AC, you must be the "moron" if you can't answer that yourself. Do you really think that Geithner did this on is own? He was instructed to do so by the President.

You need to get out more.

Question for all of you liberals. Isn't moron as bad as retard when it comes to name calling? Is this a DFL planned attack on the disabled?

Why is it amazing? I attacked both. I think what Dodd did was wrong, but I don't think that in the grand scheme of things, Fox is the most neutral source out there.

Actually, I think in this case, Dodd just did what Geithner told/pressured him to do. And I don't agree with that either.

AC,

I stand behind Fox's record far more than propagandists like (un)FAIR which targets any point of view that isn't far-left.

It's amazing how you can attack Fox News when they've been shown to be right and Chris Dodd has been shown to be an admitted liar.

Fox being truly "suspect"? There is nothing "suspect" about CNN and the rest of main stream media - they all lean left, some further than others. That puts Fox ahead in the fair and balanced game AC.

I stand corrected. Chris Dodd should be held accountable for this, and I suspect that will be taken care of at the polls.

But I will not apologize to Fox. They got this one right, but their overall track record on being fair and balanced is truly suspect.

AC,

I'm still waiting for an apology from you and Marc Ambinder for smearing Fox News.

Of course, the whole country is owed an apology from Chris Dodd for the malfeasance he's shown as Banking Chairman.

P.S. danbrome,

It's also hilarious that you're pronouncing Norm Coleman a former Senator and Al Franken the winner when the court hasn't even ruled. I thought liberal Democrats believed in justice for all.

danbrome,

In the words of a great leader, "there you go again." It's amazing how you can sit there and call Pete arrogant and then say that we're going to have 8 years of Democratic rule. You know, there's an election in two years and the GOP is leading the Democrats in the generic party match ups. In a little less than four years we're going to have another presidential election as well. It's pretty presumptuous of you to say Obama is going to be re-elected when he hasn't even gotten through the first 100 days of his administration.

It's also pretty arrogant and dishonest of you to blame the mess on Republican policies -- especially when Chris Dodd had to backtrack on what he just said yesterday about his role in the AIG debacle. It's not just Dodd. Senators are already asking Obama about whether he has confidence in Tim Geitner. And if you want to talk about competence, Obama hasn't even nominated the requisite undersecretaries to back up and assist Geitner and the administration in solving the economic crisis.

As I've said before, danbrome, you just come here and spout B.S. and never back up any of your ridiculous claims. That's what you call a meathead.

Pete..

With all due respect, YOU are the pompous fool who has your head buried in the sand.

I mean, you actually think that conservative Republican policies are the solution for past conservative Republican policies.

You guys had your chance and blew it. Now you have 8 years of Democratic leadership to clean up the mess.

And it would go a lot faster if Former Senator Coleman would do the right thing and concede.

Senator Elect Franken has a lot to offer this country, and is eager to serve.

AC,

Breaking News from CNN:

BREAKING: I was responsible for bonus loophole, says Dodd
Posted: 05:56 PM ET
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Senate Banking committee Chairman Christopher Dodd told CNN’s Dana Bash and Wolf Blitzer Wednesday that he was responsible for adding the bonus loophole into the stimulus package that permitted AIG and other companies that received bailout funds to pay bonuses.

On Tuesday, Dodd denied to CNN that he had anything to do with the adding of that provision.

Looks like you owe Fox News an apology for accusing them of smearing Dodd and it looks like Dodd owes the American people an apology for lying about his role the day before.

I have a special relationship with Pete.

His pompous attitude makes me crazy, and causes me to slip up a bit.

He doesn't know a darn thing about me, my wife, my family, or my faith. Yet he plays God and judges me. Is that what I should expect from a good conservative?

In any event, Pete IS a stooge, and I think he knows it deep down.

danbrome is 100% DFL talking points.

For people who don't fall in line with those talking points ... he calls them, "ignorant", "clown", "stooge" ...

danbrome, we are all still waiting for examples of issues where you are "moderate."

danbrome, you are a lying coward. Not because you are a communist - but because you won't admit that you are a communist.

danbrome,

Let me get this straight: it's ok for you to call Pete names (Puss and Stooge) but it's not okay for me to do the same? Isn't that a little hypocritical?

Pete..

"I believe you are limiting yourself by just watching those two networks and now understand why you have such limited knowledge on present day issues."

Typical Pete Puss.

I do not limit myself to those two networks, I used them as an example of my effort to get diverse views.

For you to suggest that you "understand" anything is a leap of faith Pete.

You are most certainly in stooge territory.

danbrome, I never said that Hannity is the next coming of Jesus Christ. However you seem to think Obama is the next coming of Jesus Christ.

I also watch CNN, Fox, and most of the other major networks including all of the Sunday morning political shows. I believe you are limiting yourself by just watching those two networks and now understand why you have such limited knowledge on present day issues.

danbrome,

I'm going to pay you a compliment and say that I think it's great that you watch Fox News and CNN to get both sides. I think that's what people should do: (1) ascertain the bias of the news source and (2) expose themselves to a variety of points of view.

I would just add that with Fox there is a difference between its hard news shows (like Shepard Smith's broadcast at 6 pm or Special Report at 5 pm) and its opinion shows like O'Reilly, Greta and Hannity and its entertainment shows like Fox and Friends.

Where I get frustrated is when you make statements and don't back them up by any source (whether it be CNN or the Nation or Political Affairs).

Chris..

"Incidentally, I’d like to know what you consider legitimate news sources."

As you know, there are many legitimate news sources. I believe we should all try to get our news from a variety of sources, and then reach our own conclusions about the facts.

I religiously watch a lot of Fox News AND CNN so I get both sides. I invest the time required to do this so I can make balanced observations about the issues.

What bothers me is when an individual will get all their news from sources with a common agenda, and then pronounce the stories as fact. I don't want to name names, but the one guy's name begins with P and ends with ete.

He seems to think Sean Hannity is the next coming of Jesus Christ.

Do you agree?

AC,

I never defended this site's use of Ron Carey press releases. I think this site has done great original work, but reprinting Ron Carey press releases isn't that good work.

As for Dodd, the liberal Marc Ambinder writes in the liberal Atlantic Monthly the following about the language in question:

"The truth is that the codicil was added in conference by mutual agreement of House and Senate Democrats and the White House.

Dodd, the chair of the banking committee, agreed to this language because most all of the stakeholders - including the administration - wanted it."

In other words, even though Dodd was not a conferee he (as the powerful chairman of the Senate Banking Committee) had say on the amendment which came from House and Senate Democrats on the issue of paying bonuses to the AIG executives which would have bankrupted their company except for the generosity of the American taxpayer.

danbrome,

You're right, you never mentioned Chris Dodd. I did. I mentioned how Democrats like Dodd have been in charge of our financial system and have made the laws that have gotten us where we are today. Dodd also received $103,000 in campaign contributions from AIG last year. Obama, by the way, received $101,000 from AIG.

I don't usually call names. But when I cite facts that are easily researched by, for example, going to the Federal Elections Commission website, you deny them because you don't like the source (ie. the WSJ, Fox Business network, the Weekly Standard, etc.). You never, ever cite anything to back up your opinions. Incidentally, I'd like to know what you consider legitimate news sources.

You are not a moderate Democrat. Nothing about what you post is moderate. You are a liberal Democrat who wants to take money from people who have it and redistribute other people's money to people who don't. That's a legitimate political philosophy and is worthy of debate. But be honest about your political philosophy and don't claim to be something you're not.

Democrats are in control of our government. And Republicans were elected by their constituents based on their ideas. There is not unanimity in this country on any issue being promoted by Democrats so don't think Republicans are bound to go along. Just as Democrats blocked Republicans on many issues when the GOP was in total control from 2003-2007.

Chris,

I find it funny that you are concerned with danbrome allegedly posting talking points. That's all this website usually is.

I just noticed Brodkorb's twitter message in the right column.
"Sweet...new iPhone software has cut & paste feature..."

So I'm sure we will see even more "cut and paste" on here from the Coleman team in an even more timely fashion?

Chris, I notice you cite Fox as a source on your info for Dodd. Is this the same Fox that had to backpeddle today and admit they took a old quote way out of context by Bidden this weekend? I have to give credit to Fox though. They did apologize today once they were outed.

Chris (and others)

Looks like the Dodd/AIG connection is nothing more than a smear by FOX. (surprise)

Dodd's amendment did not have the bonus language in there at all, and the Senate version passed to reconciliation without the language. So where did it come from? Sometime during the final reconcilliation process before the bill passed. And guess what? Dodd wasn't a part of that process. But here's who was:

From the House: Obey, Rangel, Waxman, Lewis (CA), and Camp. From the Senate: Inouye; Baucus; Reid; Cochran; Grassley.

Hmmm. I see some republicans in there.

Also, isn't Dodd the one who pushed the salary cap requirements in this bill?

Full story starting to appear online. Here is one source. But O'm sure you will poo-poo it.

Chris..

I know the truth is that:

1.) There is plenty of blame to go around.
2.) I never ever ever mentioned Dodd here.
3.) I tried to be civil with you, but you rejected my overtures and launched the personal attack against me.
4.) Even Integrity can see that you are a reasonable guy who simply disagrees with moderate Democrats.
5.) You have obviously jumped into the boat with Chestnut, Chili, Chile, and Pete.. determined to soften me up by calling me names.
6.) Democrats for better or worse have control and will proceed without Republican support if necessary to rebuild this great country.

I know it's tough to defend conservative Republicans, but could you take a moment to guess what level of debt we would be in if George W. Bush had been President TODAY.

You answer will tell the readers all they have to know about your own pathetic ignorance.

Make your answer specific, and cite solid and irrefutable evidence like Michael did.

Michael did a good job by stating articulate irrefutable statements of facts. I like hearing substance instead of cotton candy spin. Michael believes in what he says and it shows through powerfully.

The Republican Party is changing as is everything else in this world. Ultimately in a democracy it is the constituents at the end of the day that decide by selection and rejection what the major parties stand for. Republicans need to start entering fields where we are scarce. We have essentially due to comfort levels have abandoned pursuit of many professions in academia and government. This has to change. Republicans have to distinguish themselves between Democrats in these fields. So many people see this divide as between “us or them” because of the partisan imbalances in these professional areas. Republicans must set a new standard of what good government is and what is bad. We can't have whole blocks of certain professions and workers exclude us do to self interests. Everyone deserves to have alternatives and we've' let tone party monopolize these areas. Government against private sector is not enough anymore. We’ve abandoned whole sectors to one partisan influence.

You are a meathead -- dead from the neck up. It's amazing how ignorant and uninformed you are. Maybe you should do your own research and find out the truth for yourself.

Please provide the links about the Dodd screw up, so I can measure for accuracy. I just want to confirm that the entire financial crisis can be blamed on Democrats. Thanks.

danbrome,

Palusen can't do any worse than the Democrats. You know all of the outrage over the AIG bonuses that are being paid? Do you know WHY they are being paid? It's because Sen. Chris Dodd put an amendment into the bailout bill which restricted executive pay but specifically EXEMPTED such bonuses from the restriction. Chris Dodd could have out right prohibited these bonuses, but instead chose to allow them to be paid out.

As a Democrat, how can you have confidence in these people danbrome? (Of course, I'm not convinced danbrome is a real person. My theory is that he's a computer bot over at MoveOn.org that spits out George Soros talking points.)

Chris..

Did you see the documentary on CNBC showing the interview with President Bush concerning the Wall Street bailouts?

The President said he would not "let a meltdown occur ON HIS WATCH". That's why he pressed hard for a huge bailout.

If Bush would have been President on January 20th, he would have faced the same ugly scene as Obama did, and as he suggested in the interview, he would have forced to spend untold trillions himself.

Call me and Ash and Barack all the names you want, but let's be fair. Deficit spending to address this crisis was going to happen regardless of who was President.

danbrome,

WTF are you talking about? Bush added less to the debt in eight years than Obama is going to add in 20 months. How can you claim that the debt would have grown by another $6.1 trillion? That's completely illogical.

As for the war, I will give President Bush credit for not budgeting for the war. The reason is because it informed the American people exactly how much was being spent on the war each year. Versus had he hidden the costs of the war in a budget, like Obama will, the American people would not know how much was being spent.

As for the crisis, let the record reflect that he sent Treasury officials up to Congress 14 times to discuss and demand new regulations regarding Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and he was blocked by Chris Dodd and Barney Frank on that issue. Let the record also reflect that Robert Rubin, Lawrence Summers and Tim Geitner all backed the rules which created the mortgage mess and they are all serving in one capacity or another in the Obama administration.
