Regardless of his decision, I thank Governor Pawlenty for his leadership the past six years. I look forward to his continued leadership throught 2010.
“It’s time to drop the f-ing puck!”

Brodkorb for Governor? Ryan Flynn for Lt. Gov?
June 2nd, 2009 at 11:16 AM
This will clear the way for Norm Coleman to run for governor.
June 2nd, 2009 at 11:18 AM
Tim Pawlenty would have faced long odds at getting re-elected in this state BEFORE he decided to pout his way through the final week of session. Now that he is going to be unilaterally in charge of hurting the pocket books of just about every Minnesotan, he is at least wise enough to admit that his gamble failed and his political career has finally reached its end.
And while I think he did some good things, his lasting legacy will be how he managed to leave the state in a worse condition than when took over from Jesse.
June 2nd, 2009 at 11:30 AM
I think that if he was going to run next year, Gov. Pawlenty would have handled the end of session differently. I think that he had already made his decision than, and that changed the basis on which he made his calculations.

After losing to a wrestler and a comedian, Norm knows his race against Senator-Elect Franken was his last gambit in Minnesota politics.
The Senate race in 2014 will be interesting, since President Obama will be approaching lame duck territory by then.
June 2nd, 2009 at 12:10 PM
I think Norm did mishandle the politics of the recount, in terms retaining maximum viability for future statewide office. And part of Norm’s problem is that Minnesota Republicans have never really taken him to heart. That said, Norm’s a capable and resourceful politician and I wouldn’t rule him out.

PAWLENTY is NOT RUNNING for a 3rd term. Star-Tribune announced it a bit ago.
I think the Governor knows that his political career may also be at an end if he does not sign the Certificate of Election when the MN Supreme Court comes out with its ruling should it favor Al Franken. Should he refuse, Pawlenty can also kiss his Presidential apirations for 2012 goodbye.
June 2nd, 2009 at 12:53 PM
Liberal danbrome, what comedian did Norm run against? Who is Senator-elect Franken.
Pawleny will be leaving the Governor’s mansion a winner!
June 2nd, 2009 at 12:59 PM
Sounds like Michelle Bachman is planning to run for governor as well. I sure hope so. Let her give up her House seat and then get smacked around in the race for governor. Then she can go away.
June 2nd, 2009 at 1:04 PM
I assume the governor will sign a certificate of election if the Supreme Court orders him too, assuming also that no federal court stays the order. If the Minnesota Supremes issue a specific order on the matter, I assume Pawlenty will wait to see what Norm does, accept the Minnesota court’s order, or appeal to the feds.
June 2nd, 2009 at 1:12 PM
Judy, hows come on the ugly chicks be hatin’ on Bachmann.
Speaking of ugly chicks, Did you hear the Bachmann for Gov rumor over from Eva over at DB.
June 2nd, 2009 at 1:22 PM
If Minnesota loses a Congressional district, it’s widely assumed it will be Bachmann’s, so it makes sense for her to look elsewhere if she wants to be in public office after 2012.
There is an interesting irony at work here by the way. National right wing media is criticizing the role ACORN might play in the census. But it’s in the interest of Bachmann for one, for the census to find as many people in Minnesota as they can.
June 2nd, 2009 at 1:49 PM
Pawleny will be leaving the Governor’s mansion a coward.
If he actually believed that he was doing the right thing with the state’s budget, he would allow the people of Minnesota to tell him so next fall. The fact that he is cutting and running, and crying that the democrats aren’t offering to help him is all the evidence that anyone needs that he can read the tea leaves and he knows that he stood no chance of winning.
June 2nd, 2009 at 2:12 PM
I think the dream team would be Carol Molnau/Michelle Bachmann.
Can you imagine the extra foaming at the mouth this would create among the liberal nutbars around here?
June 2nd, 2009 at 2:13 PM
Pawleny will be leaving the Governor’s mansion a coward.
Words from an idiot who’s never dared to put his hat in the ring.
June 2nd, 2009 at 2:19 PM
Mr. – you are so predictable it’s laughable.
June 2nd, 2009 at 2:40 PM
Sorry, Minnesota already has its Coward-In-Chief:
Ashwipe Madia, Minnesota’s Original Cowardly Candidate
June 2nd, 2009 at 2:45 PM
Media bias is alive and well:
“Ex-Mass. House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi, 3 associates indicted on federal corruption charges”
If it were a Republican, the media would make sure to include that. Of course, this is a democRAT, so its circle-the-wagons time.
June 2nd, 2009 at 2:55 PM
Tim Pawlenty is cutting and running in a cowardly manner.
The fact that the truth offends makes it no less true.
June 2nd, 2009 at 3:00 PM
“Cowardly” – it kind of defines Senator Dayton’s decision to close his office in late 2004, doesn’t it?
June 2nd, 2009 at 3:06 PM
Thank you Governor Pawlenty for your service!
I honor and respect anyone, regardless of ideology, for sacrificing of themselves to serve the people. Whether I agreed with him or not, I always had confidence he was doing what he felt was best for the state.
Today is a day of thanks and reflection on his service. Political sniping can wait till . . . . tomorrow *smile*

I respect his dedication and willingness to serve in this very tough job.
But I also believe that he is cowardly for leaving office so that he doesn’t have to face the wrath of the voters when they see the mess he is about to make just to appease his national handlers.
June 2nd, 2009 at 3:25 PM
Hey Mr.,
I love it when you don’t post your real name behind yo0ur mean-spirited and hateful rhetroic and turn around and have the balls to call someone else a coward.
June 2nd, 2009 at 3:33 PM
Hey Leroy you PIG remember ME!!!
Have you called anyone a rag head lately?
Your buddy Mark Dayton did the cut and run so he would not have to face the voters.
Get you facts straight big mouth. I have been reading the post here and your getting you ass kicked on a daily bases.
Leroy you’re a NON FACTOR and you always will be!!!!
Leery Roy = nonfactor and douche bag
June 2nd, 2009 at 3:45 PM
come on cowared let me have it. or did you mommy bring you your afternoon snack.
June 2nd, 2009 at 3:53 PM
The only coward around Minnesota is the Cowardly Candidate Ashwipe Madia!
Ashwipe Madia: Ready to Hide!
June 2nd, 2009 at 4:01 PM
Having trouble keeping up with the Democrat spin. When T-Paw refused to call legislators back into session, he was “obviously” putting national ambition above local concerns. Now he needs to certify the Senate election (a local concern) in order to be viable on the national scene?
Overall I appreciated Pawlenty. Except for that ethanol boondoggle.
June 2nd, 2009 at 4:32 PM
Mr. you are lower than the slime left on the sidewalk by a passing night crawler.
You take major offense at any derogatory comment directed towards a liberal and then turn around and use the most vile and vulgar language of anyone else on this board.
You must live a pitiful existence and I feel sorry for your family and friends (if you have any) that must put up with you.
It must really ‘suck’ to be you….
June 2nd, 2009 at 4:55 PM
D. Do you recall the MA “bra bribe” from last fall. That fact that she was a Democrat was burried in most stories – if they mentioned it at all.
June 2nd, 2009 at 5:03 PM
Coward is not being used as an insult. It is a proper description.
Norm Coleman left city hall as the supposed popular mayor of St. Paul, and did knot carry a single precinct in the city when he next appeared on the ballot as a gubernatorial candidate.
I imagine after he unallots the budget unilaterally, governor Pawlenty may struggle to carry any counties in Minnesota as a presidential candidate.
June 2nd, 2009 at 5:11 PM
I don’t think the governor is a coward or his decision not to run is in any way cowardly. While the governor isn’t on my top ten list of favorite politicians, running for office is on the whole a pretty gutsy thing to do. The governor is finishing out his term and he is under no obligation of any kind to run for another. It’s strictly his choice, just as the decision to vote for him would have been ours had he chosen to run.
June 2nd, 2009 at 5:17 PM
Leroy, you jackass, Glad to see you finally agree that Assboy Madia is a coward.
June 3rd, 2009 at 12:56 AM
Mr. Leroy Jenkins, (should that be “Leeroy” ?),
You are a disturbed individual.
This is what the Mayo Clinic has to say about your affliction: “Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. They believe that they’re superior to others and have little regard for other people’s feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.”
Get Help Leeroy, get help.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:43 AM
It is only narcissism if the confidence is unwarranted.
June 3rd, 2009 at 8:13 AM
Leroy, you narcissist, you just confirmed the diagnosis.
Leroy Jenkins: Narcissistic-Sociopathic Jackass!
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:37 AM
No, I just suggested that a key ingredient in narcissism is unwarranted confidence. Since my confidence is based in actual superiority to the people who generally post here, the confidence is not unwarranted, and as such, not narcissistic.
June 3rd, 2009 at 11:13 AM
Leroy, you jackass, now you are showing your sociopathic side.
June 3rd, 2009 at 12:40 PM
Well, Chile, since you apparently got a medical dictionary for your birtday, lets break down why I am not a sociopath.
sociopath: a person, as a psychopathic personality, whose behavior is antisocial and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.
First, I am not anti-social. I have plenty of good friends. None of them hang out here, but I don’t see that as a character flaw in any way.
Second, I don’t lack a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience. I have consistently objected to the republican plan that would push debt obligations onto our children while pretending not to raise taxes in a way that causes property taxes and fees to go through the roof. Governing in a way that gives the next election more importance than the next decade is short-sighted and wrong.
I dare say that objecting to that is the very model of a person who has a sense of moral responsibility and a social conscious.
Perhaps it is time your flip to the M section of your new book and look into your own megalomania
June 3rd, 2009 at 1:37 PM
Mr.,
Republican plans that would push debt obligations onto our children???? You mean like how Obama and the Democrats in Congress have racked up a larger deficit in one year than in the first seven years of the Bush administration combined?
If you want to complain about property taxes, talk to your mayor and city council members. If you live in St. Paul you can ask them to stop giving birth control to the piegons. If you live in Minneapolis, you can ask them to disband their civil rights commission which duplicates (and gets in the way of) the state civil rights commission’s work and to buy cheaper fountains. Why is it that cities can’t tighten their belts just like families and even state government?
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:42 PM
Megalomania (from the Greek word μεγαλομανία; megalo-, meaning large, and mania, mania) is a historical term for behavior characterized by delusional fantasies of wealth, power, genius, or omnipotence — often generally termed as delusions of grandeur or grandiose delusions. Megalomania denotes an obsession with, either in the form of irrational perceived need for, or preoccupation with one’s own estimation of having and/or obtaining, grandiosity and extravagance
From the above posts this defines Leroy to a “T”.
