POLITICO: “KYL WARNS DEMS ON FRANKEN”
By Ryan Flynn | January 13, 2009

Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl has warned Democrats not to try to seat Al Franken any time soon, and he predicts the legal process will take at least a month to unfold, meaning the Senate may be stuck with 99 members well into February.
In an unusual move, Kyl went to the Senate floor this morning to lay out all the reasons why the Minnesota Senate election remains unresolved, and he listed Sen. Norm Coleman’s arguments before the Minnesota courts. Coleman’s election lawsuit contends there are newly discovered ballots, missing ballots, wrongly rejected absentee ballots and double counting of votes.
“Clearly there’s something wrong here and it has to be resolved by court,†Kyl said. “There are no stipulations for when proceedings must be completed. Estimations are that it could take a month or more.â€Â (Source, Politico, January 13, 2009).

Did Kyl happen to mention when the Senate Ethics Committe would begin the investigation into “The Fourth Most Corrupt Senator”?
Of course not; Coleman’s one of his.
January 13th, 2009 at 11:51 AM
Yeah, Tommy, and Kyl also neglected to mention that Al Franken is a child molester. CREW said that one too, but I guess you must have missed that.
January 13th, 2009 at 12:14 PM
Maybe Kyl should keep his nose out of Minnesota’s business.
January 13th, 2009 at 12:36 PM
hahahahaha
hey flynn and brodkorb! get AIDS!
January 13th, 2009 at 1:04 PM
Typical hateful comment from a liberal… another one of danbrome’s handles? Just asking…
January 13th, 2009 at 1:37 PM
What part of Mark Ritchie saying he won’t sign an election certificate unto the lawsuit concludes don’t you understand?
January 13th, 2009 at 1:40 PM
It doesn’t surprise me that Franken wants to be seated before all votes are counted. He only wants to count votes until he gets a small lead.
When the courts find that the cheating Democrats double counted votes, Franken’s lead will disappear. If they can’t correct the error, then they will have to invalidate the election and Governor Pawlenty will appoint a senator. You can bet that Franken won’t be Pawlenty’s choice.
January 13th, 2009 at 2:07 PM
Whats your point Elroy?
January 13th, 2009 at 2:19 PM
“Whats your point Elroy?”
I think he’s talking to Harry Reid and Amy Klobuchar.
January 13th, 2009 at 3:08 PM
I am talking to anyone who thinks Al (or Norm) will be seated before the suit is complete.
The “terribly partisan” Mark Ritchie has said he won’t issue an election certificate until the lawsuits are complete. And yes, I did say lawsuits, as I believe that Franken will be allowed to challenge any result that puts Norm in the lead. Similarly, I assume his desire to do so will be met with the same support you all are giving Norm currently. I mean, if you were not to support a Franken appeal, you would be just as hypocritical as FORMER Senator Coleman.
January 13th, 2009 at 3:12 PM
Here’s a toll free number to Klobuchar’s office 1-888-224-9043
Leave her a message
January 13th, 2009 at 3:12 PM
I will support Al just as strongly as you have supported Norm Elroy.
Oh, and I believe Senator Coleman is still called Senator (NOT former Senator).
Elroy is such a weazle.
January 13th, 2009 at 3:16 PM
Why don’t we pass a law and have a run-off election? (no requirement that you previously voted absentee or on day of).
That way, the two candidates run and we have as many observers as possible and call this a day.
Let’s face it, they tied for all purposes.
To try to untangle the missing ballots, double counted ballots, the prisioners, people that voted and then their ballots were lost or found or they forgot to sign it, whatever.
Let’s just be “Minnesota Nice”, have a month before a run-off. Then Run-off the election between Norm and Al and wrap this up like nice Minnesota people that we are.
Back to sitting by the fire, drinking coco trying to keep warm in Neg. 15 weather.
Who has time for all this drama/crying/yelling/etc?
January 13th, 2009 at 3:23 PM
Good idea Jennifer but the Democrats would never go for it. They know many of Democrats voted third party because Al made them sick.
The DFL would lose and they know it. You will find no support from the left.
January 13th, 2009 at 3:30 PM
And republicans love the idea, because with a $6 billion budget deficit in the next biennium, they like the idea of $5 million in additional deficit spending rather than the $200,000 this recount cost the state.
Yep. And the republicans wonder why their tent is shrinking. Could it be because you have whittled away all the traditional tent poles?
January 13th, 2009 at 3:36 PM
I’d settle for flipping a coin. It’s just as valid as a recount with results this close.
January 13th, 2009 at 3:40 PM
Good idea, Jennifer – but the GOP would never go for it; what with them bein’ the “party of fiscal constraint” and all.
The recount is alleged to cost less than $100k; a runoff costs millions.
As a Democrat, I know there’s limits to what government can – and should – do; and it all has to be done with a responsiblity to those that pay the taxes.
So I’m fine with this recount; and especially with the “Election Contest” since the loser has to pay: Chapter 209: Election Contests.
No wonder ol’ Smokescreen got in trouble – AGAIN – he’s lookin’ at some big bills when he loses his latest windmill tilting exercise.
January 13th, 2009 at 3:44 PM
As long as Mark Ritchie is the one flipping the coin, I’m OK with it.
January 13th, 2009 at 3:46 PM
I’d let him flip it, but I’d check the coin before, and after
January 13th, 2009 at 4:03 PM
Like you could get a coin from a libtard like Richie, LOL!
January 13th, 2009 at 4:05 PM
Hey, they’re all about change. They should have plenty of coinage.
January 13th, 2009 at 4:22 PM
Instant run-off voting? Are you fucking serious? You think the same dumb sons of bitches who can’t figure out the current, extremely simple ballot are going to successfully rank their electoral preferences?
Why is it so difficult to expect voters to make choose one candidate? What’s so goddam hard about that?
Tell you what though… I’ll support IRV when the state eliminates public financing for elections. IRV proponents seek only to expand the number of lunatics who get public funds to finance their idiot agendas. … public funds shouldn’t be used to fund anyone’s agenda.
IRV… what a fucking joke.
January 13th, 2009 at 4:24 PM
“As a Democrat, I know there’s limits to what government can – and should – do”
“The horizon” is not a limit, Tommy.
“and it all has to be done with a responsiblity to those that pay the taxes.”
Huh… never thought I’d hear Tommy advocate for the rich, since they pay all the taxes.
Cheers.
January 13th, 2009 at 4:34 PM
Now Angry Al, after being told by the Gov and the SoS that he ain’t gettin’ an election certificate…GOES TO THE STATE SUPREME COURT?
Oooooo that smell. That smell of desperation.
Because Angry Al knows that he cooked the recount and Coleman’s going to win in court.
January 13th, 2009 at 4:39 PM
D:
Is the “D” for drunk perhaps?
Why would Al be angry if he just won a seat in the United States Senate for 6-12 years? I’d be thrilled!
January 13th, 2009 at 4:41 PM
There’s nothing wrong with making money, Chestnut.
My problem with today’s GOP is they’re more interested in policing bedrooms than boardrooms.
And that is NOT “conservatism.”
January 13th, 2009 at 5:04 PM
How about a new election with neither Franken or Coleman?
January 13th, 2009 at 5:11 PM
QUICK…get to the Mn Supreme Court! Get a certificate before Coleman can get a fair shake!
RUN Al RUN!
January 13th, 2009 at 5:33 PM
Two Putz,
ROTFL! You’ve just spent the last two days complainging about how Swiftss posted a link to a photo showing male frontal nudity! I don’t know if you’re being the kind of prude you’re complaining about or if you have a little penis envy. Or maybe you just have a little….well, never mind!
January 13th, 2009 at 6:15 PM
“My problem with today’s GOP is they’re more interested in policing bedrooms than boardrooms.”
What’s your problem, Cheeto boy? You got kids in there?
January 13th, 2009 at 6:41 PM
“There’s nothing wrong with making money, Chestnut.”
I never said there was. But Democrats are determined to punish everyone who creates wealth and give hand outs to everyone who doesn’t. That’s not a legitimate role of American government.
“My problem with today’s GOP is they’re more interested in policing bedrooms than boardrooms.”
Bullshit. The problem with the GOP is that they act like the DFL.
January 13th, 2009 at 6:46 PM
Fuck Al Franken. That two bit piece of shit can wait another month or two before enjoying the Senate seat he stole.
Fuck Al Franken — that worthless cock sucker.
January 13th, 2009 at 6:55 PM
The campaigns could pay for a run-off eleciton. I think it would be the swift way to end this. Or maybe a duel.

King Hussein and Senator Franken will be a potent pair, as they go about rebuilding what the conservatives destroyed.
January 13th, 2009 at 7:15 PM
Conservatives destroyed nothing. Republicans legislating as liberals screwed this pooch. George W. Bush was a perfect Democrat.
January 13th, 2009 at 11:28 PM
Was Cheney legislating as a liberal? How bout Rumsfeld? Delay? Kyl? Wolfowitz? Pearl? These conservatives DID cause great damage to a concerned nation.
January 14th, 2009 at 12:37 AM
danbrome,
Really? I thought Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda caused great damage to a concerned nation. The very people you’ve lampooned have kept our country safe for the last seven years.
Please know that if or when Obama and, God forbid, Franken dismantle the anti-terrorism programs implemented by the Bush administration and we are attacked, Obama et al. will own that attack and it will spell the end of his historic administration.
I’m particlularly concerned about the closing of Guantanamo Bay. I found it amazing that Obama actually said that there might be bad and dangerous people being held there. To use a phrase from the 10th grade, no shit sherlock! I ask, where do you propose they be held? I sure as hell wouldn’t want to be within 100 miles of any domestic facility holding terrorists. And dare I say that I don’t think a single Congressman would want them held in their district either.
danbrome, you seem like a decent enough person – but your contempt is misplaced. Bush derangement syndrome has taken over your life.
January 14th, 2009 at 12:45 AM
What are you complaining about Bromelkamp, Cheney has a gay daughter. Liberal, schmiberal: you only want to promote the gay agenda.
Do you think Obama will appoint Bill Ayers to be the Ambassador to Al Qaeda?
January 14th, 2009 at 9:16 AM
Danbrome, you like to think of yourself as an intelligent and well-informed person. Unfortunately, you seem to have missed your junior high civics class. Cheney, Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld didn’t “legislate” from any political point of view. They were not legislators during this administration. And, while Cheney and Rumsfeld were once Representatives, Wolfowitz was not.
January 14th, 2009 at 1:18 PM
Mark..
With all due respect, it seems you missed your junior high English class.
Chestnut stated that “Conservatives destroyed nothing. Republicans legislating as liberals screwed this pooch.”
danbrome stated that “Was Cheney legislating as a liberal? How bout Rumsfeld? Delay? Kyl? Wolfowitz? Pearl? These conservatives DID cause great damage to a concerned nation.”
Translation… Conservatives Cheney, Rumsfeld, Delay, Kyl, Wolfowitz, and Pearl DID cause great damage to a concerned nation. It was not necessary for them to be legislators to influct the damage. Chestnut can’t limit the blame to Republican legislators, as most of the damage was done by non-legislators.
I’ll give you a pass on this, since you were sincere in calling me a decent person (your tongue in cheek of course). It’s been a long time since a reasonable comment was thrown my way.
January 14th, 2009 at 1:20 PM
Oh wait, it was Chris that called me a decent person, so kudos to him for that.
Mark, you still get a pass, since I am such a decent person.
January 14th, 2009 at 1:29 PM
Danbrome, you are showing what sort of fellow you are. You were not quoting directly from Chestnut what I quoted from you. It was your reformulation that I objected to. Gee, thanks for giving me a pass. It was someone else who called you a decent person. I only stated that you like to think of yourself as an intelligent and well-informed citizen. I missed no English classes. As a matter of fact, my mother was a high school English teacher, and I’m often accused of being far too picky about language use. While I’m not going to join in the poo-slinging contests here, I am also not going to shower you with compliments.
January 14th, 2009 at 1:51 PM
If you didn’t miss your English classes, then why did you miss the point about Cheney & all NOT being legislators but STILL causing so much damage to our country?
It’s a small point, but an important one.
January 14th, 2009 at 2:32 PM
Your original post did not say “NOT” dan.
You don’t have an honest bone in your body do you.
January 14th, 2009 at 11:46 PM
The question did not require a NOT you moron. Holy crap, are you serious?
