Norm Coleman in the U.S. Senate recount, according to a Star Tribune analysis of a draft report from the Secretary of State’s office.

That is down from a 251-vote lead that Franken had at the end of the day Friday, before the Secretary of State’s office allocated votes from ballot challenges that the two sides had previously withdrawn.

The new unofficial numbers include most of the allocated votes, but not several hundred unresolved ballot challenges. Nor do they include as many as 1,500 to 1,600 improperly rejected absentee ballots that are still to be dealt with. In addition, the Coleman campaign contends that about 130 ballots may have been double-counted and is seeking court action on those.   Source: Star Tribune, December 22, 2008

This come on the heels of Franken’s claim that he will win between 35-50 votes.

I find it highly suspicious that Team Franken would claim a lead of 35-50 votes, and then the Secretary of State releases a draft report that gives Franken the lead his campaign claimed this weekend. So, is it that Secretary of State is feeding Franken numbers before the press receives them?

Stay tuned to this developing story…

Really? You find it “highly suspicious” that Franken’s team did their math right? They do have access to all of the challenges, you know.

Come on, Ryan, find me some evidence. Otherwise, all you’ve got is a lazier version of the standard Coleman-campaign smear.

It’s time for someone to file a Freedom of Information Act request to get records of all the emails and phone calls between SOS staff and Franken staff.

Excellent analysis of the recount circus:

Now you’re trying to spread lies, Team Coleman’s Embedded Blogger at MDE, Ryan Flynn.

Let’s see here — being this entire process has been completely open and transparent — and Team Franken was able to give a rather specific figure — and it happens to match up with the figures from the Secretary of State’s office… why is it that Team Coleman is the only party here that’s trying to say that “nobody knows.”

Um, everyone knows what the vote count is. We’re all watching the canvassing board meetings and we’re all seeing the challenged ballots get withdrawn and reinstated and decided on… there isn’t anything fishy at all here and I’m sick of Team Coleman and MDE trying to intentionally mislead the public on the state of this recount.

    Shameful, Ryan.

    Mike–

Yeah, Mary Rosh’s analysis is totally the rox3r.

Maybe you could try finding an analysis from someone who isn’t a complete partisan hack who’s been caught committing sockpuppetry?

    Dumbest… fake controversy… ever.

  7. Jeff Fecke Says:

Incidentally, David Brauer shredded Lott’s analysis here.

Basically, Lott cherry-picks his data and ignores facts that are inconvenient to get to his conclusion that he’s right. Of course, this is unremarkable; that’s been his m.o. his entire career, so I don’t know why it would change now.

A.C.O.R.N. lover Ritchie tips his hand once again to show his Franken love.

Time for Coleman to pull out the big guns and throw this fiasco to the courts.

Oh, hey, and John Lott lies again. Seriously, can’t you guys find a less ethically challenged statistician to cite?

  10. Maxus Says:
    December 22nd, 2008 at 7:58 PM

the real story is why did the board award the vote to Franken in the example ballot used by Lott? what a crock…. the fix is in folks… A clear Coleman vote was given to Franken….. Oh well all you DFLiars deserve that clown

Jeff R: The reason they find it “highly suspicious” is because ReBublicans can barely spell, let alone do math. That and they’re jackasses.

  13. Leroy Jenkins Says:

I think it is funnier that Norm’s people apparently have no idea how the numbers are being reached. Perhaps if he spent a few less dollars on lawyers looking for people to sue, and a little more on people to actually watch the recount, he would know as much about the process as the rest of us rubes.

    What a buffoon.

  14. D Says:

The strength and speed of this attack on MDE makes me really wonder.

Also, before all you uber-libs start preparing the Fraud-ken parade, Coleman is going to get the double-counts removed and strip Angry Al of the lead.

Oh…and before you whine too hard, Coleman’s team can show where there is a problem with the counts and will want the Election Day numbers used. Sorta like when that mystery envelope vanished. If Richie-Rich disallows this, it will be the final straw in rigging of the election for Angry Al.

    Coleman by 52.

You’re obviously right. Justices Magnuson and Anderson and Tim Pawlenty, the man who appointed both of them, are obviously in the tank for Franken – those bastards have been planning this for years. Thanks for your diligence in spotting these RINO’s.

  18. Yoni C. Says:

Man in the Moon, pretty innocuous my friend. That is like saying some one will win the election.

  19. Jeff Fecke Says:
    December 22nd, 2008 at 11:17 PM

Given that I’m on record as saying I favor a fair count — regardless of victor — I’m not going to be eating crow. If the dupe ballots are tossed by the Supreme Court, and the absentee ballots that Norm tried not to get counted break Norm’s way, and the 300-odd dupe ballots Franken says they have don’t work out, then Norm could still win. And that’s…okay. You see, while I’d rather Franken wins, I’m not a jibbering partisan maniac about it.

This process has been fair, and that’s what burns you guys — that you don’t have credible evidence of its unfairness. You have to reach for well-known morons so you can tell yourselves happy bedtime stories that good ol’ Norm had his precious stolen from him.

Well, he may have lost, but if so, it’s because 40-odd more Minnesotans voted for Franken than him. And he may yet win, but it won’t be because it was stolen back for him — it will be because when all votes are cast, even ones Norm didn’t want to count, he got more of ‘em. That’s how democracy works. I can understand why Republicans would be confused about that, but that’s our system. As — Republican — Justice Paul Anderson said, we’re not Florida. And thank God.
