EXTREME MAKEOVER: HATCH/SWANSON EDITION #2

By Ryan Flynn | April 2, 2009

On the heels of a story regarding $400,000 in upgrades to the office of the attorney general State Senator David Hann has now called for an investigation by the Legislative Auditor.

The Attorney General has tried to justify these upgrades, but not before trying to hide from the media.

The Attorney General can try and justify all she wants, nothing changes the fact this is a egregious abuse of taxpayer money.

Good for David Hann. Too bad the Legislative Auditor’s so-called “gold standard” reputation is built upon reports designed to preserve his job more than his office’s function. The Commission which oversees Nobles is going to have to give him a swift kick in the rear end if they want anything accomplished on that end. In the meantime, I’m waiting to hear a DFL legislator other than Steve Simon stand up and call BS on the AG’s house of horrors.

Think about it: in just the last couple of weeks we’ve learned that a wealthy insurance defense attorney (Mike Hatch) is writing correspondence for the current AG. Has anybody stopped to ask what that wealthy insurance defense lawyer (Mike Hatch) gets in return for his voluntary service to an office that has a significant oversight function over many of his clients?

And that’s just the start: even Milquetoast Jim Nobles was capable of confirming all kinds of improprieties in the AG’s office last year: Lawyers being asked to post pro-Swanson comments to blogs; being told to then mark their blogging time on their time sheets as vacation time; lawyers being asked to file frivolous lawsuits to garner media attention; those lawsuits then being dropped. This stuff has all been CONFIRMED. But do we hear a peep of disgust from the DFL legislative leadership? The StarTribune?

Nope. Instead we get a story about leaky toilets and the AG’s carpet.

The relationship between Swanson and Hatch stinks more than any political partnership in recent state history. But for whatever reason, there’s only a handful of legislators who’ve had the guts to call them out on it. Good for them, shame on the State of Minnesota.

Here’s a little tip for political reporters, statewide: why don’t you sit down at your desk and ask yourselves, “What’s going on that needs to be hidden behind the most expensive doors in Minnesota government?”

When can we get back to the lost contest in the Senate race? I want to hear Pete F. tell us how conservatives are making a strong comeback, so I can have another good belly laugh.

Former Senator Coleman should show some class and “step back”, right?

From what I understand danbrome has a man crush on me. danbrome has no class.

Still waiting for danbrome to prove that he is a moderate by posting at least one current issue that he is a moderate on.

Every post shows that danbrome is a socialist who rejects the legal system of the United States for partisan purposes. Or is he a facist?

    blah blah blah blah

    Pete..

Care to explain where, when, or how I ever rejected the legal system of the United States for partisan purposes?

With all due respect, that charge makes you look like a fool.

Still waiting for danbrome to prove that he is a moderate by posting at least one current issue that he is a moderate on. He didn’t runaway and hide behind Yoda again did he?

Yoda doesn’t think Norm should have a right to use the legal system as it is setup to be used. Yoda rejects the legal system.

So what does Yoda’s opinion have to do with me?

  9. Pete F Says:

Yoda, nice try but massive failure.

Still waiting for danbrome/Yoda to prove that he is a moderate by posting at least one current issue that he is a moderate on. He didn’t runaway and hide behind Yoda again did he?
