WHO’S IN, WHO’S OUT

By Ryan Flynn | June 3, 2009

I have been working Capitol sources over the past 18 or so hours regarding the now highly watched game of maneuvering for candidates who may or may not be getting into the race for Governor.

This list is compiled from various sources in and around the Capitol and is in alphabetical order:

Former State Auditor Pat Anderson

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann

Representative Laura Brod

Representative Matt Dean

Representative Tom Emmer

Senator Michelle Fischbach

Former Senator Rod Grams

Senator David Hann

Representative Mary Kiffmeyer

Representative Paul Kohls

Former Representative Phil Krinkie

Senator Geoff Michel

Former Congressman Jim Ramstad

House Minority Leader Marty Seifert

Senate Minority Leader Dave Senjem

Brian Sullivan

Commissioner Steve Sviggum

Former Representative Charlie Weaver

As always, please continue to check back to Minnesota Democrats Exposed often for continuous updates.

Update: This list now appears in the Duluth News Tribune.

Considering the list…I’m surprised Mark Kennedy is not an option.

That’s very impressive list – especially when juxtaposed with the infamous reptiles and no-name recta among the DFL’s set of potential candidates.

I see very few scared democrats after reading that list this morning.

Marty Seifert stepping down as minority leader just to join the cattle call is funny, though.

Will Senjem be doing the same?

  4. Hiram Says:

For Marty Seifert, I don’t think being minority leader was proving to be a whole lot of fun.

  5. Hiram Says:

Will Senjem be doing the same?

Being minority leader in the senate is sort of like being a potted plant without the excitement. Where Sen. Senjem is concerned the question isn’t so much whether he will step down as it is whether anyone would notice if he did.

From the Pioneer Press’s blog Political Animal:

In an interview with Dave Lee this morning on WCCO, Charlie Weaver said he brought up a potential gubernatorial run with his kids on Tuesday night.

“My 9-year-old said ‘Dad, you’ll get crushed’,” he said.

I’m praying for the GOP to run Senator Geoff Michel. Then we can find out if his DFL opponent is “one of us”.

  8. chile Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 11:37 AM

Hiram, word has it that the potted plants in Lori Swanson’s office have had a significant uptick in excitement since she installed the $15,000 privacy doors.

If the potted plants are rockin’, don’t come a knockin’

Why isn’t Former Senator Coleman’s name not on the list?

I would vote for Norm again before any of others.

  10. Andrew Says:

Chile, how is your list of candidates any more well known then the DFL’s list of candidates. Ours features a former Senator, two big city mayors, and then the usual no-name groups of senators and representatives.

Your list features the riff-raff like ours and pretty much the only two notable names above that fray are Ramstad who would be tough to beat, and Bachmann who would get crushed by at least 60-40 if not worse.

Anderson is a statewide name for you but no one will know who she is anyway with such a low profile job and getting booted out of office.

Sorry, your list is not better and is probably a bit worse than the DFL’s, it’s mainly no-name state reps and senators who have zero statewide name rec. as of now. Any of them could be competitive but you are wrong in whose list is apparently better.

  11. chile Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 12:18 PM

Why isnt never-been Al Franken’s name not on the list of DFL candidates?

Franken would be the most liberal and ignorant DFL candidate. Ingorant liberals like danbrome need someone they can identify with.

  12. chile Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 12:32 PM

Andrew, do you have a learning disability? Maybe a friend can read it for you!

The “former Senator, two big city mayors” you refer to would be included under category A: Infamous Reptiles.

As far as Mark Dayton goes, he’d be better off if the voters forgot about his history in the Senate. He should focus on his strengths, i.e the fact that he is the silver-spoon heir of a department store mogul

  13. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 12:43 PM

Why would Al Franken quit the Senate to run for Governor?

  14. danbrome Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 2:26 PM

When I spoke to Senator-Elect Franken at the 3rd CD nominating convention, he spoke of his passion for justice. This was long before he knew that justice would prevail in the lost Coleman contest.

President Obama will be well served by Al’s commitment to serve, his passion for justice.

I look forward to offering my sincere congratulations to Senator Franken after the swearing in.

  15. Chris Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 2:32 PM

    hey brome,

When you see your buddy Al, are you going to bow or kiss his ring?

  16. danbrome Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 2:42 PM

    Chris..

Senator-Elect Franken is not my buddy. He is a passionate Democrat who is in a position to make a real difference for Minnesota. For that I am grateful.

  17. Chris Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 3:09 PM

    brome,

When you see Al are you going to bow or kiss his ring?

  18. danbrome Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 4:06 PM

I will shake his hand, and wish him well in his new endeavour.

  19. Chris Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 5:47 PM

Bow or kiss, brome? Which is it? You’re dodging the question.

  20. Andrew Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 6:04 PM

Chile, your posts are always filled with unwarranted insults. I dont see why that was necessary as I was pointing that your list of candidates is not better than ours, they lack any name recognition except for the two and lacks diversity as nearly all of them are no-name up and coming legislators no one has heard of outside of people like us.

While you did mention infamous reptiles, I chose to point out who they were and that they have better name recognition than any of your candidates. I dont see how that warrants me having a mental disability, which you shouldnt mock. What if I really did you asshole.

I just dont get why you are so angry and insulting to people. Nothing you post here has a shred of intelligence incorporated into it and you should really question why you post on this blog. If it’s just to get to be an asshole to those “libtards” than that’s pretty pathetic.

  21. Andrew Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 6:12 PM

Made a typo in that post, wups. Now you’ll just ridicule me for my sloppy English because no one makes typos.

  22. Joe R Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 9:34 PM

    “wups” is not a word.

Whoops: Used to express apology or mild surprise

  23. job10 Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 10:49 PM

Speaking of a pathetic waste of skin….wonder how Tommy is getting along these days.

  24. Proud Republican Says:
    June 3rd, 2009 at 11:44 PM

Wasn’t Perpich our last democrat governor? Wasn’t that something like the year 1992 or around abouts? 16 years without a dem Governor…. in this liberal state? man you dems are pathetic.

  25. Chris Says:
    June 4th, 2009 at 12:02 AM

Actually, Proud, it was 1990 when Perpich got shit-canned. And the DFL hasn’t been able to elect a governor since.

  26. Hiram Says:
    June 4th, 2009 at 7:38 AM

Why would Al Franken quit the Senate to run for Governor?

Actually, senators have been quitting the senate to run for governor lately. Corzine in New Jersey, Kay Bailey Hutchison in Texas. And one of the things that has amazed me about the Obama administration is the desperation many senators have displayed to get out of the senate.

I should note that no one takes seriously the possibility that Franken might run for governor, and that a lot of people take seriously the possibility than Norm might run for governor isn’t to Franken’s credit or Norm’s discredit.

  27. chile Says:
    June 4th, 2009 at 8:37 AM

Hey Tommy, you left Grunseth off your list. I think if Cal Ludeman man a run it might work, but why would he want to move the shithole that St. Paul has become under Chris Coleman?

  28. chile Says:
    June 4th, 2009 at 8:42 AM

Andrew, It is not society’s fault that you never learned to read.

I usually stay away from the term “libtard.” Mentally challenged Democrats, such as yourself, have earned the right to be called retarded liberals.

  29. AC Says:
    June 4th, 2009 at 8:53 AM

Chile, I find it terribly offensive that you called Andrew retarded. Foul.

  30. chile Says:
    June 4th, 2009 at 9:54 AM

I appologize AC, didn’t mean to leave you out.

    AC: Retarded Liberal

What about MN Chamber of Commerce director David Olson?
