MUST READ FROM THE STAR TRIBUNE: “SENATOR: WHAT SECURITY RISKS JUSTIFIED $15,000 AG DOORS?”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | April 2, 2009

“A state senator wants to know what security risks justified the installation of two security doors valued at $15,000 in the attorney general’s office.

Sen. David Hann, R-Eden Prairie, sent a letter Thursday asking the legislative auditor to look into why Attorney General Lori Swanson should be concerned about security in her office and what recommendations a 2007 security assessment had made.

Legislative Auditor Jim Nobles said the questions are likely to be part of a larger audit of the attorney general’s office scheduled to begin in May.

Hann’s letter followed reports that Swanson, a DFLer, sought a security assessment after taking office in 2007 and that the two solid oak doors were installed shortly afterward.

Swanson has said the doors replaced two with windows leading into her office. Each of the doors, described as sound-attenuating in billing records, was valued at about $5,000, with installation requiring an additional $2,500 apiece.

Hann’s letter also asked Nobles’ office to investigate the timing of the installation, which was ordered within weeks of reports of office turmoil over some attorneys attempting to organize a union. Installation of the doors and a $6,000 replacement of carpeting in Swanson’s office were first reported by WCCO-TV, generating questions about whether they were a wise use of taxpayer dollars.

‘I’m concerned about what happened with the security assessment that she says that she conducted. What was done with that assessment? Who paid for it? What was the scope of it?’ asked Hann, a member of the Legislative Audit Commission.” Source: Star Tribune, April 2, 2009

    $15,0000 for “Security Doors.”

For only 49.95, plus $8.00 shipping Lori Swanson could have bought a chastity belt:

For Hatch, the CB-2000 male chastity belt runs
129.95 for the “full package.” (Pink, Smoke Gray, or Clear)

MDE long ago reported on “Mad Mike Hatch’s “temper”. So Mad Mike ordered a “soundproof” office and Lorrie Swanson continued the project. MDE reported that Mike Hatch’s car was parked near the Attorney General’s office after the transition and after hours. Lorry Swanson continued the “Mad Mike” soundproofing project. Try “doing the math and timeline”.

Hey guy, Al_Gilbert_FELON here, just stopping by to congratulate you on all the hard work and to offer a bit of perspective and advice. First, on the basis of a few conversations I’ve had in the last day, I can assure you that the possibility of a Swanson-Hatch affair has been received loud and clear by Minnesota’s cadre of political investigative reporters. Heck, it was received even before this sequence of posts … just get yourselves a look at the innuendo at the end of Kessler’s original report. Nobody questions it, most believe it to be true.

But the bad news is that nobody in the news media is going to report that affair without photos, video (ew!), or divorce papers. And unless Matt Entenza has found a new PI, I don’t think we’ll be seeing any of that material.

So a suggestion. Let’s move on. Affairs won’t get Swanson and Hatch disbarred. BUT defrauding Medicare will, diverting state money to ACORN in return for endorsements will. The full package of allegations that were aired last year as a result of the Legislative Auditor’s anemic investigations will.

Focus, boys, and good things will happen.

And, if you have a moment, say a little prayer for Senator David Hann who, within a week I’d say, will find himself in the crosshairs of a Swanson-Hatch smear.

Is anyone else sick and tired off reading about Fong Lee in the Strib? I’m tired of being reminded of how taxpayers are forced to fund Minnesota’s massive welfare magnet, and how we get sued when these guys step out of line during their criminal activities.

Honestly, the AG’s office might be better run if they all had to live in a cube farm. It would also probably cost less. :-)

  9. President Barack Obama Says:
    April 3rd, 2009 at 2:28 PM

Hi, this is President Barack Obama…I would like to warn the American people that this recovery will take many, many years. We all must put some skin in the game and be noble neighbors and comrades. Today early during my jog my fists were clenched. Clenched too hard…as I ponder on the reason why it was because I worry that not all Americans will appreciate this stimulus. Prices will rise tremendously but wallets with cash will thicken at thicker wads. I have faith in the American people to work their fingers to the bone for Uncle Sam regardless if the affluent who shop at discounted membership stores have their purchasing power cut in half. What about that 40 year old man drunk in the streets that can’t read? Why he can’t even get a home loan so as to have a place to sleep it off as other affluent drunken people do!!! What about the mother with 5 children who are struggling to go to school full time while the children are in daycare all day. What about the needy…we need change America change. What about the drug addict who robs a bank and kills two innocent people….and can’t read and write? What about him? What about Lori Swanson a thin but strong lady who I would like to appoint someday as Czar of the third world’s comparative prosperity and medical testing domain. Is 15,000 dollar doors too much to ask? Shame on you people…remember now I inherited this from George Bush…all of it. I will keep saying this until I’m thrown out of office. Just watch me.

Hey Al_Gilberg_FELON! Thanks to you, I’ll never again be able to see the name Al Gilbert and not think “FELON!” The words are synonymous I think most readers of this blog. But what I want to know is whether Al Gilbert is actually a felon. Could you enlighten me on this subject? Thanks and I’ll wait for your response.

    Yoda says..

“The more I read Pete F’s posts, the more I realize that he is a little too ignorant to hold a reasonable conversation on any topic.”

I reached this conclusion last fall, and have repeated this claim over and over here.

Pete only serves to entertain us now, and for that I am truly grateful.

In my bailiwick, this is a tempest in a teapot. It’s axiomatic: to the political victors belong the spoils. So what if taxpayers are impoverished to provide the opulence my party rightfully deserves? We’re proud of our little Minnesota brothers and sisters.
